"My research suggests that GoPro is not having a good holiday season. Consequently, I don’t think fourth quarter numbers will be that good. Considering more than a third of this year’s revenues are expected to be generated in the fourth quarter, bad Q4 numbers could send the stock to new lows."

"GoPro’s Bad Holiday 2017 It doesn’t look like GoPro cameras and drones are selling that well this holiday season. While GoPro cameras are the best-selling action camcorders at Best Buy Co Inc (NYSE:BBY), it looks like this whole action camera space is shrinking.

Just look at search interest trends for GoPro’s cameras over time. Each new product launches to less fanfare than prior products. The Hero4 had higher search interest than the Hero5, which had higher search interest than the Hero6. This is a bearish trend that only accelerated this year, implying GoPro action cameras aren’t a popular gift item this year."

Here in Norway the biggest consumer electronics retailers have started a price dump on the Hero6 which is now rebated by more than 100 euro.

Replacement for the stock battery for G7, GH2, possibly the new G85 https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/15833/replacement-for-the-stock-battery-for-g7-gh2-possibly-the-new-g85 Sun, 02 Oct 2016 11:32:48 +0000 DrDave 15833@/talks/discussions Actually, a good replacement for the stock battery. Maybe more. For G7, GH2 &c. possibly the new G85

I use a lot of the BLC12 Batteries. I buy the Panasonic ones; they aren't cheap but they last the longest and don't turn the camera off with no warning.
However, I do buy aftermarket batteries for testing from time to time. They often have very high ratings, and they never work very well.
A few years ago, I bought the DSTE "1600mah" battery. It had about 70 percent of the stock battery's power, and the stock battery is 1200 mah. So that's 840mah, or about half the advertised capacity.
A few weeks ago, I purchased the 1700 mah version at this link:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MEAMBQU
It weighs 55 gm as opposed to the stock 50gm. Previous clones weighed 46 and 48 gm.
Now before you get excited, the extra weight is probably ballast, since you can't squeeze more cells into a battery, as a general rule.
However, after extensive testing, this battery is equal to--not better--but equal to stock. The only difference is that the shutdown curve is a bit steeper.
So it isn't "1700" mah, but it is basically a stock battery.
This was quite a shock, but I repeated the tests several times. In one test, I simply turn on the camera and record video until the battery croaks, and measure the time. Both the stock battery and the DSTE run the G7 for two hours of video, sometimes a few minutes more, sometimes a few minutes less. So, finally, an inexpensive option. At least for this batch. Also, see my post on the cheap external battery that will run your camera all day.

Good drone stock footage https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/18379/good-drone-stock-footage Sun, 03 Dec 2017 12:11:13 +0000 kupchenpo 18379@/talks/discussions Does anyone out there have a good source for quality, yet inexpensive or free drone footage? I have a subscription to video blocks and the drone footage on there isn't great. Thanks for any leads!

Panasonic GH3 firmware update V1.2 https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/7470/panasonic-gh3-firmware-update-v1.2 Tue, 09 Jul 2013 10:51:25 +0000 mpgxsvcd 7470@/talks/discussions I couldn't find any other threads on the new GH3 firmware V1.2. If this isn't the correct place to post please move it.

It appears that low light AF is improved. and several new settings are added. I don't fully understand when AF is improved though. Is it when the scene is underexposed or just when you are using a high ISO? I have tried some tests with my v1.1 firmware GH3 but it seems to do an excellent job already without the update.

Has anyone applied the update already. Will applying this update prevent you from using a Hack/Patch that is based off of the v1.1 firmware? If so then I imagine a lot of people won't update right away. I don't intend to hack my GH3 so I will give v1.2 a shot.

There is a good explanation of the low light focusing by Andy Westlake at the link below.

http://www.dpreview.com/news/2013/07/09/panasonic-releases-firmware-updates-for-lumix-dmc-gh3-and-g5-mirrorless-cameras

Here are the changes

Ver.1.2

"Low Light AF" is added that makes it possible to set focus on the subject in low-lit situations (-3EV).

"Silent Mode" is added which suppresses electronic shutter, shutter sound, operation sound and flash emission with a single setting.

"Exposure Comp. Reset" is added which resets the setting of exposure compensation to ±0 whenever the camera is turned off or the shooting mode is changed.

Performance of AF is enhanced in use with H-PS14042 and H-PS45175.

Connection problem with Apple Mac computers via Wi-Fi is fixed.

Any comparisons between stock and hacked GH2? https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/573/any-comparisons-between-stock-and-hacked-gh2 Wed, 03 Aug 2011 13:51:39 +0000 jimtreats 573@/talks/discussions
I just wondered if anyone had put up any stills, or clips of the same scene between a stock and hacked GH2 where the improvements are clear to see?

I've yet to hack mine and am about to go away for a week's holiday with it next week, I'm torn as to whether to hack with stable settings or just leave it as is because i'll be away from my computer so unable to revert anything if i encounter an issue.

My gut says play it safe and wait, but I just wondered if there were any comparisons where the difference is so large that it'd be worth me hacking to try and improve any footage i get.

Seriously cool use of stock footage https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6194/seriously-cool-use-of-stock-footage Wed, 20 Feb 2013 17:00:42 +0000 ahbleza 6194@/talks/discussions This music video shows an amazing selection and repurposing of "stock" video clips. Highly impressive work. If you look carefully, they seem to have taken the time to match the outfits, accessories, weather conditions and even lighting with the overlays.

In The City - Skyscrapers and busy business streets footage required for Music Video https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/2973/in-the-city-skyscrapers-and-busy-business-streets-footage-required-for-music-video- Sun, 22 Apr 2012 11:37:36 +0000 driftwood 2973@/talks/discussions This is an urgent request. We need this in the next 24 hours as weve had a late 'idea' for projecting city images for a vid shoot.

Does anyone have any small clips of cityscapes or busy business streets video clips they can let me use to project onto the faces of a band music video I am doing? I am looking to gather major cities of the world whther they are overview, low wide angle, timelapse or anything that includes skylines, tall buildings and bust CITY work areas - people going to work in rush hour etc...?

Anything considered. Of course theres no money in it but you will recieve a produiction credit if footgae is used. So please scour your back catalogue for ANYTHING remotely good looking.

Anyone with material should contact me on driftwood.brighton@gmail.com with a link to the footage that I can download. It doesnt have to be massively high resolution, compressed is good enough.

Any camera, any setting, its the images we need.

Many thanks if you can help.

Nick
