Ahead of IBC 2025, RED has just announced the new V-RAPTOR XE, where “E” stands for Essential. As the name suggests, it’s a stripped-down version of the original V-RAPTOR [X], but with half the frame rates and without Extended highlights and Phantom Track modes. This more affordable model is now available to pre-order in Nikon Z or Canon RF mount for just $14,995. Introduced back in January 2024, the V-RAPTOR [X] is RED’s ultimate powerhouse for high-resolution, high-frame rate capture. Indeed, it boasts a large-format, Vista Vision Global Shutter sensor capable of capturing 8K .R3D footage at up to 120 fps. Following the acquisition of RED, Nikon introduced Z mount versions of the V-RAPTOR [X] and KOMODO-X, integrating their versatile lens mount into RED’s ecosystem. Now, the Japanese company is making another move to appeal to cinematographers by making the V-RAPTOR platform even more accessible.
