Here at IBC 2025, Johnnie spoke with Manny Moreno from SmallRig about their newest battery, the X221. It expands the company’s X-mount series with a 221Wh capacity, ruggedized design, and expanded connectivity aimed at filmmakers working in demanding environments. Ports, display, and app integration The SmallRig X221 includes two D-Tap connectors (one on each side), two USB-C ports rated at 140W in/out, dual barrel connectors, and a USB-A on top. A two-inch display provides status information, and the battery can also be monitored and controlled via Bluetooth or the SmallGoGo app. The app integration means you can now check battery health, cycles, and even locate a missing battery using a blinking LED function. Manny told us the dual USB-C ports now support both charging in and out at 140W each, a step up from earlier models.
