So I've been looking at Android laptops and two-in-ones: I figure, I could use the two-in-one tablet as a field monitor using the Panasonic app with my GH4-- I figure I'd use the camera's screen as cameraperson, while the director can watch remotely on the laptop/tablet. And the laptop features could be used for file storage and clip logging.

And I'm also considering getting a Windows two-in-one-- that is, if the Panasonic app works under the Android emulators available for Windows. The benefits there are having two OSes, more options for things like hard drives, and maybe even getting a machine capable of running Premiere Pro for some editing in the field.

So, I'm looking for advice. Does the Panasonic app work under an Android emulator well enough for field use? Has anyone else used equipment in this manner? (And is Panasonic considering creating a version of its app to run under Windows?)

Mouse vs Keyboard Shortcuts vs Tablets - How do you like to video edit? https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/16048/mouse-vs-keyboard-shortcuts-vs-tablets-how-do-you-like-to-video-edit Tue, 15 Nov 2016 03:39:34 +0000 matt_gh2 16048@/talks/discussions Thought I'd get everyone's opinion on what you like when video editing. I've always used a mouse, but some like keyboard shortcuts, and I've even heard that some people like tablets, like the Wacom tablet. I'm curious what people like for feeling of control, ease of creativity, speed, and other factors.

Other manufacturers already started making quad code tablets.

They are based on Freescale i.MX6Quad, containing 4-core ARM Cortex-A9 CPU, L2 1Мб cache, and 4-core Vivante GC2000 GPU.

Cheap chinese tablets you can look at https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/3714/cheap-chinese-tablets-you-can-look-at Thu, 28 Jun 2012 18:23:41 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 3714@/talks/discussions image

Disclaimer. I really do not like most Chinese tablets :-)

If you wanted to get cheap tablet for specific task here is extra short guige (at the moment of writing):

  • Look for hi-res IPS screen. I suggest 10" 1280x800 screens used in few of them.
  • CPU (in fact it is LSI) you must look at: Rockchip RK3066 (better and newer) and Allwinner A10 (cheaper and very popular, with good H264 hardware accl)
  • RAM - 1GB
  • it is also better to get one with MicroSD slot
  • Try to find one with Mini or Micro HDMI output option

Where to look?

Nexus 7 to view clips https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/9333/nexus-7-to-view-clips Mon, 13 Jan 2014 13:00:50 +0000 p_hawks 9333@/talks/discussions I wanted to know if anyone has experience using a Nexus 7 (2013 version) to view clips from a hacked gh2. I don't know which hack, I just know it is over 100mbps. I'm wondering if I would be able to use it to playback clips when I'm on the go before I get to my desk to edit. My idea was to use a card reader. Also, I have a 64gb thumb drive, so would it be possible to move clips onto the thumb drive from a memory card using just the tablet (and a few cables)? I am very close to pulling the trigger on buying one, and this will be the deciding factor, so any help is appreciated.

Can you work on Win 7 based tablet? Without any problems.
Being very old Tablet PC user I can say this without doubt.

Use now W500 from time to time and one of my old Motion tablets.
Plays all 1080p videos, and can do anything else.
Including showing complex PowerPoint presentations with embedded video on projector via HDMI.

Btw, iPad design approach to tablets is awful for any serious prolonged work.]]>
