Now no longer in manufacture, Varavon loupe for GH3/4 bodies. It's in good condition with only very minor signs of use. It doesn't have the leather strap, that was removed because it just made fitting more awkward, although it doesn't seem to make any difference to the rigidity or light leakage. The only current alternative is the VARY-i €285. Offers around £120+pp. I can mail it abroad.

Hey PV! Are there any options/alternatives to the motoroid/timeroid for the varavon sliders (specifically v800)? Are there other brands/systems that work ?

I'm mainly wondering about the Konova Motorized Kit B that comes with the crank as well. It seems a better value and can be upgraded as I go.

I've also been entertaining DIY and have read numerous ideas, including this one - https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=m5_ZQCQj7sg.

(He doesn't talk about how to attach it to the carriage at all, I'm thinking of buying the varavon weight pulley because it has a plate that fits)

Does anyone have examples of DIY for the varavon ?

Also - going the DIY route - is it a better design to have the have the motor on an end or with the carriage?

I just received my Varavon Slidecam S (from a deal on PV) and did some testing last night with a Manfrotto 501 head.

The sliding seemed to be pretty smooth, though it will still take some practice on my part. The build quality is very good, and it's definitely nice to have a bag.

One small concern is that I wasn't able to securely tighten my 501 head to the slider. There was still side to side movement. This is likely related to the design of the bottom of the head, which is not smooth, but I wonder:

A) If anyone has experienced the same thing and solved it with rubber, cork, or something else.

B) If anyone would recommend a different head, more suitable for this slider and a GH2.

How to buy this thing....

Seems like a more cost-effective alternative to the Switronix PB70 for those looking to power a camera and monitor from the same source, but I haven't seen anything written about this yet. Has anyone used one?

Short Review of the Varavon Slider (Lite 600) and Motorroid

My battery is giving me problems but I bought a cheap one off ebay so not at all the fault of Varavon. (if anyone has a suggestion for a decent and right priced battery let me know.)

One suggestion to Varavon is to have the Motorroid unit attach to the slider with more than one screw. If it were attached with two screws on each end, rather than one, I believe it would be more resistant to loosening. This wasn't a major issue, but was something I noticed.

Above is the first video I did with the slider and it added a ton of production value to the short film. I probably overused the slider because I was excited about adding that slow, steady, cinematic motion to my shots. Combined with a 90 degree plate I was able to get nice looking pseudo-jib shots (the camera moving vertically instead of horizontally) in the garage and over the stone wall. I'd also suggest getting a good ball head to go between the camera and the slider to quickly be able to level up any shot. Huge benefit. The best part of using the motorroid is its ability to slide the camera very slowly, and very steadily. When I use the slider without the Motorroid, I cannot move the camera as slowly and steadily, and the "high production value" look is lost.

Just my 2 cents.

Varavon Armor Uni for Cage or Bracket GH2

The Varavon Armor Uni is up for sale as a CatchIt deal today at an unbeatable price and I'm really tempted to get it. Before I do I'd like to ask if any of you guys use it and what you think about it. It is the only cage(?)/bracket style thing I can think of that (at a reasonable price) gives clear access to the controls on the right side of the camera while still allowing the LCD screen to swing out on the left side. There is also a neat accessory camcorder style hand grip you can purchase at an additional cost.

I have a few questions:

When the GH2 is mounted to the baseplate can you still get your eye close enough to use the EVF? Does the cage allow the battery door to swing down far enough to change the battery without twisting or removing the camera?

At first I couldn't quite visualize how the GH2 fit into the cage until I saw a 360 degree view on Youtube so here are a few reviews I found to be helpful:
