Sony: More movie business layoffs coming
  • The solution from Sony is to cut $250 million out of its entertainment budget, while trimming down the number of releases from the typical 23 per year to a leaner 18. According to the LA Times, a further $100 million in cuts are expected to be identified by a consulting firm Sony has engaged to assess its studio operations.

  • Honestly I have no clue how movies continue such high profit; I've seen maybe 5 new movies over the past year or so, and was not impressed with any of them... guess i'm growing old

  • Sony has offered early retirement to workers at five factories across Japan – including one that makes cameras – as part of a move to cut costs.

The plants are run by Sony EMCS, a Sony Corporation subsidiary, and reportedly employ around 5,000 staff.

The Sony factory at Kohda, in the Aichi Prefecture, makes cameras - reported to be Cyber-shot compacts, as well as camera modules.

The Kohda plant is also understood to manufacture interchangeable lenses following the closure of a Sony EMCS site at Minokamo in the Gifu Prefecture that was announced in 2012.

  • @robertGL, I don't see how age has anything to do with enjoying good art. Might I suggest that you're watching the wrong films? I just watched a documentary called "The Devil and Daniel Johnston" and found it to be extremely worthwhile.
