Apocalypse Now 444 - 60s Commercial Promo | Comox Captivates https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/4510/apocalypse-now-444-60s-commercial-promo-comox-captivates Sat, 08 Sep 2012 13:19:19 +0000 pchristoph 4510@/talks/discussions
Hey guys! I was fortunate enough to be an early tester of Driftwoods Apocalypse Now using the beta version (C1) of cbrandons 444 matrix. (thanks Driftwood!) I was starting production on a 60sec promo in July and being a risk taker decided to deploy it into real work in the field. This promo is a small representation of the capabilities Apocalypse Now settings can give us. I used all vintage glass (takumar) and the 12mm hyper prime by Slr magic, Kessler pocket dolly, glidecam, and also shots on sticks. Put through the paces in static and motion shots, and pushed hard in CC in post. I had no need for spanning, making this a real winner for my style of commercial work. Music recorded using Logic 9. FCPX for post work. We have a great tool in the Gh2. It's seriously 'the little engine that could' Its own limitations are something to overcome with creativity. This is my second year making films and I want to encourage you all in this...that the limits of any camera cannot stop someone from creating great work. So load up, and head out! Cheers. Comments welcome.

GH2 & SLR Magic 12mm 1.6 (Both Barely Used) https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/4378/gh2-slr-magic-12mm-1.6-both-barely-used Sun, 26 Aug 2012 17:51:06 +0000 mikethelaw 4378@/talks/discussions Making way for my new Blackmagic Cinema Camera, selling my GH2 package, including SLR Magic 12mm. I bought everything in May & June of this year. Original invoices from B&H and Adorama to prove it. Barely used everything.

Let me know if you're interested. Thanks!

Panasonic GH2 in Original Box w/ Sandisc 64gb Extreme Pro, 95MB Read Speed and Sandisc 32gb Extreme Pro, 95MB Read Speed & .......$750 (plus shipping cost)

SLR Magic 12mm 1.6........$450 (plus shipping cost)

If you don't want the Sandisc Extreme Pro cards (the 64gb is the best SD card on the market that I know of) I can sell the GH2 for $650, but I'll sell the gh2 and the 2 memory cards for $750. I think the 64gb 95MB card sells for $135-$160 new and the 32gb sells for $70.

If you want the GH2, SLR Magic 12mm and the cards together I'll sell it all for $1,100...

PM if interested.

Black Magic: Is internal battery complete disaster or reliable solution? https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/3008/black-magic-is-internal-battery-complete-disaster-or-reliable-solution Wed, 25 Apr 2012 16:53:36 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 3008@/talks/discussions Look at the

http://www.mpoweruk.com/life.htm article

And also in PDF in attachment.

It is easy to see that heat does not help batteries.

As well as full charging (if you undercharge battery it'll live much longer and won't drop capacity so fast).

image

image

And it looks like in BM Cinema Camera we have both of this issues.
Battery is made small, so it is charged to full (hence it'll have very fast capacity drop) and it'll be made worse by temperature modes. Camera will make battery perform worse and battery in it's turn during charging will induce heat, and, hence, increased noise.

GH2 and the BMD HyperDeck Shuttle Record Problems https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/4230/gh2-and-the-bmd-hyperdeck-shuttle-record-problems Mon, 13 Aug 2012 11:01:20 +0000 questech 4230@/talks/discussions Hello All :-)

I have a BMD HyperDeck Shuttle 2 and it records uncompressed and in the DNxHD (220) codec.

I can import, play and edit the files just fine, but there's a major problem that makes the files useless.

Static scenes are fine except they are flat and require color correction to make them aesthetically acceptable.

The main problem is that the files have horrible interlacing problems... and I'll explain.

First of all, it doesn't matter whether I shoot in FSH, HBR, 24p or don't hit the camera record button at all and just record from the cleaned display... the same problem occurs, so it isn't a camera setting (I've spent 2 days experimenting with different cam settings as well).

When panning I get fine interlacing lines. They are annoying and unacceptable in their own right, but it gets worst. Once encoded (as in for distribution) the problem is accentuated. Huge lines appear and and make the video look horrible... it is unusable.

On close inspection of the files in PP CS6 I can see that the file is filled with ghost images, which I thought were a result of duplicate frames that the GH2 has served to the BMD Shuttle 2.

I've read about certain fixes for this and a the color shift issues, but a) most sound too difficult to be used in a practical workflow and at the end of the day, they may not even work.

So I'm here with hat in hand hoping that a discussion might yield some fruit that can help me, and others that are having the same problem or looking to use a Shuttle with their GH2s.

Update...

I said that extra frames were being added, well I read that recording from the GH2's HDMI port added and deleted frames randomly, and that clouded my judgment and made me lean in that direction, but upon closer inspection (I was going to experiment with manually removing the extra frames) I found that there are no extra frames per-say.

The ghosting I described is at the heart of the problem.

When panning each frame appears to be a combination of 2 frames at different times. So depending on the speed of the pan (and the shutter speed - the higher the SS the closer together is the dual images) you get an interlaced image (half of the lines) at one point in time, and another (the other half of the lines) at a later point in time.

Where they overlap, the image is solid, but on either side you have a "ghost" image which when played back you can see through the image where the missing lines are, thereby giving a notched edge effect.

And I haven't even wrapped my head around how I can fix that yet??

Thanks for your interest and feedback!!

Anthony

Searches yield no results, other than I need a 58-77mm step up ring to do this without vignetting. I can't be alone in this issue! I am constantly battling flares and lighting artifacts whenever the sun hits it. This is my glidecam lens and its becoming very problematic to shoot with. For instance, my T2i glidecam setup had a 17-50mm and has zero issues with flares. Is this more than a hood issue, could it be a lens coating issue?

BlackMagic: Power solutions https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/2995/blackmagic-power-solutions Tue, 24 Apr 2012 16:51:16 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 2995@/talks/discussions As we all know BM camera use internal battery, that, I think is bad design solution. So, for any real shooting you need external battery connected to power input. Most of this solutions will be using 12V output.

I'll be adding to this topic all suitable solutions that I know.

Some of our deal partners manufacture suitable solutions and I also hope to have them soon on deals in special kits aimed to future BM camera users.

Many friends tell me that there's not a huge difference between 500d and 550d, except for high-iso performance (>6400, but for video, who cares?); while t2i was very popular , t1i (500d) was not used by videographers because of its lack of manual controls and only 20 fps mode; however, now using Magic Lantern you can get manual controls, 24/25 fsp, focus peaking, HDR.. I' ve noticed that these "old" cameras are very cheapy (you can get used t1i bodies for only 250 €, while canon t2i costs at least 450€ ;) anyone has tested Canon 500d video quality improvements with Magic Lantern?

Both seems good glasses, the main use is video and film, photography as secundary, The examples indicate both are greats and cinematographic look. So, i like much use mi GH2 in the night, the luminosity is therefore a necessary condition for my.

Some people say the Panix is best, and argue the SLR is a CCTV overpriced, that argument isnt mine, so, for the tests, I think the SLR is wonderful and the price isnt excessive.

Actually I have a 14-42 its a regular lens, but is poor in low light condition and noisy in high ISO. A FD 50mm 1.8, superb, great look and softness, but have a limited angles.

I need objective opinions, thanks

Then I edit my project. when I'm happy I want to send it to after effects to add some motion stabilizer and magic bullet looks cause FCPX can't handle looks yet. Now should I export it full size?? ok then I get it in AE C5.5 (this time the file was 1,8 Gb). I do my things but its extremely slow cause of the big file.

then I export it again and put it in FCPX again to add music and then I export it to vimeo (this time the file is 10,5 Gb?????).

I feel I'm not doing the right thing files are huge and the computer is suffering :).

would be nice if you (or someone) could describe a step by step how to do it!]]>
