Atomos is developing Apple ProRes RAW for the Sony Alpha 1. Atomos is giving creators a heads up that it will be tuning its Ninja V monitor-recorder to capture Apple ProRes RAW recording with the Sony Alpha 1 up to 4.3K 60p. The Alpha 1 will join several Sony camera models capable of recording ProRes RAW, including the a7s III, FX9, and FX6. Surprisingly, Atomos has yet to announce ProRes RAW plans for the FX3 even though it is capable of 16-bit RAW signal via its HDMI port. Chances are we'll most likely see that next. Sony's Alpha 1 is their latest full-frame mirrorless camera touting a 50.1MP Exmor RSTM CMOS sensor that oversamples 8.6K to record up to 8K 30p at 10-bit 4:2:0 in XAVC HS. With Atomos delivering up to 4.3K 60p, those wanting to shoot 8K RAW will have to wait or lean into the Canon EOS R5 or a number of higher-end cinema cameras like the Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro 12K, RED Monstro, or Panavision DXL2. The Alpha 1 may not be the go-to camera for many video shooters, so the luxury of 4K ProRes RAW should be plenty good for its target demographic. Read More...
