Laowa 12mm f/2.8 Lite Zero-D FF Lens Released – The Legend Returns for Mirrorless Systems

Venus Optics has released a new version of their ultra-wide 12mm lens designed for mirrorless cameras: the Laowa 12mm f/2.8 Lite Zero-D FF. It’s smaller and lighter than the original, supports autofocus on select mounts, has a standard 72mm front filter thread, and keeps the signature near-zero distortion design. With its 122° angle of view, it could be an interesting and creative option for filmmakers and still photographers working in tight spaces, as well as for architecture and real estate photography. Last month, Laowa introduced two 8-15mm fisheye lenses (one for filmmakers and the other for photographers and content creators) that are unusual because their optics offer both a circular and a rectangular image. With the introduction of Laowa’s new “Lite” 12mm, the company continues with their “Zero-D” (zero distortion) optical design, which corrects the barrel distortion typically seen in ultra-wide lenses. Straight lines remain straight, even at the edges of the frame, which is something that can make a real difference when shooting architecture, interiors, or any other subject where distortion would throw off the framing. Aperture options and sunstar styles The Laowa 12mm f/2.8 Lite Zero-D FF is available in both autofocus and manual focus versions, and the aperture design varies depending on the mount.
