Sigma updates its mid-range telephoto macro lens. Sigma introduced the 105mm F2.8 EX DG OS HSM Macro in 2011, and when the price dropped by nearly $400 last month, you knew the next generation was waiting in the wings. In fact, all but one of Sigma's Macro lenses have dropped in price, so it might be a good time to scoop one up. Available in L-mount or E-mount, the new Sigma 105mm F2.8 DG DN Macro takes its place in the Art series, offering the same full-frame coverage but with improved optics designed for mirrorless cameras. For the uninitiated, DG denotes full-frame and DN stands for mirrorless. Optically, 17 elements are packed into 12 groups including a spherical low dispersion element (SLD) which reduces chromatic aberration, a phenomenon where the colors in the image come into focus differently along the edge. The rounded 9-blade aperture design is going to provide a pleasing bokeh similar to other Art lenses, and the F2.8 is fast enough for low light conditions when shooting video, especially when paired with the a7S III.
