Sony has announced a $100 million fund to help key people in the medical, education and entertainment industry affected by the global Covid-19 pandemic. As more and more people in the entertainment industry especially are affected with lost work and cancelled contracts, it’s commendable to see Sony rise to pledge this support. Of course, it’s not only creatives and entertainment industry professionals. Sony are committing to assist educators and medical professionals on the front line of this ongoing pandemic. Medical Response It will be giving $10 million to the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund for WHO powered by the UN Foundation and Swiss Philanthropy Foundation, also Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). This will assist front line medical workers and their response efforts to the virus. Sony is exploring ways to work with its partners to support activities that contribute to the treatment of the COVID-19 virus and the prevention of the further spread of the disease. Education Sony is exploring ways it can leverage its technologies to support education activities and cooperate with educators. School closures have affected children globally, and while remote learning is a solution, education opportunities are being lost.
