A dream for the future Nikon Z camera: a dynamic white-balance sensor that measures color temperature independently in the different parts of the image

Stoph Sauter (Instagram | Tumblr | Tumblr 2) shares his idea and hope for a dynamic white-balance sensor that measures color temperature independently (dynamic white-balance in one shot – for multiple sections of the images, just like AF): Dreams for a Z11 A DYNAMIC WHITE BALANCE SENSOR For sections on a single chip, or a step closer to reality. After many years of using analog and digital cameras, there still remains a missing link in the digital advanced camera technology. A Matrix-White-Balance implementation. Today we are able to shoot 30 frames/sec, having highspeed AF modes, good workflows, etc. all fine. But by the end of the day still light rules the colors of an image. Exactly there is a big problem remaining, cause all cameras on the market manage „WHITE BALANCE“ as a single setting, a mixture out of all is the result, changeable, but fixed Kelvins. Often there are situations with daylight and artificial light, LED bulbs for example and a sunset in one single moment. Or – artificial light mixed with daylight reaching the sensor with different Kelvins. The White Balance only makes a mixture out of all – so we can`t capture images as our eyes do. Eyes (retinas) can handle different Kelvins on one level. The human matrix can manage it. Lightsituation – Daylight and artificial light The idea of a DYNAMIC WHITE BALANCE SENSOR would give the opportunity to measure different lighting situations on the sensor independently. Maybe like another layer we used to...
