As we’ve covered in the past, the Mavis Camera app has proven to be one of the better iOS apps out there for those looking to upgrade the cinematic capabilities of their favorite Apple iPhone models—especially since the app has added support for the Atomos Ninja Phone and its expanded cinematic capabilities.However, things are getting kicked up another notch as a pretty significant update is here for the Mavis Camera app as it gets a new Film Kit that will add Open Gate capture and some more sophisticated custom LUT workflows.Here’s what you need to know.Mavis Camera Update and Film KitThe big news here is that Mavis Camera is getting a new, and optional, Film Kit upgrade that is available as an in-app purchase that will unlock new LUT workflows and Open Gate capture. This means iPhone shooters will have the ability to import custom LUTs and record and preview using said LUTs in-camera. This Film Kit upgrade will also include some built-in filter LUT options ranging from a Bleach Bypass to a Monochrome to a Vintage look, plus several others worth checking out and exploring how they look. For the Open Gate Capture, Mavis Camera will now provide two Open Gate modes, with one being tailored for Apple Log workflows and one for Rec.709 that should be able to capture 4K resolution (or higher).
