Panasonic LUMIX S 85mm F1.8 Prime Lens for L-Mount Launched & 50mm / 35mm / 24mm Due in Near Future

Panasonic has just launched the first of a set of four new fast prime lenses for L-mount cameras: The LUMIX S 85mm F1.8. The remaining three members of the family, 50mm / 35mm / 24mm (all share the same fast F1.8 aperture) are due in the “near future”. Furthermore, a LUMIX S 70-300mm F4.5-5.6 zoom is coming, too. This new line of LUMIX S prime lenses all share the same compact size, almost the same weight and same position of rings for easy lens swaps while filming with a gimbal, for example. Its inner lens design consists of 9 elements in 8 groups, including 2 ED (extra-low dispersion) lenses, which help controlling axial chromatic aberration. Image credit: Panasonic Furthermore, Panasonic claims that this lens (and the other upcoming lenses) minimize focus breathing, a traditional weak point of stills lenses when shooting video.
