Laowa 8-15mm f/2.8 FF Zoom Fisheye Now Available in GFX and XCD Mounts

Laowa has expanded their 8-15mm f/2.8 zoom fisheye to FUJIFILM GFX and Hasselblad XCD mounts. It’s the same small, ~650g (1.4 lb) lens with a constant f/2.8 aperture, now offering medium-format shooters a way to experiment with both circular and diagonal fisheye perspectives. At 8mm, you get the full circular image. Zoom in toward 15mm, and the frame fills for a wide, curved view that still carries that distinct fisheye character. Let’s have a look at this lens! Venus Optics, known for their Laowa lineup of creative optics, has been steadily expanding their catalog from the 10mm T2.9 Zero-D VV Cine in PL mount for high-end cinema cameras to the recent 12mm f/2.8 Lite Zero-D FF, a lighter take on their well-regarded wide-angle design for mirrorless systems. Laowa only recently introduced the 8-15mm f/2.8 FF Zoom Fisheye as a full-frame lens with the unique option to switch between circular and diagonal fisheye perspectives in a single zoom. Medium-format performance Mounted on FUJIFILM GFX or Hasselblad XCD cameras, the 8-15mm doesn’t fully cover the larger sensor. At 8mm, the lens delivers a full circular fisheye image, and by 15mm, the frame shifts to a cropped, wide-angle view that retains the distinctive curvature of a fisheye. Many medium-format shooters take advantage of the extra resolution to reframe their images from square and 4:3 formats to the cinematic 65:24 crop that’s popular for panoramic work.
