I'm new to this forum and recently purchased a few Panasonic GH2s and patched them with Sanity X hack with plans to use them to film small concerts. One of the three that I purchased has an interesting issue where the mode dial at the top of the camera seems to be fixed in Auto mode and doesn't seem to change to other modes except for Progressive. The letter on the bottom left side of the LCD displays A mode and only changes to P when I move the mode dial to P. The camera does not seem to switch over to Movie mode or AI or any of the other modes when I turn the dial at the top of the camera. This particular issues was already present before the installation of the Sanity X hack and the issue continues to persist. I would like to use this camera for it's manual video mode in Cinema 24p and would like to know if there is a solution for this issue.

I have a quick video of both my cameras. The first camera is the one with the issue and I have followed by another GH2 which is functioning reliably and well with the Sanity X hack patched in. [

]

Ideas and/or suggestions on what I could try would be appreciated.

A big thanks to those who have placed so much effort into creating hacks for the gh2. I hope to explore the true value of a hacked GH2 as I navigate my way around this site.

Lumix GH5 get filename syntax http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/23773/lumix-gh5-get-filename-syntax Thu, 16 Apr 2020 23:13:57 +0000 HarveyMushman 23773@/talks/discussions I'm trying to develop a simple capture tool that needs to know the filename of the last picture captured. I'm hoping there is a simple HTTP command that can be issued to return the last photo number. The ideal solution would return Folder and FileNumber after issuing HTTP:///cam.cgi?mode=camcmd&value=capture. I'm think a second command would return the desired value as an XML result from the camera.

Any direction where to find the answer would be greatly appreciated.

Used GH2, sensor streaking or flaring http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/23748/used-gh2-sensor-streaking-or-flaring Mon, 06 Apr 2020 18:05:57 +0000 TreyM 23748@/talks/discussions Hello all,

I just bought a used GH2 from eBay. When I got the camera, I quickly noticed some horizontal magenta sensor flaring/streaking when pointing at a bright light over a dark background. I tested the same lens on a GH4 and the issue was not present, so I am certain this is from the sensor. I sent the following video to the seller and he refunded me and told me to keep the camera. Is the behavior in the video below known behavior for the GH2, or is it indeed faulty? This is the only lighting scenario where the camera does this. It is otherwise perfectly fine and usable. Admittedly, the ISO is really high at 3200, but I'm hoping it's not normal GH2 behavior.

GX10 will have a plug for a microphone but not for headphone and is planned for the beginning of 2020

According to my data it'll be minimal update as almost all Panasonic resources moved from m43 bodies.

All major features must be same, including 30 min limits, non working HDMi during capture and so on.

New LSI must debut only with GH6 as far as I know.

4K crop calculations:

Stills horizontal resolution - 4608
Cinema 4K horizontal resolution - 4096
4K horizontal resolution - 3840

This makes crop:

  • Cinema 4K - 1,125x
  • 4K - 1,2x

of course, it is additional crop (to 2x typical for m43), so you must multiple two if you need to know relative FF crop.

Since about a year this is not possible any more. I have to switch the GH5 on go to replay mode and press the Wifi button on top. Only then I can go to the Iphone, connect the Wifi and then it all works.

Any suggestions what to do to to be able to do it all from the Iphone again without touching the GH5?

GH2 stop recording videa after 12min http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/23304/gh2-stop-recording-videa-after-12min Mon, 30 Dec 2019 12:14:16 +0000 assadaf 23304@/talks/discussions Hello

I only bought a new - for me - GH2 to replace a stolen one and hacked it as usual. The update goes through fine, but for some reason no matter what I do, it stops video recording at 12min and cannot play any of them. Stills are shown fine.

I have tried different SD-cards that work fine on GH4 in all-intra mode. Previously with GH2 I was able to do 88mbit/s, now I tried only 44, no change. Stops at 12min even after creating a new file after the 4GB limit of the FS was exceeded i.e. the video files are playable on computer (VLC/Mplayer).

Any idea what might be the problem?

With my previous GH4 camera the TTL flash did work right, instead on GH% the TTL doesn't work. I saw that TTL on GH4 work with one pre-flash (before the last flash) instead GH5 hav 2 pre-flash before last. my flash (Sea&Sea YS01) aren't able to undestand the 2 pre-flash and they send the last flash out of sync. The question is if is there e setting to change the number of pre-flash on GH% or some custom FW that do it. Tks in advantage.

image

Shown with the new LanParte Remote Handle image

Lanparte has created a new camera cage for the full frame Lumix S1 and S1R. The cage is customized to perfectly fit the camera body. And it does fit very nicely as I tried on a S1 at Kenmore Camera, near Seattle.

image

The cage and camera connected by the quick release Manfroto compatible 701 plate and has a safety locking latch on the left side.

image

The cameraperson can remove the camera body from the cage in seconds.

image

All the ports and switches are not blocked by the cage.

image

There are plenty of 1/4”-20 and 3/8”-16 thread holes on each side to cage body to attach to other devices such as handles, lights, etc.

Also there are NATO rails. One removable and one built-in on the right side of the cage.

A good solution for mounting accessories on your S1.

Why no 400mm or longer M43 Lenses http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6349/why-no-400mm-or-longer-m43-lenses Wed, 06 Mar 2013 17:46:54 +0000 ragnar 6349@/talks/discussions I might be answering this question myself but I would still like to hear from others on this topic. As far as I know 300mm is the top end for M43 lenses. I own the Pana 100-300 lens and use it a lot for bird photography and I enjoy its qualities. I'm wondering if there is a specific technological reason why neither Pana or Oly have not come out with a longer M43 lens. Is it just a size consideration as it would be too big for M43 cams? I guess I could understand that. Maybe there is no demand for anything longer than 300mm for M43?

I've adapted several longers FD lenses to my GH2 and it works of course but I would really love a true M43 400mm or longer lens. I suppose with the Metabones thingy I could adapt a Canon 600mm EF lens and go that route but that'll cost many benjamins for sure. My 100-300 lens is very portable so I think that 400mm could be done but perhaps 300mm is the technological sweet spot for M43 cams and lenses and going 400mm would be just too difficult?

GX9 back dial firmware bug? http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/22280/gx9-back-dial-firmware-bug Sun, 14 Jul 2019 19:45:15 +0000 MarcioK 22280@/talks/discussions I know that the GX9 is not very popular here, but I've got one in a very good price; but discovered a very strange problem with the rear dial press behaviour that looks like a firmware bug, and want to confirm it if someone have the same camera.

Since the beginning (at least since the GH2, the 1st Panasonic that I've had - after that was a GX7 and GX85), when using adapted or m4/3 lenses without contacts, like the Rokinons, when you press the rear dial, the enlarged view was activated in the LCD/EVF, which was very convenient to help focusing. But when first trying the GX9, pressing the rear dial with my Rokinon 12mm have no effect at all.

When looking more closely, I've discovered that in S,M or video modes, pressing the back dial have the previous known behaviour: the enlarged view is engaged. But in the A ou P modes, nothing happens. Did a factory reset, same thing.

Anyone have this camera and can confirm this? And someone knows how to report a firmware bug to Panasonic?

Conservative amount of denoise to avoid plastic look and keep image texture after denoise.

Noise reduction -5

How many m43 cameras releases are left? http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/22234/how-many-m43-cameras-releases-are-left Sat, 29 Jun 2019 06:27:08 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 22234@/talks/discussions While 43rumors spread optimistic stuff I do not agree much on it.

From Panasonic we can see another compact, expensive, not for video, overheating m43 camera. No 4K 60fps and all else. All new lenses they will release extremely slow will be only top margin. Only thing Panasonic managers are talking now is how to reach maximal margin on any product. As Panasonic is planning to shrink cameras production factories soon it is also handy. Management is not even sure if S system will live another year, as for now sales are horribly bad.

From Olympus it is all too fuzzy, company now try to use various false rumors and prototype products to hike camera department price or to get more bonuses for managers during merger. Yet they have one old design camera at hand they can try to release, but I am not sure.

GH5 froze during recording, resulting in unreadable mdt file http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/16854/gh5-froze-during-recording-resulting-in-unreadable-mdt-file Thu, 04 May 2017 12:30:06 +0000 SuperTinyMagnet 16854@/talks/discussions Hey folks! I need help repairing a video file. The other day during a professional shoot, my new GH5 froze up when I hit the record button to stop recording at the end of a 23-minute (!!!) interview take. Even after flipping the power-off switch, the camera stayed on and frozen. I had to remove the battery pack. Now I have an unreadable/unfinished .mdt file that can't be read or played back. Has anyone run into this before?

I'm also wondering how I can prevent this from happening again. I was shooting 4K 10-bit 23.976fps using a Lexar U3 150 mb/s SD card with 128GB of storage (I had used 122gb by the end of the take, and had a few gigs to spare.) I was also using a 3rd party battery by Newmowa, but it had plenty of charge remaining.

Thanks for reading! Any leads at all would be hugely appreciated.

Panasonic moved all force to Full Frame bodies, 8K HDR will be announced in March http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/20355/panasonic-moved-all-force-to-full-frame-bodies-8k-hdr-will-be-announced-in-march Fri, 31 Aug 2018 08:06:16 +0000 zsound 20355@/talks/discussions

10 years later Panasonic will announce a new Full Frame system camera on September 25!

Word on the street is that Panasonic will show a prototype and the final product will be on market during the first half of 2019.

One of the sources testing the camera said this is “as exciting as the Nikon Z7 announcement“. One went even further and said it’s “more exciting“. But of course, they might got carried away with their emotions so let’s keep our feet on ground. A third source said “video performance is superb“.

GH5 photojournalism in PARIS "Revolution" http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/22081/gh5-photojournalism-in-paris-revolution Sun, 19 May 2019 09:39:14 +0000 eurocameraman 22081@/talks/discussions Since 6 months, demonstration against government and neo-liberalim politics are taking place allover France every Saturday, know as Yellow vest protest.

This means 27 weeks of street demonstration with, violence from both sides and repression is now out of limits with new laws allowing abusive arrests and violence with hundreds of severely wounded protesters. However, protesters are not willing to give up.

I personally followed 14th of those events in Paris, as photojournalist. I own a wide range of cameras such as Nikon D750, Nikon D5500, Sony A7M2 and GH5.

After different test and try, I decided to stick to the GH5 as I can easily switch from photos to videos. Also, having more depth of field at wide aperture is an advantage in this kind of environment.

I just wanted to share some of my shots, to show what M43 can do in a difficult working surrounding.

I am using Lumix lenses : 7-14 mm f/4, 12-35 mm f/2.8, 35-100 mm f/2.8, 100 - 300 mm f/4-5.6

Update: I created a Flickr Album here with 118 pictures, most of them with explicative caption : https://www.flickr.com/gp/eurocameraman/kH0H7X

Loupe viewfinder for gh5 http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/21763/loupe-viewfinder-for-gh5 Fri, 22 Mar 2019 01:53:15 +0000 Giovassi 21763@/talks/discussions It looks like no one has made a viewfinder for the gh5. I can see some for the gh4 but for what I understood is 3.0" instead of 3.2". Any suggestion to find something in Europe for a decent price?
