FUJIFILM issues a firmware update that will improve exposure consistency with its flagship normal zoom lens, the XF 16-55mm f/2.8 R LM WR. The update will also allow several cameras to sync timecode using the Atomos AirGlu accessory, UltraSync BLUE. The FT-XH file transmitter grip also gets an update to improve workflow with the new timecode sync functionality. FUJIFILM seems to be on a mission. Not so long ago, the Japanese manufacturer was mostly recognized for classic photography. FUJIFILM camera design was (and is, in some ways, still) rather nostalgic and reminiscent of film cameras of the seventies. But in the last few years, we have seen tectonic movement. The company’s shift towards hybrid cameras and motion capture is both swift and significant, encompassing both its APS-C (X) line and medium format (GFX). Video specs, resolution, frame, and bit rates – all are important when creating an excellent video camera, but FUJIFILM went the extra mile by implementing some very interesting capabilities. One of these is the Frame.io compatibility, enabling camera-to-cloud functionality in which the FT-XH transmitter grip for the X-H2S and X-H2 plays a key role. This recent firmware update enables the FT-XH transmitter grip to synchronize cameras by scanning a QR code using a connected tablet through the FUJIFILM Connect App. While the procedure isn’t the quickest, completing it will unlock some intriguing capabilities. There’s also an ability to split the display, showing live feeds of all cameras on set, as well as a “clean” screen. Additional info...
