Uni-struit alternatives
  • Hello everyone. I'm looking for a (cheaper) alternative of the CPM unistrut. Also I'm not feeling too confident with the carbon fiber fabric, I'd prefer aluminum.

    Unistrut

I know Skier makes the O ring, but it's expansive as hell.

Any ideas guys? Thanks a lot!

    Why you need exactly this?

You can just get two C brackets. They are very common on ebay.

  • I just want a top handle which has to be close from my dslr. I'm concerned about the balance of a C bracket. A single one would be perfect for what I need, but yeah, I'm not sure if you can get the camera parallel to the floor, can you? It must lean, mustn't it?

    Skier looks quite perfectly balanced.

  • Typically you can adjust the position of the top handle so that it will hang/balance well.

I have an older Gini-Rig Extreme 17 and I use the large L-brackets to make a C-bracket. The style of Top handle I have is different from what they currently show and it allows me to get it just right.

  • @Vitaliy, the item can't be displayed in my country :(

@jpbturbo, interesting, would you have a picture? Even better, would you have a pic showing a good balance ^^

Thanks to the both of you

  • @Xsjado

Here is a pic I just snapped of my rig, minus the shoulder pad and the front hand grips. I threw my old Chinon on there just for illustration purposes. The top handle is mounted via a pretty standard two hole offset clamp. The current version of this rig(gini rig extreme 17) seems to come with a different top handle. gini rig balancing act

  • Thank you jpbturbo. I came up with an idea similar to Vitaly's. I would use 2 L brackets to recreate the O ring shape of the Skier rig.

Do you think I can find them cheaper than here: http://www.ebay.fr/itm/Pro-L-Shape15mm-Supporting-Arm-Rod-to-make-C-shape-Cage-Rig-for-DSLR-MatteBox-FF-/130823489705?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item1e75b008a9#ht_4765wt_1220

    ?

Also, can you recommend me a nice and cheap baseplate+rods?

    Thank you guys!
