At IBC 2025, we took a first look at the all-new Godox KNOWLED MG4K lighting series. The series targets film and commercial productions with a combination of high light output and reduced weight, featuring both bi-color and full-color variants designed to match the brightness of traditional 4K HMI fixtures while maintaining portability. Founded in 1993 as a high-tech manufacturing facility specializing in lighting and audio equipment, Godox has now become a lighting equipment expert and innovator of gear for photographers, videographers, filmmakers, and more. The Chinese company has built its reputation on developing professional lighting solutions that push technological boundaries while remaining accessible to a broader range of users. According to Davi Valente from Godox, the light achieves the same output as a 4K HMI while maintaining what he describes as an “extremely compact” form factor. The series utilizes a 63mm COB (chip-on-board) design, which Davi identifies as the smallest in its class. This compact LED array enables crisp shadow definition and optimal performance when paired with Fresnel lenses and projection attachments. Both models (Bi-Color and full-color) operate with separate ballasts to improve weight distribution during setup. The full-color MG4KR variant incorporates additional electronics for color mixing capabilities, resulting in a slightly larger housing compared to the bi-color version. Godox KNOWLED MG4K.
