Xeon W-3375X 665W TDP processor, meet new reality!
  • image

    • 14nm
    • 56 cores, 112 thread
    • 5,1Ghz
    • TDP at 665W (real consumption can be more!)

This will be common reality of workstation level processors in 2-3 years.

64 core 7nm Threadripper real peak consumption will be also around 500-600 watts (despite 280 W TDP). 32 core model peaks at 450-470 watts already.

  • dear Vitaliy_Kiselev Ryzen 3000 has some TDP and limit PPT is higher (similarly intel´s PL1=TDP and PL2 is always higher), that is true - and thats why CPU with some TDP has bigger power consumption in full load than TDP says

BUT !!! TR3 3960X/3970X has TDP 280W which is also PPT limit, so you can load 32C64T totally full (also using all-core boost), and its real power consumption is only 285 W !!! checked with watt-meter plugged into the power socket

"32 core model peaks at 450-470 watts already" - did you measure that? or you just disorient all the readers

yes, the situation can be different with TR3 3990X 64C128T ultra-brutal beast, because 280W real power consumption for this monster is "too good to be true", but there are several factors that needs to be considered: the frequencies can be lower, so the real power consumption wont be so big - and if so, probably it will not be 600W like you predict and lets say "only" 400W ... and even if so ... the performacne is 30% better that 56C112T intel´s dual CPU desperate peace of hardware

Lot of people measured this (see Threadripper topic). Your consumption stays around TDP due to setting in BIOS limiting power stage maximum power.
