I've been using mygearvault android app but I don't like it very much and I don't like the way it handles information too: you have to create an account to use it and it focuses on the price of the items and insurance stuff. I would prefer a more traditional and private software. I don't care about synchronization between devices either

I thought to make a fillable PDF forms wich I could carry with me but first I would like to know the solutions that commonly you are using to that matter and to elaborate and export collections of gear for specific tasks, too.

Thanks

Reason: third party licenses.

I wonder if all this is again because of Cinema DNG and RAW video formats (e.g. Photoshop can work with CDNG).

Headphone Calibration. What about it? https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/17475/headphone-calibration.-what-about-it Mon, 07 Aug 2017 07:46:29 +0000 RoadsidePicnic 17475@/talks/discussions Is there any real benefit of using a calibration profile in a decent headphone (let's say, Superlux Hd681 or better)?

Second, if there's actual benefit in it, when it becomes practical to spend US$ 120,00 on a calibration plugin?

Found that Sonarworks Reference 3 Headphone software and people reviewing it in the internet got me curious.

Here is a quote from their website:
"Hi-end studio sound from your headphones. Headphone calibration is the process of measuring and adjusting the frequency response of headphones in order to precisely match flat and neutral sounding studio monitors in a well treated studio. Standard studio headphones are transformed into perfectly-engineered precision devices. By giving yourself the gift of accurate sound, you can mix and master with total confidence."
https://www.sonarworks.com/headphones/

And here is a quote of a review by Matthew Weiss:
"So is this product just a fancy EQ? Well, yes and no. Essentially, it is just an EQ. However, the curves it’s recreating are not curves that you could simply dial in by ear or with simple measurement of white noise. Sonarworks notes that there is “resolution up to 16000 correction points” which is way more than any market EQ can give you."

Difference between Magix Vegas Pro and Video Pro https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/21200/difference-between-magix-vegas-pro-and-video-pro Wed, 26 Dec 2018 08:02:52 +0000 RoadsidePicnic 21200@/talks/discussions Recently got involved in deploying a very small institutional communication team. The hardware available to video editing is mostly a couple of low profile sandy bridge i7 and common RAM witch would be added 1050ti. Target source is GH5 (not defined).

Searching for some editors with FX suite that reported to run OK on these specs, decided to contact Magix about their Vegas Pro and Video Pro software.

The reply came:

  • Video Pro is a semi-professional software to advanced videographers
  • Vegas Pro is a professional software to production companies

So, ok it does give the idea of how the company place the two, but would the people here on the forum know about the effective difference of the software? What are the main things that set them apart in terms of function and integration?

It is free, BIG BIG THANKS to Selur from here =)
It is very fast, resourceful (picture below shows its guts), multiformat ( x264, x265, Xvid, VP9, proRES / mov, mkv, mp4, avi, etc.), quite simple to use and navigate and yet it has almost all important options for audio and video conversion (including adding TC). Selur just updated the program today with, among many other improvements and tweaks, a max resolution of 16384x16384 so now you'ld be able to convert alexa 6.5K files :P

Now, if you like it and use it, maybe you could spare some change so the guy can buy flowers #1 to his girlfriend =)

New teleprompter software - beta invites (free) https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/17370/new-teleprompter-software-beta-invites-free Wed, 19 Jul 2017 09:41:01 +0000 easyprompter 17370@/talks/discussions Hey everyone, about 8 years ago, I launched EasyPrompter - an online teleprompter/autocue. What was first a DYI solution to the problem of "all the prompter software out there sucks" quickly became a very popular web-based teleprompter tool. It's been way over-due for an upgrade and I'm happy to tell you all that the upgrade is nearly ready.

There are a couple features I wanted to highlight as I think they're pretty great, especially on something you run in a web browser

  • Rich text editing
  • Mirroring (horizontal and vertical)
  • Dual-screen capable - this gives you the ability to have an operator and a talent screen
  • Configurable shortcuts (keyboard / control surface / presentation remote)
  • Save unlimited scripts in the cloud
  • Access on any device - web, tablet or smartphone
  • Fully offline capable - once you load it, you can run it in the field without an internet connection

These are just some and more features will come as more people tell me what they need. I want this to be the best web-based teleprompter solution out there and you can help make that happen!

You can sign up for the beta right now which will give you at least 90 days access to the full EasyPrompter Pro in exchange for your feedback.

You can sign up at https://www.easyprompter.com/beta

Thank you!

WAVI: Mux Your WAVs and AVIs with matching names automatically. https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/11092/wavi-mux-your-wavs-and-avis-with-matching-names-automatically. Thu, 21 Aug 2014 15:09:04 +0000 fatpig 11092@/talks/discussions I want to let you know of my new software, which I offer for free.

WAVI AutoMUX lets you choose directories which contain WAV and AVI files- and it will mux each wav into an avi with matching name.

I coded this some days ago to deal with the tedious muxing of mute AVIs which are created by Resolves processing of DNG sequences, which were recorded with a separate WAV file, like in most DNG recording cameras like Blackmagic, Sony FS700 or Magic Lantern. (at the moment just WAV/AVI, other formats might be added by request)

you can get it at: http://www.fatpigtures.com/wavi-automux.html you will need ffmpeg in its directory.

Let me know what you think.

Idea of repeatable focus for GH2/GH3/GH4/etc while using focus-by-wire lenses https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/9685/idea-of-repeatable-focus-for-gh2gh3gh4etc-while-using-focus-by-wire-lenses Fri, 21 Feb 2014 18:38:12 +0000 brooklynDev 9685@/talks/discussions The thing I would most want in the world from my gear at the moment is repeatable focus moves for my GH3 and it's nice Panny zoom lenses.

As you may or may not know, Panasonic makes some nice lenses for the Micro Four Thirds system. If you are using a M43 camera like the GH3 and you have use for fancy features like small form factors, good optical image stabilization, and excellent clarity there's a good chance you would want to make use of one or more of the these Panasonic branded Leica infused pieces of glass. One issue with them though: are you a videographer or AC doing precise focus? You are S-O-L. No follow focus for you. No repeatable focus. These lenses use the velocity of your barrel movements in it's algorithm for changing the focus in camera so no two moves are the same. The one and only workaround I have found on the net involves using the distance meter from the camera video output as the basis for tape/stickers: http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/3344/repeatable-focus-moves-with-focus-by-wire-lenses/p1

With the GH2/GH3 being such useful video cameras, and the GH4 looking like it will be a video freaking monster wouldn't it be GREAT if you could get repeatable focus from the focus-by-wire lenses which make up so much of the M43 system?

I understand that the lens focus is controlled electronically but why couldn't there be a 'repeatable focus' mode where the hardware, to a reasonable range of precision, supported the use of a follow focus and focus marks with consistent moves.

If I were a wealthy individual I'd love to put a software engineer or two on the case and see what could be done. What I have seen done that seems interesting is kickstarter projects crowdsourcing a particular software feature or program. Is it possible there are enough people who want what I want and are willing to throw a few dollars at it? I'd gladly throw some cash into making the lenses I already own more versatile.

Is anyone out there a software engineer with some experience with these systems who would, if the budget was there, be willing to look into solving this issue with focus-by-wire lenses? Are there any other Panasonic camera/lens folk out there who would be willing to throw some money at the promise of repeatable focus for that sweet 12-35mm or even the upcoming Nocticron 42.5mm?

So Assimilate has released this free player called Scratch Play for both PC and mac and I must say it is really a mighty and useful one.

FORMATS natively supported

and PLAYBACK

AUDIO abilities

COLOR, now here's where starts to shine

MONITORING

and best for last EXPORT

Cutting long tables short, or not, you can watch (and listen) footage of almost everything, with metadata and SCOPES, LUTs and whatnot. You can compare between 2 clips, same clip at different time, sizes, with different colour settings/grades applied, different color spaces, LUTs, source mode mapping (Lin to Log, viceversa and Lin/sRGB, Log/Filmm Rec 709, Wide Gamut, etc. you can even load yours), 8, 10 and 16 bitdeph, different frame rate/speed (from 0.1 to 199), with different frame size or aspect, offset, with guidelines (2:35, 1:85, etc.), crop marks, color full range and gamma, timecode and 3D baby jesus snorting coke LUT if that's your thing. Here's another cool feature: you can export your LUTs. You can visualize RGB channels plus luminance or alpha only. It supports dual monitoring, makes fullscreen either in single or compare clip mode, you can completely fade borders, guides, etc. Scopes can be transparent or solid, has dedicate snapshot button, a magnifier... for sorting buggers :P and pressing tab (on mac) hides panels.

Now the "drawbacks" it is free with little stupid adds, you'll need a fairly decent powerhourse for all-in smooth performance, you may, just may like it.

The only one it does recognize is the -V103 which is supposed to emulate the original firmware. Please help! I think the Sanity 5 patch I bought the GH2 with is corrupted, because In video mode it's stuck in automatic. I can't change the ISO, or anything. Very strange. I find the GH2's firmware rather shoddy to begin with. If there are any really good firmware updates that you would recommend after the ptools issue is fixed, I would very much appreciate that as well.
