4K AltaSens sensor
  • AltaSens, Inc., a leading pioneer in high-resolution CMOS imaging system-on-chip (iSoC) sensors at HD format, introduced its first 4K camera module for commercial sale: the 4K Pro RGB. The state-of-art camera module generates 4K through HD video at multiple optical formats and frame rates. The high-end module can be used for broadcast, movie and TV production, scientific instruments, medical imaging, and UAVs to record video and capture stills.

AltaSens will showcase the 4K Pro RGB at the NAB (National Association of Broadcasters) Show in Las Vegas, Nevada, from April 7 to 10 in booth C12033.

"We are pleased to offer this sophisticated solution to demanding imaging customers in need of a versatile turnkey camera module," explained Jake Onodera, Executive Vice President. "It is also a superb pathfinder unit for our OEM camera partners using the new AL41410C image sensor."

Lester Kozlowski, AltaSens Founder and CEO, further explained, "This module represents the imminent merging of advanced camera and sensor technology to deliver, without compromise, superior image quality regardless of format or frame rate. We thank JVC Kenwood for enabling this paradigm shift sooner, rather than later."

Camera module features include the following:

    • Turnkey VGA-to-UHD camera engine with up to 13.5 Mpixel image capture
    • Advanced imaging signal processor for on-the-fly format changes with seamless image quality management, including various SNR-enhancing binning modes
    • 4K video mode at 60 fps; full HD video mode at 240 fps
    • Video saves directly to SD card or directly output via HDMI 2.0
    • Still photo capture to SD card

The 4K Pro RGB engine is powered by the combination of the AltaSens AL41410C sensor with advanced JVC KENWOOD imaging-signal processor to deliver HD through 4K and beyond, at multiple frame rates.

The AL41410C is our next generation Super-35 size image sensor. Its ability to generate 4096 x 2160 format images makes the AL41410C an extremely attractive sensor for producing 4K cinema in the latest Ultra HD (UHD) cameras. Operating the sensor at a 3840 x 2160 resolution is ideal for UHD video. Alternatively, the 1920 x 1080 HD format at 240 fps is best for sports broadcast or special effects support where clear slow motion playback is vital. Its native 4512 x 3008 resolution is operable to 50 fps.

The AL41410C is also available in the AltaSens 4K Pro Night-Vision, a new 4K low-light monochrome camera module. The 4K Pro Color Night-Vision camera module will be available in late 2014.
