GH2 RELOADED https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/15127/gh2-reloaded Thu, 26 May 2016 11:42:15 +0000 frullaccia 15127@/talks/discussions Into the Full HD world, our GH2 camera and Panasonic processor have still much to give us. This new hack is based upon my personal Gop 1 development. But almost every single parameter has been adapted to match some original and extreme choices. I made all possible to get a neat and rich picture. It has been a step-by-step hard work. In particular the hbr mode was very difficult to manage. To tell the truth, I didn't touch the 1080i60 and 720p60 modes, which are taken by Apefos' The End patch.
I hope that somebody will find useful and beautiful our new used GH2.

FS: Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH1K (PAL) Complete Photo / Video Kit https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/17878/fs-panasonic-lumix-dmc-gh1k-pal-complete-photo-video-kit- Mon, 02 Oct 2017 01:30:46 +0000 Spectra 17878@/talks/discussions Included are the following items...

1 x Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH1K (PAL) Camera Body This camera body was bought new by me around 2010 - Excellent condition.

1 x Panasonic DE-A49C Battery Charger / AC PSU Adapter

1 x Genuine Panasonic Battery

1 x Powermart Battery

1 x GH1 Camera Body Strap

1 x Pixco Konica Mount to M43 Adapter

1 x Pixco Nikon F-Mount to M43 Adapter

1 x Konica Hexanon 40mm f1.8 Full Frame Pancake Lens. It is a VERY sharp lens (as good as my Nikkor AIS Primes) and in mint condition - No dust, fungus or scratches. Aperture blades and focus ring are perfect.

1 x 55mm Kalimar Skylight 1B Warming Filter

1 x 8 Gb San Disk Extreme Pro 45Mb/s SD Card

4 x SD Cards (up to 2 Gb) with multiple GH-1 patches

1 x Sescom LN2MIC-ZMH4-GH1 Mic level to Line level 25dB Attenuation cable This cable allows professional audio mixers and recorders like Tascam DR-100 Zoom H4 etc to be plugged in.

1 x JJC Remote trigger / Timelapse intervalometer (2x AAA Battery Powered)

1 x Metz 20BC4 Mecablitz Flash (3x AA Battery Powered)

1 x Software CD-ROM + Printed Manual

This camera is in excellent condition and has had very little use over the past few years. I am not sure what shutter count is on the body (maybe less than 10K actuations) but can upload a photo taken recently so you can check yourself. Video quality is superb in good light.

Tested and working with Mecablitz Flash - works great and syncs at up to 1/160th Shutter Speed.

The only known issue I have with the camera is the Nikon F to m43 Adapter can sometimes be difficult to remove and when you plug in the remote it sometimes doesn't trigger due to Panasonics design of the input jack. Just make sure it is securely plugged in and it works fine.

Asking Price $250 USD for everything. Paypal only.

I will also throw in these 2 C-Mount lenses for an extra $50 USD if interested.

My very bitter GH5 experience & how Panasonic treats customers https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/17142/my-very-bitter-gh5-experience-how-panasonic-treats-customers Tue, 13 Jun 2017 21:33:40 +0000 yiannis_zach 17142@/talks/discussions Hi guys,

I'd like to share here, in a separate-dedicated post (I have a serious reason for this), my very bitter experience with Panasonic & my GH5:

I have been a faithful Panasonic user since the GH2 camera (we, most of us here had one, especially after @driftwood's hack) and also have had since, at least the following Panasonic camera-models: GH3, GH4, now the (defected in my case) GH5, but also the G7, G80, GM1 and just a week ago I received my GX80. I have also owned most of the Panasonic-Lumix lenses.

I placed my pre-order for the GH5 on 19/01/2017 via CVP.com (UK dealer) and although the final receipt of purchase was made by the CVP company on the 24/03/2017, when I applied for the 5 year-warranty Panasonic offered to clients that pre-ordered the GH5, in the warranty confirmation I received from Panasonic-UK, my warranty counting from the pre-order’s date & not from the date that the final receipt was made, so actually Panasonic-UK short changed (stole) the customer over 2 MONTHS on the warranty period.

I've never contacted Panasonic for this last matter, but the warranty should/has to start from final receipt of goods...

Now: The camera I received was defective, having the following problem described below -as in my note to Panasonic-FR service centre where

I sent the camera for repair, on the 09/05/2017:

“Very often, when I switch-on the camera, both the EFV and the monitor are going completely black. The camera does takes pics/videos while all is black (but I’m not able to see what I shoot, through the EVF or/and the monitor). I have to switch-Off the camera and then ON again, in order for the camera to start working properly… And when I do so, the camera needs at least 3-4 seconds to get Switched-Off, which means that if on a job (wedding or other) I need immediate response from the camera, I simply don’t get it. Same applies after "Sleep-Mode": I press the Shutter-Button in order to “wake-up” the camera so to shoot something important that may happening in-front-of me, but everything is completely black, so I’m losing those important moments I wished to shot… Both the above cases are happening 1 out of 3-4 times I try to work with the camera, so you may not be able to notice this immediately, but after some tries. I’ve tried to correct this by using the “Reset” in camera’s settings, I was also hoping that this may be fixed by the latest firmware, but nothing… As you understand, this way the camera is completely useless, especially for serious use."

I contacted CVP, the guys there told me to send the camera to them, but as I Live in France, I said "let me contact Panasonic-FR too before I'll ship to you".

When I first contacted -on the 09/05/2017- Panasonic-FR, I explained them in every detail the issue that the camera has and made them clear that the product was purchased from a UK store. As of course it is covered also by the European warranty, they told me that I had to send it to their service centre, named "Nikken Tecno France" which I did. I immediately contacted this last company/service-centre and the same day (09/05/2017) the camera was shipped to them.

They received it on the 12/05/2017.

I got the camera back from "Nikken Tecno France" on the 26/05/2017, & after they had changed (as they describe it in their invoice) the "Printed Circuit Board", but, with great surprise, I discovered that the camera not only had the same exact issue as before, but it was also scratched on the outer body (a tiny scratch up and right, close to the shutter button), and also their "repair" had affected the performance of the camera, more specifically the ISO performance, like for example shooting in any "Picture-Profile" at ISO-3200 was like shooting the same camera before with ISO-25800... Full of ugly noise... Even my GH4 at ISO-3200 was way cleaner at this same ISO.

Here to mention that I sent to "Nikken Tecno France" a camera with V-LOG installed (an extra purchase, cost of €106), but I received a camera without V-LOG, so new contact with Panasonic-France (only for the V-LOG as the old key-code can't be installed twice), the same day I received it from the "repair" (26/05/2017, I keep all emails) before discovering the new problems the camera had after I received it back. 3 weeks since that the V-LOG key-code asked and I've never received anything back from them... But even if they'll do send me one is now useless, you'll see below why.

Back to the main issues: I contacted "Nikken Tecno France", they said to send it back, so to pay again from my own pocket the new postage expenses, I refused that they will touch my camera again, then I called back Panasonic-FR, I explained them all the above issues (including that the camera received scratched from their repair service) and the person on the phone from Panasonic-FR clients service, after she spoke with a manager while I was waiting on my phone-call, she told me that they were going to contact CVP, in order to arrange a camera replacement with a brand new one. This, on the 31/05/2017...

I contacted CVP this same day to inform them about the situation and what Panasonic-FR told me, and they advised me (so to shorten the

time as they -wisely- said) to send my camera and everything I received with my purchase, back to them. And so I did.

The camera left my hands on the 31/05/2017 and received by "CVP Pro-Repairs team" department the 06/06/2017 (and it's been there since)...

As I had no news from Panasonic's side after they told me for a replacement on the 31/05/2017, I contacted again the French department and spoke once again with them (07/06/2017), and they told me (for first time!!) that Panasonic-UK is the only responsible for my case... I reminded to them our last conversation from the 31/05/2017 when they told that the camera will be replaced, & they said “give us some time to speak with manager” and after some minutes I received an email:

“We kindly ask you to contact the UK team that is able to guide you in finding the authorized service centre for your GH5 product” (!!!) ...

So, "from Annas to Kaiafas", like I'm Panasonic's tennis-ball...

This same day, immediately, I called Panasonic-UK for first time and spoke with someone named John. I was calling from France to UK, so extra money spent on phone calls... I had to start from the very beginning, explaining everything in every little detail and at the end, John told me that for this "just recently released brand new product", ONLY Panasonic-UK and its special-dedicated service-centre was the one and only that the camera had to be sent from the very beginning and that Panasonic-FR did a huge mistake not to ask me from the very beginning to contact the UK department and only... He concluded his speech that now Panasonic-FR had to give me the solution to their mistake...

Back again to Panasonic-FR (all this, the Wednesday 07/06/2017), new call to them, new apologies from their side, new discussions between personnel & manager, so she finally said "Please give us 2-3 days, maybe Friday you'll have my news"...

Until today, 14/06/2017, 36 days after I first sent my GH5 for repair & I still don't have my camera in my hands. 36 full days, without a product which costs: €2000 + €106 the V-LOG + €50 for 2 shipments + many phone calls cost + time lost (which means non-working time = losing income)...

Yesterday I called once again both Panasonic-FR & Panasonic-UK, they both saying "your case is under review"... They also both mentioned that CVP is responsible that I don't have a replacement in my hands sent by them for the period my own camera is at them... New "tennis game" here again...

In less than 2 weeks from today, I fly to Greece where I'll stay 5 weeks & have to use my camera & no-one has ANY IDEA when a solution will be given... If not a camera will be shipped to me within a week from now, I'm just f@cked up... & I'll be able again to receive a camera (if they'll have decide till then) after the 3 of August, which means I'll be for over 3 months without my tool that I have fully paid to them...

Any help-suggestion will be much appreciated. A letter sent to all of them (Pana UK & FR + to CVP) yesterday & I really don't know what else to do. To make a video & publish it online & then share it to any forum related to Pana? Talk with a lawyer? I don't really know...

@Vitaliy_Kiselev? or even Nick @driftwood that you're a Pana boy now, any help?

Thanks everyone for your time.

Is V-log identical in both the GH4 and GH5? https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/17140/is-v-log-identical-in-both-the-gh4-and-gh5 Tue, 13 Jun 2017 10:57:17 +0000 Brian_Siano 17140@/talks/discussions I can't determine if this has been asked before, so I apologize for any duplication. But is the V-log implementation identical between these cameras?

For example, if I were to shot the same scene with the two cameras, both using V-log and otherwise identical settings, would the resulting video be more or less the same?

Could I use the same LUTs on the footage? Or does GH5 V-log footage require different LUTs than those of the GH4?

GH5 DIY Power Solution development https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/16830/gh5-diy-power-solution-development Sat, 29 Apr 2017 22:15:35 +0000 nahlene 16830@/talks/discussions Dear fellows @ Personal View,

New registered user but frequent visitor here. My name is Chenxing and I am based in Toronto, Canada. I run a small documentary and commercial production house ( our website). 1 month ago We've got an early shipping of the GH5 and tested in field. Turns out the battery performance is not as good as i hoped (4k with IBIS only last a bit more than 1 hour 20 mins in real world usage.). So 1 month later, now I am in the process of co-designing an enhanced battery grip specifically for GH5 that will be able to at least triple GH5 4k running time, AND optionally output power for more devices.

I am now working with a reputed camera power supply workshop in Beijing, China. We are half-way in the prototype making and expected to have this thing go on KICKSTARTER by the end of May and start shipping around early August.

As you can see in the pictures below, at this time we have finished the 1st prototype with Li-polymer built-in battery, which currently supplies 5500mAh (a standard Panasonic DMW-BLF19 supplies 1860mAh), our not-so-scientific first test suggests that the GH5 camera will continuous run around 9 hours with the grip (4k 422 10bit, Leica 12-60 f2.8-4, on tripod, IBIS abled but it's slacking on tripod.)

image

But here's the fun part, in the Prototype ii, i am suggesting to implement additional power outputs on the grip. So that the grip will be able to supply 7.4 power to gh5 via dummy battery while simultaneously supply:

  • DC 12v (emergency use for most LEDs and some hungrier devices such as BMDCC and BMMCC)
  • DC 7.4v (most monitors, recorders, taredek wireless devices can be powered by 7.4v power)
  • 5v USB (emergency charging for most smartphones, most Sony α series, and some wierdo small LEDs)

I've got this idea to carry less battery and most importantly, improve the ergonomic of the whole rig (decrease the weight on the top). Essentially it's got most of benefit of using v-mount battery without the weight, size, cost and troubles.

But since this would cost a bit in R&D and implementation. I'd like to ask some questions to help us better make decisions. You opinion is deeply appreciated:

  1. Do you think you would buy this battery grip with power output? If so, what do you mostly shoot?
  2. Do you think the 3 power output plan meets your need? If it's too much or not enough let me know.
  3. Is there any other additional function you really want to add to this battery grip?
  4. What is your price range perception for this product.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR PARTICIPATION.

If this product could achieve reasonably well reception we will use the income to design a generic battery grip for all dslr and mirrorless video cameras that can also be used partially as a cheeseplate/halfcage (an optimized and more practical competition to Atomos PowerStation sort of...).

FEEDBACK ASKED: Working as a camerawoman and editor on music videos https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/11911/feedback-asked-working-as-a-camerawoman-and-editor-on-music-videos Sat, 06 Dec 2014 17:40:12 +0000 dlzn 11911@/talks/discussions I'm currently working as a videographer for like 10 months right now. Mostly 'specialized' in doing guerrilla style music videos. My goal is to achieve the high budget look, with the low budget costs (don't we all).

Gear used on both videos:

  • Panasonic GH2 cam with flowmotion hack
  • Two Minolta MD lenses, 28mm F1.8 and 50mm F.17
  • Sigma 19mm F2.8
  • Mostly shot with: a rig, tripod, table slider and handheld

My goal is to eventually work more with commercial artists and especially to learn as much as possible about cinematography and cinematic aspects used in music videos.

Would love to receive some feedback on both videos!

Cheers,

Looking how to adapt some older lenses to the GH4 https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/16892/looking-how-to-adapt-some-older-lenses-to-the-gh4- Tue, 09 May 2017 22:08:29 +0000 ForrestGray 16892@/talks/discussions Hello!

I recently purchased a Helios 44-2 58mm lens as well as a Jupiter 12 35mm lens. I did a little research and purchased I believed to be the correct adapters to use the lenses on my Panasonic Lumix GH4. Sadly, I've grabbed a 'Keycay L39 to M4/3' and a Fotasy L39 to M4/3 neither which allowed me to focus the lens once secured to the camera.

Im also wondering what kind of adapter would allow me to use the Jupiter lens, as well.

Any input is appreciated!

App fetures:

  • Photo capture and video recording start/stop.
  • Changing basic parameters like ISO, Aperture, and Shutter. Changes on camera get reflected to app, as current mode auto parameters.
  • Multiple cameras can be connected at once, for now need switching to see and control, but I plan split-screen and separate windows. You can connect cameras to common WiFi access point.

I wish to test it with Hololens. Should be cool watching liveview in any position.

Need Clarification on the new Lumix 12-35 II & 35-100 II Lenses https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/16640/need-clarification-on-the-new-lumix-12-35-ii-35-100-ii-lenses Sat, 25 Mar 2017 08:18:24 +0000 smoke23 16640@/talks/discussions I'm looking for clarification on the new Panasonic Lumix 12-35 II & 35-100 II lenses. I already have a 12-35 & 35-100, what are the benefits of these news lenses if you're getting a GH5 compared to the version 1?

Is it worth the upgrade?

Thanks!

Panasonic Lumix GH5 Testing Requests https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/16411/panasonic-lumix-gh5-testing-requests Sun, 05 Feb 2017 09:52:36 +0000 tylerknight 16411@/talks/discussions My name is Tyler Knight, I am a Lumix Ambassador and LumixStories.ca Storyteller in Canada.

I will be receiving a pre-production unit to test next week and want to put it through its paces. I will have access to the body, xlr adapter, battery grip, and the new 12-60 Leica kit lens.

Please comment below with your test requests and any specifics and I will do my best to accommodate! Let me know the features that you're really excited to see, and features you've seen examples of but have questions about. I will have it for approximately 2-3 weeks and will be doing a daily vlog showcasing as much as possible.

As stated in the other thread, I have many scheduled shoots already as I am a full time videographer/photographer and will be using this as a chance to really see how it performs in a real-world setting!

Once the requests come in and videos come out, I would like to assemble them in a stickied post at the top of this thread if possible with the type of test, and the link beside it (eg. GH5 low light comparision to GH4 and G85)

I have a large collection of vintage lenses I will be testing, as well as comparing lumix lenses across my other Lumix cameras such as GH4, G85 (G80) and GX85 (GX80)

Looking forward to hearing your requests!

Panasonic Image App: Use with Laptops and Tablets https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/14044/panasonic-image-app-use-with-laptops-and-tablets Mon, 09 Nov 2015 07:17:06 +0000 Brian_Siano 14044@/talks/discussions I was thinking of sinking some cash into a laptop, and it occurred to me that I ought to take location shooting into consideration. So I've been looking at Android laptops and two-in-ones: I figure, I could use the two-in-one tablet as a field monitor using the Panasonic app with my GH4-- I figure I'd use the camera's screen as cameraperson, while the director can watch remotely on the laptop/tablet. And the laptop features could be used for file storage and clip logging.

And I'm also considering getting a Windows two-in-one-- that is, if the Panasonic app works under the Android emulators available for Windows. The benefits there are having two OSes, more options for things like hard drives, and maybe even getting a machine capable of running Premiere Pro for some editing in the field.

So, I'm looking for advice. Does the Panasonic app work under an Android emulator well enough for field use? Has anyone else used equipment in this manner? (And is Panasonic considering creating a version of its app to run under Windows?)

Whole Voigtlander set for video? 10.5 mm 17.5 mm 25 mm 42.5 mm https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/16601/whole-voigtlander-set-for-video-10.5-mm-17.5-mm-25-mm-42.5-mm Fri, 17 Mar 2017 06:20:30 +0000 skatemurai 16601@/talks/discussions 5 years back, I researched and found praises for Nokton lens, so I bought Nokton 25 mm. I fall in love with it - with its build quality and its softness. Unfortunately for some reason I sold it and tried to gave up this hobby.

After some months I bought Nokton 17.5 mm and Panasonic G6, then Phantom 3 Pro and last year Panasonic 100-300.

As my hobby and side job, I shoot videos of weddings, cultural events, and so on. Recently I got idea to step up and upgrade my gear, but I found myself teared up between so much choices. Because of my past experiences, I tend to favourites Nokton lenses. I idealize having whole set of them.

From last year I saved up enough from my videography to afford to buy Voigtlander 10.5 mm, 25 mm and 42.5 mm, with Panasonic G85 body (althought I would spend all of that money saved from videography from last year). For some time I worried that Voigt lens are not stabilized, but Pan G85 body is, so that is good. Idea of having whole Voigt set seems like perfect step up in my videography. Manual focus is still challenge for me, but with 17.5 mm I got used to it and even quite cherish it. What makes me confused are 3 things:

1) Thought of trying to get used to Panasonic lenses with not-so exclusive build quality keeps me from buying one. But I could buy used for 2 years, functional Panasonic Nocti 42.5 mm f/1.2 for 800 dollars, and use it for both videography and photography too (autofocus and stabilization), so it seems like no brainer, but I tend to cling to Voigt lens with my heart. And having whole set of Voigts would keep my "style" somehow unified maybe? If I would take photos with Voigts I would be probably frustrated (with moving objects)... on the other hand this way I could train manual focusing for my videos. So as you can see I am really confused with both options. For same money I could have new Voigt 42.5 mm (I live in Central Europe, so buying electronis from foreign countries is not possible due to high fees).

2) Second problem with buying almost whole set of Voigt lens (10.5, 25, 42.5 and Panasonic G85) is money. I can afford it, but man, it is a lot of money. Even worry of theft of my gear comes in mind. On the other hand, with possibility on reach, I would love to play with all those Voigt lenses in different situations for different purposes on upcoming projects/events...

3) I counted with Nokton 10.5 mm for purpose of using it in future on one of those new one-hand-gimbals, but althought I saw smooth videos of this combo, I saw bad review too (too heavy-front for some gimbals). Officialy weight-wise it is under norm though, so I would have just to try it first I guess...

What do you think? What would you do? What should I do? :-)

Thanks a lot for your answer.

Lenses for GH4 on Zhiyun Crane? https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/16576/lenses-for-gh4-on-zhiyun-crane Fri, 10 Mar 2017 15:48:26 +0000 IS2 16576@/talks/discussions Hi all,

I've been super on the fence between getting a Ronin M or a Zhiyun Crane. I think I'm leaning towards the crane because it's much more portable realistically enabling more shooting freedom.

I know I unfortunately won't be able to use my lovely Sigma 18-35mm due to the size, so was wondering - which lenses do you all use on your GH4/crane set up and for what scenarios?

Using GH4 + Shogun for commercial greenscreen production - Our experience https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/16580/using-gh4-shogun-for-commercial-greenscreen-production-our-experience Sat, 11 Mar 2017 00:50:21 +0000 Chris74 16580@/talks/discussions I am usually just consuming content on this excellent forum, so I thought it's time to give something back.

We just finished a commercial film production and thought I share some insights on why we have chosen to shoot this with the GH4. Our key requirements have been

  1. 10Bit 4k capability (greenscreen project!)
  2. Light weight (we had challeging camera angles and limited budget for rigging => e.g. birdeye shots with shitty rig)
  3. Long battery life (we didn't want to add external battery solutions => our rig had very low weight limitations)
  4. Problem free (e.g. no overheating)

So after long discussions choosing between Sony A7s II and GH4, we decided to use the latter one and I don't regret this decision.

We had a lot of challenges but they have not been regarding camera choice, more related to the customers corporate colors (yellow turning green in shadows) and lighting the massive greenscreen. The only real challenge on the GH4 for us was the shitty HDMI port but we solved that with adding a Zacuto Port Protector (without that, it would have been a nightmare!).

But judge for yourself, feedback welcome! (note: the project required massive effort in post production)

Gh2 noob easy hack https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/16530/gh2-noob-easy-hack Thu, 02 Mar 2017 05:08:16 +0000 Erlucios 16530@/talks/discussions Hi, I've just bought a gh2 at low price with a 14-42 only for video purpose. I need a simple hack that remove the time limit and that is reliable. I'm not searching for high bitrate, I like to use 1080 50p and 50mb because I send videos to local tv. Can someone suggest me a hack with this features? Or can someone suggest me how to hack the original firmware by Panasonic? I'm able to use ptool.
