Lav Mic: Audio Technica ATR35s - noisy on GH2?

    I connected my audio technica atr35s to my hacked Gh2 - 3.5 stereo to 2.5mm stereo adaptor, but the audio is terrible. Very low and lots of hiss. I've boosted the gain via the camera but still no joy. This mic is powered by a button cell battery with a new battery. It's only a $30 mic but I've used it with good results on other cameras before - works better on my HS700 panny.

    Any ideas and can you suggest a cheapish lav mic that will work on the GH2 (hacked) that sound OK and can be directly plugged into the 2.5mm mic jack.

    i believe its the audio gain in the gh2 that is the culprit.
