Panasonic http://www.personal-view.com/talks/categories/panasonic-cameras/p5/feed.rss Sat, 11 May 24 15:46:29 +0000 Panasonic en-CA GH5 always making new folders...bug? http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/21094/gh5-always-making-new-folders...bug Mon, 10 Dec 2018 13:38:58 +0000 htinla 21094@/talks/discussions I recently obtained a GH5 and I've noticed that it keeps making new folders whenever I power down the camera. Hence, a folder may have just a few image/video files when another folder is created automatically. A search on the net has shown that others have experienced this too. However, I haven't been able to find a remedy, that is, if one even exists. My camera has firmware v2.4 and I format my SD cards in-camera. Has anyone here noticed this behavior too? If so, have you found a fix?

Panasonic FZ80 with 4K recording http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/16268/panasonic-fz80-with-4k-recording Tue, 03 Jan 2017 21:41:17 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 16268@/talks/discussions image

Specs

PR

Panasonic has today announced the new LUMIX FZ80 from the popular FZ series that packs a powerful optical zoom and superior controllability, including manual operation over photo and video recording. The LUMIX FZ80 features the exceptionally-versatile LUMIX DC VARIO 20mm ultra wide-angle lens with a 60x optical zoom (35mm camera equivalent: 20-1200mm), which makes it possible to capture dynamic landscapes, wild animals and birds from a distance.

The newly integrated 18.1-megapixel High Sensitivity MOS Sensor and advanced image processor Venus Engine also achieve high-speed response and high-quality images even in high-sensitivity recording.

For an even faster response and higher mobility, the LUMIX FZ80 boasts a high-speed, high-precision AF with DFD (Depth From Defocus) technology[1], which shortens the focusing time. It calculates the distance to the subject by evaluating two images with different sharpness levels at a high 240-fps signal exchange speed. As a result, the LUMIX FZ80 achieves an AF of approximately 0.09 sec[2]. This benefit increases as the focal length grows.

The LUMIX FZ80 also offers high-speed burst shooting at 10-fps (AFS) / 6-fps (AFC) to capture fast-moving subjects in crisp focus. Thanks to the touch-control system, users can quickly focus right on the subject and even release the shutter with touch operation to capture fleeting photo opportunities.

The LUMIX FZ80 records smooth, high-resolution QFHD 4K videos in 3840x2160 resolution at 30p. The powerful 60x optical zoom and POWER O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) with Active Mode suppresses blurring, even in video recording. Taking advantage of 4K technology, users can enjoy 4K PHOTO shots and a variety of derivative functions, such as the new Focus Stacking, Post Focus, Light Composition, and 4K Live Cropping. For more creative freedom, Creative Control and Creative Panorama options are available.

The LUMIX FZ80 also integrates a 1,040K-dot rear monitor with touch-control system. Together with the 0.2-inch 1,170K-dot EVF (Electronic View Finder), users can capture subjects in clear focus. It also includes Wi-Fi® connectivity to offer a more flexible shooting experience and instant image-sharing with easy operation. With hot shoe and compatibility with a variety of optional accessories, the LUMIX FZ80 goes beyond a standard telephoto zoom compact camera while providing high-quality photos and an exceptional 4K video recording experience.

Mitigate distances with a powerful 60x optical zoom lens

The LUMIX FZ80 features the stunningly versatile LUMIX DC VARIO 20mm ultra wide-angle lens with a 60x optical zoom - both as photos and video footage. The 20mm ultra wide-angle lens captures an approx. 140% wider angle of view compared with a 24mm angle of view. The POWER O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) with Active Mode effectively suppresses hand-shake vibration both in photo and video recording.

The Intelligent Zoom is included with the LUMIX FZ80, which extends the zoom ratio up to 120x equivalent, maintaining high picture quality even when combining a digital zoom.

Capture unmissable moments with high-speed response, 4K PHOTO and 4K video

The 18.1-megapixel High Sensitivity MOS Sensor is newly-integrated into the LUMIX FZ80. Together with the high-performance image processing LSI Venus Engine, it elevates the response, sensitivity and image quality to an even higher level. Incorporating high-speed digital signal output technology, the FZ80 shoots 10 (AFS) / 6 (AFC) fps in 18.1-megapixel full resolution with a mechanical shutter.

Taking advantage of 4K technology, users can enjoy 4K PHOTO shots with the LUMIX FZ80. 4K PHOTO lets the user capture fleeting photo opportunities at 30 fps by extracting the best frame from a 4K burst file to save as a photo. Plus, multiple images can be automatically saved as 4K PHOTO shoots all at once. A maximum of 150 frames in five seconds can be saved following a designated frame.

It also comes with the Post Focus function, which enables users to select the in-focus area even after shooting. This is helpful especially in macro shooting where strict focusing is required or for changing expressions by changing the focused subject. This function has been developed by combining the high-speed, high-precision DFD (Depth From Defocus) auto focus technology with 4K technology. Both Post Focus and Focus Stacking can be activated quickly with the dedicated button on the top panel.

The LUMIX FZ80 also records stunningly smooth, high-resolution QFHD 4K videos in 3840x2160 resolution at 30p in addition to Full-HD 1920x1080 videos at 60p in AVCHD Progressive or MP4 (MPEG-4 / H.264) format with practical full-time AF.

The LUMIX FZ80 enables 4K Live Cropping in video recording to achieve stable panning or zooming in video recording. Thanks to its digital operation, panning and zooming images are smooth because it does not physically move the zoom lens.

A variety of video recording options are also available for users to choose from - High Speed Video, Time Lapse and Stop Motion Animation. High Speed Video records subjects in fast motion at 120fps.

Take amazing images and video even under strong sunlight

Equipped with a static-type touch-control system, the 3-inch rear screen with 1040K-dot high resolution features an approximately 100% field of view. The touch-control system lets the user immediately focus on a subject and even release the shutter by simply touching the screen.

The LUMIX FZ80 also has a 0.2-inch LVF (Live View Finder) with a magnification ratio of approx. 2.59x / 0.46x (35mm camera equivalent in 4:3) in 1170K-dot equivalent high resolution, 100% field of view. Thanks to the high 60-fps frame rate, image lag is also minimized making it suitable for shooting fast-moving subjects under strong sunlight.

Full manual control is available with LUMIX FZ80 to enjoy more creative photography. The design of the grip has also been re-engineered for stable holding during extended shooting.

Other Features

Easy Wireless Connectivity via Wi-Fi® with Smartphones
The LUMIX FZ80 integrates Wi-Fi® connectivity (IEEE 802.11 b/g/n) to provide a more flexible shooting experience and instant image sharing with easy operation. Once the camera and a smartphone or tablet are connected, installing Panasonic's dedicated application, Panasonic Image App for iOS / Android, users can shoot, browse and share images remotely. Users can also upload images to a variety of social media services right on the spot.

AC/USB Power Charging
The camera’s battery can be recharged either via AC or USB based on the users’ preference.

The FZ80 will have a black body and will be available in March for $399.99.

Back on L mount thing - it was planned to be only Panasonic-Leica alliance http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/20576/back-on-l-mount-thing-it-was-planned-to-be-only-panasonic-leica-alliance Sun, 30 Sep 2018 14:53:03 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 20576@/talks/discussions Note the alliance logo

and now look at the L mount logo present in all videos

It is some small talks that no alliance existed at all very short prior Photokina.

Panasonic had been rushing to make mockups since around April-May as they got proper intel where things are going.

They used Leica mount only to save time to make mockups and test some things, actually. No any deep decisions behind it.

Original plan had been to announce P-L alliance. Marketing ploy, as it was not an alliance at all actually.
Besides mount (made by Panasonic engineers before) Leica won't contribute anything to the real mass market system products at all.

Sigma joined in very last moments as their management saw great opportunity to sell same Art lenses with around 30-40% higher prices compared to E mount.

  • Rise the price, match margin on G series up to GH standards
  • Reuse some GH designs, like sensors and LSI
  • Cheapen body construction, controls and buttons
  • Keep low resolution cheap screens and cheap EVF
  • Sensor stabilization will be present, but is planned to be cheaper in production.
  • Make battery more protected, smaller and rise the price on it (GH2 new batteries are first sign)

the camera needs to stay on ready , as typically the gh5 can only wake up via a physical 1/2 press of the shutter butter.

someone in the uk does it but they charge £300 which to be fair might be worth it depending on work involved but i cannot afford it and wondered if its simple or hard todo ?

One of our trusted sources confirmed the Zeiss camera teaser is a real deal. The camera will be announced in the midst of the ongoing Photokina show on September 27. Smart move to avoid all the press buzz that will go one before the Photokina show.

The source told me Zeiss intention with this camera is to show the full potential of their lens design. They couldn’t achieve the same goal by making a “normal” E-mount camera. The new lens is 100% optimized for this fixed lens camera.

Help! My GH3 won't turn on anymore... http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/12353/help-my-gh3-wont-turn-on-anymore... Tue, 10 Feb 2015 05:10:50 +0000 Stab 12353@/talks/discussions Hi guys,

My GH3 won't turn on anymore. I have 3 batteries and I've used all of them. When I press the on/off switch nothing happens. No light comes on, just 'dead'. I've also tried removing the lens and SD card but makes no difference.

I bought i a little over 2 years ago so I guess waranty is out of the question.

Any thoughts, solutions that I could try myself? And an important bonus question: Could this have been caused by inserting a cheaper off-brand (OTB) battery? This never happened before and it seems to have happened after I first inserted a replacement battery. It has the same 'name' (DMW-BLF19E) as the original batteries but uses 7.4v instead of 7.2v and 11.84Wh instead of 14Wh...

Could that have fried the insides of the camera? Otherwise it would have just happened out of nowhere...

Thanks!

GH3 Multiple Exposure - An opportunity missed http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5775/gh3-multiple-exposure-an-opportunity-missed Mon, 14 Jan 2013 06:40:11 +0000 andy4nothin 5775@/talks/discussions The multi exposure feature of the GH3 is causing me some grief at the moment. The manual suggests that you can take a RAW image on the card and use it as the starting point for a multiple exposure when using the 'overlay' setting, but I just get a 'Cannot merge using this photo' message. If you start a multi exp with overlay off and exit after the first shot, then this image can be used with the overlay setting, but will not write to the card at the end of the sequence, requiring the camera to be turned off and on again to clear.

I thought this worked okay when I first tried it, but I've had no joy since. Anyone else experienced this problem?

I don't actually want to create a multi exp, I simply want to use the overlay to align individual shots to create tracking movements of larger objects like buildings. This is where I think Panasonic missed an opportunity, with what would make a useful creative feature.

If there was an onion skinning preview that just engaged an overlay with the previously taken shot, it would open up some really interesting opportunities.

GH3 Best Video Settings http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/7091/gh3-best-video-settings Tue, 28 May 2013 18:13:57 +0000 maddog15 7091@/talks/discussions Bought a GH3 just over a week ago. So far extremely happy with it on many levels. Have an interview job coming up so I did a multi cam test with my GH2 (Moon T5 loaded) and my new GH3 (Highest setting - MOV 1080p 24, @ 72Mb/s, All Intra). GH3 as camera A - front, GH2 as camera B - profile. When I synced the two vids in Premiere Pro for a multi cam edit... things were...different. Long and short of it.... the GH2 with Moon T5 kicked the GH3's butt hands down in low light.

In a nutshell the GH3 produced much more noise than I expected. And an overall lower quality image vs the GH2 under the same shooting conditions. (Both cameras shooting with the same f-stop, S-speed and ISO)

It was recommende3d by @robbin that I try the 50Mb/s IPB setting. I did so but still don't see much improvement or change in the noise with lower light. Was shooting at ISO 400 so I should be fairly safe right? Per many other professional shooters I have Sharpness at -5, Contrast -5, Saturation -2. Noise Reduction at 0 as -5 allows too much noise and +5 seems to muddy or soften the image as a whole to me.

Any feedback is welcome on best video settings for GH3

Panasonic is introducing a second advanced compact camera, the FZ2500. This camera utilizes the same 20.1MP 1" MOS sensor as the LX10, but optimizes video performance with the inclusion of DCI 4K video recording and a true 24 fps frame rate, in addition to more conventional UHD 4K and Full HD recording modes. Also benefitting videographers, this camera includes Panasonic's CINELIKE D and CINELIKE V picture profiles for better grading capabilities, and V-Log L can be added via an optional upgrade. Additionally, high bit rate recording up to 200 Mbps is supported in both MP4 and MOV formats; video can be output over HDMI with a 4:2:2 10-bit signal; there is no recording duration limit; and a built-in ND filter can be used for enhanced control over exposure settings while recording.

More than just a video-optimized camera, however, the FZ2500 also sports a slew of specs for stills and movie users, such as a 50 fps continuous shooting rate with an electronic shutter, or 12 fps with a mechanical shutter, and an expanded sensitivity range of up to ISO 25600 for working in dim light. The built-in 20x Leica DC Vario-Elmarit f/2.8-4.5 lens covers a 24-480mm equivalent focal-length range, and 5-axis HYBRID O.I.S.+ controls the effects of camera shake for sharper handheld shooting. A free-angle 3.0" 1.04m-dot LCD touchscreen permits intuitive control and viewing ease from a variety of working positions, and a 2.36m-dot electronic viewfinder is also available. Additionally, built-in Wi-Fi also supports wireless image sharing and remote camera control.

    The Big Question: G9 or GH5 or GH5S ? http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/19597/the-big-question-g9-or-gh5-or-gh5s- Sun, 29 Apr 2018 15:18:11 +0000 apefos 19597@/talks/discussions 4k 24p 25p 30p 50p 60p in M43 cameras, but which one is best for me?

If you know how to recover the 110 ire video to turn it into 100 ire, you will not need V-Log to recover highlights, so the G9 will be enough for you. You can live without a Gimbal because IBIS + OIS can be good enough. You will need a fast computer to run NeatVideo denoise because anything above iso 400 will have lots of noise.

If you like these new video features like V-Log, HDR, HLG, 10 bit, 422, so go for the GH5... (I do not need this, so G9 with good grading is ok for me)

G7, G85, G9, GH5, all have lots of noise in any iso above 400, so NeatVideo is a must to deliver a good quality 4k image.

In a quad core @4.4GHZ + GTX650Ti I can get only 1 or 1.5 fps in NeatVideo 4K render, very slow. NeatVideo forum says a six/eight core pc with 1080ti will deliver 4 or 6 fps 4k render depending on radius amount. I think even a 18 core i9 with two 1080Ti will not be real time with NeatVideo...

Considering the Dual ISO feature in GH5S will not need NeatVideo even in high ISO, so it will be much better to buy a more expensive camera (GH5S) and a good Gimbal and avoid buying expensive computer for NeatVideo and avoid slow render time.

For me GH5S is the best at this moment (if you do not have money for EVA1 which I consider my dream camera now).

GH5 with field monitor http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/19522/gh5-with-field-monitor- Sun, 22 Apr 2018 14:02:33 +0000 wordsofpeace 19522@/talks/discussions Just bought a field monitor and I’ve noticed that when plugged into the HDMI port, Audio monitoring is only Rec Sound, Real-time is greyed out. Is this normal, correct? I’m using an outboard mic and headphones socket on the camera.

GH5S VFR mode BUG! http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/19449/gh5s-vfr-mode-bug Sat, 14 Apr 2018 16:32:58 +0000 nobbystylus 19449@/talks/discussions On the GH5S In VFR mode (in HD) 60fps is pretty clean in all picture profiles when exposed ok. If you then lift to 62FPS or higher, suddenly there is extremely strong horizontal lines buzzing away in the shadows. This is viewable when you shoot on the LCD monitor as well as on the clip in playback. It is NOT a codec issue (ie not enough bit rate) the lines are like analog horitontal lines, and it is not a 'noise' issue, as its a very specific HORIZONTAL wiggling pattern which appears. This is in all picture profiles but obviously more noticeable in V-LOG. What's going on? Fixed pattern noise?

Field Monitors for GH5 that support the 4k 48fps DCI http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/19271/field-monitors-for-gh5-that-support-the-4k-48fps-dci Mon, 26 Mar 2018 23:06:56 +0000 thpluto 19271@/talks/discussions Hey guys, long time no see.

I was curious if anyone knew of any field monitors at 5" or 7" (beside ATOMOS) that support the GH5 outputting 4k DCI at 48FPS? I don't need an external recorder, just trying to make it a little easier in grabbing focus faster as I run around with a gimbal and manual lenses.

    Thanks

    Lanparte extension arm for short EVA1 control grip http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/19272/lanparte-extension-arm-for-short-eva1-control-grip Tue, 27 Mar 2018 00:58:45 +0000 lanparte 19272@/talks/discussions

The original control grip on the Panasonic AU-EVA1 camcorder seems too short. Particularly, when cameraman shoots with it on a shoulder rig, it's not comfortable. That's the reason we design this extension arm for AU-EVA1, the cameraman doesn't even need to remove the original screws from the camera body.

There is an AU-EVA control grip adaptor on the extension arm, just rotate the original control grip into it. On another end, there is a standard ARRI style rosette teeth adaptor with M6 screw on it, it's easy to connect to any base with the ARRI style adaptor. Besides that, we add a built-in control cable inside the arm.

The cameraman can plug the original 3 pin control cable into the built-in port and plug another 3 pin signal jack into the "REMOTE" port on the camera body, use it as the original. Open the knob to adjust the length of the extension arm to get best holding position cameraman wants. It's the must need gear for shooting with Panasonic AU-EVA1.

Check this link to see more details of this arm.
