CIPA (Camera & Imaging Products Association in Japan) published their latest camera production data (orange: 2025, black: 2024, blue: 2023): September 2025 CIPA numbers by ZoetMB (All comparisons to YTD 2024) Narrative: September 2025 CIPA has predicted 6.66m ILCs, 1.1.92m compacts and 10.56m lenses for calendar 2025, a modest increase over 2024. We’re currently projecting between 6.75m and 7.0m ILC units. That’s down from last month’s prediction. September 2025 shipments are up substantially from August and up from September 2024, except for DSLRs and full-frame lenses. For the first nine months of 2025, DSLR’s are down 26% in units and 31% in shipped value, Mirrorless units are up 13% in units and 4% in shipped value. Compacts are up 22% in units and 47% in shipped value, lenses for smaller than 35mm sensors are up 9% in units and 18% in shipped value, and lenses for 35mm and larger sensors are down 5% in units and down 7% in shipped value. The lens to body sales ratio has dropped to 1.51 compared to 1.58 a year ago. A list of participating CIPA companies can be found here.
