Currently, I have only created profiles for the 24H, 24L, and 720p60 SH settings, and I use Neat Video version 4. I'm not sure if these profiles will work on other versions, but they may.

If there is enough interest, I can begin to expand the profiles to support more video modes and various hacks beyond Moon T8.

I created a profile for each ISO setting, including secondary settings for the ISO bugged modes (up to 2500 ISO for those) ("clean" is normal, "dirty" is with the bug in case you forget to fix the problem and shoot with the ISO bug)

These profiles were created using the Smooth film mode at -2 -2 -2 -2, though they will probably still work with other modes. What is being picked up here is mostly sensor ISO noise since Moon T8's bitrate is so high.

The end result is that I have been able to recover about 1 - 1.5 stops of extra detail in the shadows on my shots as opposed to it looking like a total mess of noise. If you shoot at crazy high ISO settings, it can't make a shot at 12,800 ISO look like 200 ISO, but as long as your footage is reasonable, you can greatly expand the usable dynamic range of the camera and color grading is that much better.

These profiles should be used FIRST before doing any other processing such as grading, sharpening, scaling, or color correction. Etc...

The 1080p24 profiles seem to work fine on footage shot in variable mode, for example, if you use the 80% mode for slight slow motion.

4k denoise: neatvideo versus in camera noise reduction https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/17833/4k-denoise-neatvideo-versus-in-camera-noise-reduction Sun, 24 Sep 2017 19:01:43 +0000 apefos 17833@/talks/discussions Neatvideo render time in 4k video is very long, very slow render, very time consuming, but quality is better than in camera noise reduction, so...

Two options for 4k denoise:

1 - use noise reduction "-5" in camera and use neatvideo in post production for a better quality denoise.

2 - use noise reduction "0" in camera and avoid neatvideo in post-production for a faster workflow.

Which one to choose?

Wind Noise Reduction https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/12328/wind-noise-reduction Fri, 06 Feb 2015 10:37:14 +0000 gameb 12328@/talks/discussions I am working on the postproduction of a documentary that I shot in the Caribbean, mostly in coastal areas, where the wind was blowing. Even with windprotection attached to mics, I have got some wind noises. Anybody knows a magical wind noise reduction filter? The ones I tried in FCPX change the sound so much, that it sounds ugly.

Noise Reduction software like Neat Video https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5712/noise-reduction-software-like-neat-video- Tue, 08 Jan 2013 11:09:48 +0000 Brian_Siano 5712@/talks/discussions I'm looking for some seriously good noise reduction software, and these are the two that keep getting discussed. Right now, I'm probably going to get ColorGhear-- it's cheaper, there's a lot of color correction features, handles full-hi-def for the money, plus the tutorials-- but Neat keeps getting nice notices for noise reduction.

Has anyone used both of these? Or developed some kind of comparison video?

Is "Peripheral Defocus" works on Hacked Lumix with No Manual Video Mode? https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/11624/is-peripheral-defocus-works-on-hacked-lumix-with-no-manual-video-mode Fri, 24 Oct 2014 02:30:35 +0000 yskunto 11624@/talks/discussions I read that several Lumix with no manual video mode has "Peripheral Defocus" which can control the aperture of the lens. Is there any hacked Lumix G2, GF2, GF3, G3, and GX3 owner that could confirm if their Lumix could do "Peripheral Defocus" and "Flicker Reduction" at the same time? Thank you.

Any tips for reducing lens fisheye in Premiere CS6? https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/11482/any-tips-for-reducing-lens-fisheye-in-premiere-cs6 Sat, 04 Oct 2014 02:50:45 +0000 ikoniq 11482@/talks/discussions Working in Mac Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 and I'm hoping for advice for how to reduce or eliminate the fisheye effect from GoPro's and ultra wide angle lenses ... anyone care to share?

I'm open to purchasing 3rd party filters, just haven't found any that will work in CS6 specifically (it's the version I have).

Thanks!

Post production sound https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/10727/post-production-sound Sat, 05 Jul 2014 05:04:30 +0000 spacewig 10727@/talks/discussions So, I was sitting at a table at a pub tonight with some fat , arrogant cunt that insisted on the idea that unless one was using a particular software it was simply not possible to achieve a professional post-production audio result for their video work. I respectfully disagreed and, following an absurd discussion on the stupidity of software dogma, would like to assist my fellow indie filmmakers struggling with audio on their film productions with some basic workflow/strategies/techniques to achieve the best possible results in so much as audio is concerned . Having said that, I have no desire to do this unless I know there is some kind of demand for such information. Should this be of interest to you, please reply. I'd be happy to share my knowledge/ideas. If there is enough demand I'd be glad to make some videos to illustrate the methods I use.

Self Introduction & Question about Noise Reduction https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6413/self-introduction-question-about-noise-reduction- Sat, 16 Mar 2013 16:01:59 +0000 PCortacans 6413@/talks/discussions Hello everyone. My name is Pedro from Barcelona (Spain). Semi-pro photographer (www.pcortacansphoto.com), on my way to videographer.

For a long time, I've shot videos with any photo camera that I'd have around, not taking care about shutter speed, fps, etc. After some months of saving and research, I decided to go for a GH3. I feel now confident enough to show some of my work to the world (via Vimeo).

Last week I shot a movie in a hospital. Not every space was well lit, and after editing and some basic color grading, I realized there's some kind of noise (or blocks, I'm not sure) on the darker areas (specially black plastic chairs in waiting rooms).

Technicalities: GH3+12-35 f2,8 , MOV at 25fps and 50fps, ISO not higher than 1600, Premiere on Mac.

My question is: is there any serious noise reduction technique in Premiere? Photoshop is excellent at noise reduction, and I am really surprised that everybody is skipping Premiere when talking about N-R, and talking about 3rd party apps.

Please find below a link to the video.

Thank you in advance for your answers!

Motion compensated temporal noise reduction https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/3058/motion-compensated-temporal-noise-reduction Mon, 30 Apr 2012 04:17:56 +0000 balazer 3058@/talks/discussions

Vimeo's compression can't handle all of that noise, so please download a high bit rate version and 1080p samples at http://minus.com/mGH2_low_light_tests/1g

split screen original/denoised

0 s: 720/60p 50 Mbps, ISO 12800, 1/60 s shutter. denoised, decimated

12 s: 1080/30p 135 Mbps, ISO 12800, 1/60 s shutter. denoised, downscaled

23 s: 1080/30p 135 Mbps, ISO 6400, 1/30 s shutter. downscaled, denoised

36 s: 1080/15p 22 Mbps, ISO 3200, 1/15 s shutter. downscaled, denoised, interframe 2x

43 s: 1080/10p 11 Mbps, ISO 2000, 1/10 s shutter. downscaled, denoised, interframe 3x

53 s: 1080/10p 15 Mbps, ISO 12800, 1/10 s shutter. downscaled, denoised, interframe 3x

then repeats, full frame denoised

Part of these samples is simply a test of the trade-offs of high ISOs and long exposure times, with motion compensated frame rate conversion to boost the frame rate of the slow shutter speed samples.

For the noise reduction, I took the TemporalDegrain Avisynth script and rewrote portions of it to better deal with GH2 high ISO footage. Much of the effort was in getting the motion search to produce more accurate vectors in the presence of high noise. I was able to improve the motion search a lot, but it's not perfect. It often misses motion in large low-contrast areas of the image. The other work was to limit the differences between the de-noised output and the source, so as to reduce or hide ghosting artifacts from when the motion search was incorrect. This has a side effect of bringing back some of the noise. I was actually quite conservative about this, trying to keep the footage looking natural, and striking a balance that minimizes all of the different kinds of noise and artifacts. The noise reduction is purely temporal - i.e., accomplished by averaging pixel values across frames. Adding some kind of spatial noise reduction would probably help.

The script is extremely slow on full 1080p frames. To use it on 1080p, you'll need to find some way to divide up the frame and process the pieces in separate instances of Avisynth. 720p processing is not too slow.

There are lots of options in the script that I'll be happy to explain. There are only three or four options that you might want to change. The defaults (which I used for all of the samples) are optimized for 1080p at ISO 12800.

I compared my noise reduction output to that of RE:Vision Effects' DE:Noise plugin, and I think the script does a better job, though the plugin is much much faster.

Please post experiences and usage info for other motion compensated noise reduction software.

GH2 Neat Video noise profiles https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/1003/gh2-neat-video-noise-profiles Wed, 21 Sep 2011 17:32:38 +0000 Meierhans 1003@/talks/discussions
sadly I donĀ“t have the time nor skills to join the battle for best compression settings. So I simply took driftwoods 132 GOP 3 settings as given for the moment, recorded some flat surfaces and threw this into Neat Video. Then tweaked a little, checked with real footage. All 24H, Nostalgic -2, -2, -1, -2, shutter 50... any idea if this matters? I guess FPS will.. but does shutter as well?

However, here is my outcome, not scientific in any way, be warned. If you can do better.. let us know.

(Make sure to set temporal filter ratio at least to 2, so Mister Clean knows enough about the past and the future to make the right decisions...)]]>
