SHIMBOL CM5 Monitor Explained – Monitoring and Control of Your Camera From One Device

At NAB 2024, Chinese manufacturer SHIMBOL introduced their newest product, the SHIMBOL CM5 Wired Camera Control Recording Monitor. This is a 5.5” touchscreen monitor, which also allows you to control certain functionalities of your camera such as white balance, shutter, focus, zoom, and more. Technical details The monitor has a Full HD resolution of 1920×1080 pixels, a contrast ratio of 1,200:1, and a brightness of 2,000 nits – making it useful even in daylight recording situations. According to the manufacturer, the device should work with most DSLR cameras on the market. It also features on-screen histograms and scopes to make sure you get the right exposure.  Setting the white balance via the SHIMBOL CM5 – Image credit: CineD It is powered either by NP-F batteries or a DC power adaptor.  Connections The SHIMBOL CM5 Wired Camera Control Recording Monitor has an HDMI port for the picture and a Mini-USB port for the controls. When plugging in the camera, the monitor will automatically recognize it and allow for control of the camera.
