The cinematographer-turned-inventor who transformed film lighting with his revolutionary Dedolight system passed away on November 30, 2025, in Munich. Dedo Weigert’s dual-lens focusing lights earned him two Academy Technical Awards, an Emmy, and fundamentally changed how cinematographers illuminate everything from Hollywood blockbusters to independent documentaries. Weigert died just weeks after celebrating his 87th birthday on November 5. His lights became essential tools on productions including Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings, and American Beauty, where cinematographer Conrad Hall individually lit every rose with a Dedolight.
