Moving to Stockholm

    Hej.

    I'll be moving to stockholm next month with my family. I lived there in the 90s. I could use some advice in the following areas:

    1) where do you get camera gear? - what are the best stores in town - what happens when you buy something from amazon or bh? I assume you get hit with the 25% mums tax but what else?

    2) Where are the best places to connect with people who make short films? Students are fine but where else?

    I'm not a film professional but want to do small budget high-quality shorts.

    Thanks for any thoughts/

    I live in Sweden but not in Stockholm.

    1) Besides the 25 % moms tax you may also need to pay customs when bying from outside EU but some people take a chance that the custom will not search their packages and then they might not have to pay the customs or the moms (hint try make someone write GIFT free of charge on the package). But within the European Union you do not need to pay customs. I buy some stuff from amazon.co.uk and does not have to pay anything more than the price listed.

    For Swedish shops on internet you can find lowest prices by searching the price indexing site http://www.prisjakt.nu/

    2) Maybe you can find some short film creators on http://www.voodoofilm.org/

Yes you get hit by the 25% moms nothing more appart from shipping costs. http://www.cyberphoto.se - often good prices http://www.scandinavianphoto.se - you can by on internet and pick up in their store in Stockholm http://www.japanphoto.se - they also have store in Stockholm http://www.fotokungen.com - store in Stockholm

    There are some professional organisations, out of which some I guess are out of the question.. However, there are also support organizations for film in each region so I suggest you get to know the Stockholm branch. If you have ideas for shorts you can run it through them and get all kinds of support. Through them you should also be able to find the kind of events where you can get to meet people you might want to work with. There are some local Photo Stores in Stockholm that boast having some film equipment (you might occasionally find used cine lenses for instance), but I have sort of dismissed them as any "Filmer's haven".

    http://www.ljud-bildmedia.se/ and http://www.dagsljus.com/ are rental houses.. there are other than those and if you're interested I could ask around to see what might be interesting for you.

    (I do not live in Stockholm).

    I do live in Stockholm! Most people have covered most of it, but the place I often buy things from are Scandinavian Photo. Not always the cheapeast, but for most smaller gear they tend to be among the ones in Sweden and the service is very good.

    I'm also a GH2 user, with a mini-cine version basically with Lomo primes. I own a lot of gear (and rent it out too), so if you need any help, tips or rental, send me a PM!
