Overheard at Thanksgiving - Short comedy vid shot entirely on the GH2 https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/16115/overheard-at-thanksgiving-short-comedy-vid-shot-entirely-on-the-gh2 Mon, 28 Nov 2016 16:30:40 +0000 stampfli 16115@/talks/discussions Decided to do a last minute shoot for Thanksgiving weekend on my Panasonic GH2. Still a big fan of the camera for low-cost shoots.

We used the Panasonic 20mm for the opening shots (would have preferred the entire shoot on this lens but we were in a time crunch) and the Panasonic 14mm-140mm for everything else. A couple focus issues, but overall happy with the content from such a short time frame.

Here is the final product:

If you're interested, you can have a look at my work on gear video reviews here: YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLxnu1WwoCPfdwE2lQvNCNSJ3WvuW6fArX

You can browse my profiles, I've also uploaded some short films that I made in the last years. Most of them (up to 2012) were made for a contest hosted on the now dead, hv20.com forum. I've done two short films for a contest on a facebook page, the first I shot never made it on time, but I finished it a couple months later. The last, a short film I won the first place, gave me a Kovacam Stabilizer as a prize. Not bad! I purchased the vest and arms to complete the kit, and eventually made my first video review!

Thanks for your time!

Chatterhead - Short Film on Bernie vs Hillary shot on Sony F65 https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/14533/chatterhead-short-film-on-bernie-vs-hillary-shot-on-sony-f65 Wed, 03 Feb 2016 09:42:11 +0000 eddavid 14533@/talks/discussions I directed a film about the debate in our heads that is driving us nuts - Hillary or Bernie?  Vote with our heart or mind?

Shot on the Sony F65 with Cinealta 4k lenses, with Tiffen Digital Diffusion 1/4 filter. The camera is heavy so we used an easy-rig for everything but the subway stuff. In terms of content, this is an idea that was in my head a lot. It's based on walking home from a job one night, thinking a lot about these things. Especially after a post I did and the feedback on it, about Bernie. Calling him a populist and all that. It was interesting, because I chose Bernie but didn't research him when I chose him months ago, even though this is the guy who may be president. And my anger towards Hillary was after reading just one article in Harpers. Interesting how much power we the uniformed are given. Better than some dictatorship, we must not take the ability to vote for granted. Just wish the media educated us better on their past, their records. There I go again! We shot Sony SR Raw -compressed mode which is like shooting red at 5:1 compression. Very simple to load the clips in with the new sony reader. Goes right into resolve, then mostly played with the Sony raw tab, and used a color chart to naturalize the skin tones and went from there. Very easy workflow. Before this card reader, it was really annonying as hell. You had to go through ethernet and load clips from a web browser. Probably is what sunk this camera. But the flip side is that it's what allowed me to afford one :) Incredible low-light camera. Pushed it a lot one stop to 1000 ASA and it looks completely clean. The digital gain looks like film noise. Amazing skin tones. The camera has a lot of meat in the image, a lot of resolution which is nice - gets it a very smooth, natural look. I was I very impressed with the quality of skintones at 3200k. Can't wait to use this guy on many more projects. Just have to figure out how to get it on a movi :)

I have a 'Class 10, 45/mbs sandisk Extreme 32GB card' and I will be shooting it on a (if all goes to plan) Canon 50mm (F/1.4) There's alot of dialogue in the film, and im planning to try roll from one end of the convosation to the other (about 10 minuets in length) (im not sure if this will cause 'spanning' (I think its called) ) Long story short... I'm looking for the best cinematic-looking hack that i can can shoot for 10 minuets without fear of overheating and won't fill up my card like crazy (as I have about a 6 hour shoot, so am looking to be able to carry a fair amount of footage (obvously i won't be shooting for 6 hours straight, but i'll still walk away with a fair bit of footage)

Thanks in advance guys

Figured I'd share this with the GH2 interested community. Inspired by a post-holiday party hangover brunch, a friend and I called a few actor friends and shot this short in a single day. With one camera, one lens, a monopod, and no lighting except for the final night scene.

A warped retelling of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, in which a scumbag loan-shark learns the true meaning of Christmas. Barely.

Specs:

GH2 running Vanilla Hack Firmware V1.1 ISO 160 Nostalgic -2, -2, 0, -1 | Panasonic 20mm 1.7 Lens | Manfrotto Monopod | Zoom H4N audio (and an untrained sound guy) | A handful of actors more talented than we deserved | And a little borrowed production value

For quality's sake, I created a special streaming page including a download link in 1080p. It's in German, but I think it's pretty straight forward.

Plot: In a post-apocalyptic world we follow a man on his desperate way to survive.

Anyway, here is "Young Man" a narrative music video/short film we shot at the beginning of August.

Password: 10111987

Details:

We shot this using two GH2s and varied between the Voigt 25mm, a Nikkor 50mm f1.4, and the stock panny 14-42mm kit lens (wide interiors). The patches we used were older versions of the Nebula pactch (GOP6 I believe Cluster X series 1) and the series one version of Moon (maybe even T5), not quite sure.

Anyway, thought I'd share and just like to say thank you to this wonderful community, even if I've only been lurking lately (corporate life has a way of doing that, but that should be changing soon).
