ARRI recently unveiled the Operator Set for ALEXA 35, a camera support system designed to improve ergonomics and functionality for those who frequently switch between handheld operation on the shoulder and tripod shooting. At the core of this new system is the Touchdown baseplate, which ARRI designed to be faster and more secure than the VCT-14. Let’s have a look! The Operator Set is ARRI’s third support system designed for the ALEXA 35, following the Production Set and the Lightweight Set, which cater to traditional on-set and super lightweight applications, respectively. ARRI developed the Operator Set after evaluating their expansion into the live entertainment shooting sector, coupled with discussions with their client NFL Films. NFL Films had requested a system that would facilitate a smooth transition from the AMIRA, which they had been using, to the more advanced ALEXA 35. The result is the Operator Set, which incorporates a new design in the tripod mounting system. The Touchdown tripod mount The Touchdown system from ARRI consists of the TBP-1 baseplate and the TRP-1 receiver plate. According to ARRI, this quick tripod mounting system offers faster and more secure mounting compared to the traditional VCT-14, significantly reducing any wiggle or play. The Touchdown Base Plate.
