Piano White Versions of Laowa OOOM and Zero-D Cine Lenses for Red Komodo Released

Venus Optics announced the release of Piano White versions of their Laowa OOOM 25-100mm & Laowa 9mm Zero-D (RF Mount) cine lenses. These are optically the same lenses as Venus Optics’ widely successful, cine lenses that we covered a while back (here the OOOM 25-100mm) only with a new color option. The white Laowa OOOM 25-100 retails for $6,000, and the white Laowa 9mm Zero-D (RF mount) retails for $649. They are +$1,000, and +$50 over their black counterparts. Why Piano White? Why would anyone want to pay more for the exact same lens in a different color? Canon, Sony, and Nikon have been releasing lenses in white for decades. Typically a white lens like Canon’s 70-200mm IS III lives inside the bag of sports and nature shooters who spend the majority of their time outside. Since the white coating on the lens body reflects the majority of the light from the sun, it helps maintain a lower temperature. High heat can affect optical performance, and if it’s a real scorcher outside, the lens will remain cool to the touch.
