I work in projection and when I received the trailers for Tomorrowland I found it interesting that it did not fill the scope frame, instead being shown cropped to 2.20:1.

I just received the film itself and I find out that it must be shown like this. The first modern film to be shown in this format, which is the same ratio that 2001 was originally displayed. Not only that setting it up you can enter a contest as a projectionist if you set it up properly. Very interested to see if this is a new trend, as I cannot see Regal being exact in their projection of this film, instead they will just run it in flat. Jurassic world is supposed to be in an even weirder 2:1 ratio.

What do you think of the new format? Personally I feel it is the perfect framing, not to wide or tall, about perfect for my eyes. However there is no natural way to capture this aspect ratio besides cropping the final image for most cameras so it's a bit of an acquisition nightmare.

AFI & Theaters That Show Good Movies https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6174/afi-theaters-that-show-good-movies Mon, 18 Feb 2013 19:44:28 +0000 matt_gh2 6174@/talks/discussions For all you guys in the MD/DC/VA area (east coast US), don't forget about checking out films at AFI in Silver Spring, MD. Just last night I saw Reservoir Dogs by Tarantino. Damn that opening scene looked good on film! Saw The Shining a while back. Somehow I forgot about AFI when they had Lawrence of Arabia, which would have been great on big screen. So definitely check out this theater, because they get a lot of old movies that are pretty damn good.

Also thought this would be a good topic for people to post theaters like this around the country and world, that show good movies.

Music video for Argentinian synthpop band (with lyrics in English!) https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/4868/music-video-for-argentinian-synthpop-band-with-lyrics-in-english Thu, 11 Oct 2012 15:56:12 +0000 charlie_orozco 4868@/talks/discussions Hi! This is the first material I share here. I shot it completely at 720p50 (I wanted 60p, but the band couldn't keep up, they had to play too fast!), with the GH2 of course. The hack was 88Mbps, but the 50p footage wasn't up to par, and ended up showing compression artifacts I had to get rid of.

This was the first work I made with the GH2, only 4 days after it arrived! It was crazy. I used the kit lens for the few wide angle shots there are (the 14-42mm), the 20mm f1.7 and a Minolta MD Rokkor-X 50mm f1.7, which I still have and love it (although I want to get a PG f1.4).

The video was shot in a single day, kind of in a hurry. I actually like narrative stuff, just didn't have the chance to do it here, but I'll be showing a couple more videos I made that actually tell a story later.

Please tell me what you think!
