'Jurassic' Director Gareth Edwards On How to Keep Dinosaurs Fresh

When it comes to franchises, the Jurassic one has spanned over thirty years, and continues going strong. But how do you keep audiences interested in dinosaurs when the initial magic of just seeing them on screen has sort of died off since the first movie? That's the challenge that director Gareth Edwards faced when he signed on for Jurassic World: Rebirth. In the movie, we pick up five years after the last film, where dinosaurs are now just on one island in the Pacific Ocean. According to Edwards, they used the current public perception of dinosaurs and the loss of magic for the story. - YouTube www.youtube.com Speaking to GamesRadar, director Gareth Edwards said, "There's been many dinosaur films in terms of [Jurassic Park movies], and the audience, you've got to do something new and fresh to give them a reason to come see the movie," he said. "And so by acknowledging that at the beginning and saying, 'Look, audiences aren't that interested in dinosaurs anymore,' I thought it was like, 'Okay, well, this is an honest beginning. Let's see where we go from here.'"That unique challenge brought up a great screenwriting and storytelling perspective. How can you bake all this sentiment in and still make a movie that's both thrilling and fun to watch?
