How These Three Directors Use Staging and Blocking to Tell a Story

Visual storytelling is one of the main reasons film exists, so why not use it to its full potential? There are almost infinite amounts of ways to tell a story. Each shot is an opportunity to tell that story with a richness that lies just below the surface. This subtext can be created by combining camera placement, movement, and the act of looking to show and tell the audience what they need to know. Although there are endless ways to tell a story, most directors default to standard coverage, making most movies look the same while saying very little.
