How do you handle your beginnings and endings? When you're tackling something new to write or direct, the first two scenes you think about (usually) are the opening and the ending. For me, if I don't know how an idea ends, I don't think I'll be able to sit down and write it. And when I sit down, I labor over the opening sequences, because I know it has to draw the audience into the world. Well, it turns out I am not alone. Everyone goes through this, and that includes Oscar-winning writer-director Damien Chazelle (director of Whiplash and La La Land).
