Camera Intelligence Caira – CEO Vishal Kumar on the New AI iPhone Camera Attachment and Lessons from the Alice Camera

Camera Intelligence, formerly Alice Camera, has unveiled “Caira,” an AI-centric Micro Four Thirds camera attachment designed to magnetically connect to iPhones via MagSafe. The company plans to launch a Kickstarter campaign on October 30, and in an email interview with CineD, CEO Vishal Kumar discussed the rebrand, shared new technical insights, and addressed fulfillment concerns from early Alice Camera backers. Almost to the day five years after the original Alice Camera concept attempted to merge smartphone convenience with interchangeable-lens imaging (here’s a video interview with Vishal Kumar from back then), the London-based team is relaunching with sharper focus. Their new identity, Camera Intelligence, signals a long-term bet on integrating artificial intelligence directly into camera operation and creative workflows. It might also have helped with securing more funding in the current AI-craze (more on that below). The upcoming Caira camera is the first product under that brand. From Alice Camera to Camera Intelligence Alice Camera began as an ambitious 2020 prototype that turned smartphones into hybrid mirrorless cameras using a Micro Four Thirds sensor and mount. The concept, which debuted on Indiegogo in early 2021, drew global attention but also criticism after delays stretched into several years.
