Canon Releases Its EOS Webcam Utility Beta for macOS

Mac users can now use Canon cameras as a webcam. On the heels of Fujifilm announcing its PC-only software that can turn compatible mirrorless cameras into a webcam, Canon has updated its EOS Webcam Utility Beta to be compatible with macOS. Last month, Canon released the Windows version of its EOS Webcam Utility Beta which turns compatible DSLR, mirrorless, and PowerShot cameras into a high quality webcam using a single USB cable. The same utility is now available for macOS users. The program works in the same fashion as the Windows version and requires a compatible Canon camera and a USB cable to connect it to a computer. Once the software is downloaded, and the camera is configured, Apple users will reap the same image quality benefits. However, there are some caveats. When using the software with macOS 10.14 (Mojave) or 10.15 (Catalina), it will not work with Safari, FaceTime, Skype, Zoom, or WebEx. In order for it to function properly with Skype, Zoom, and WebEx, you must use the web-based version in Google Chrome instead of the native application. A list of tips can be found here.
