Field monitor using tablet and HDMI to wifi transmitter
  • I am looking around the possibility to use a tablet and a HDMI to wifi transmitter as a field monitor. The idea is the "HDMI to wifi transmitter" send wireless the video signal (working as a video server) and use the wifi funtionality of the tablet to receive the video. This could be used as a field monitor, probably not for video but good for photography, as you will have a good quality and large resolution display.

I appreciatte any help in this search.

  • @Chenel expensive, but great stuff. /www.teradek.com

  • If a small HDMI2Wifi transmitter existed, that would be cool.

Have you thought about using an analog transmitter+receiver+monitor? You would not have FullHD but they can be had and are small and relatively inexpensive.

  • something like this http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/449369005/WHDI_stick_wireless_hdmi_transmitter_and.html keep in mind that gh3 will very possibly have wifi and all this expensive stuff wont be needed!

  • Usual WLAN is not very well suited for this task as you will need to fight hard to get low latency. Bandwith is to low as well.

At work we use this one to get cam signal live onto big screen so our customers can see what´s going on: http://www.cyberport.de/?DEEP=5899-12P&APID=204

You could then get a tablet with USB3 and add a BlackMagic Intensity Shuttle to it.

  • Digging this up again. If we dont care about really low latency, does someone know of a cheap option out there? It seems it would be cheaper and have a greater range to use WiFi. Of course, the device should have an H.264 encoder or similar onboard, as Bandwidth and Tablet Capability would not be enough otherwise..
