Newbie looking for lenses recommandations https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/11316/newbie-looking-for-lenses-recommandations Wed, 17 Sep 2014 15:50:41 +0000 monks19 11316@/talks/discussions Hi. I do some events filming with Lumix cameras (G6 & GH2) using Sigma (Nikon mounts) zoom lenses with RJ adapters. All lenses are at f2.8 max for speed and luminosity. I know that the lowest can go down to f1.4, but I havent been able, so far, to find zoom lenses like this, whatever the brand, especially at a good price (lower than 500 $, used or new).

Does any of you have any recommandations/suggestions on which zoom lenses (whatever the brand, as long as an m43 adapter is avalaible) I should get with my cams (and which adapters, if needed and unavalaible with the RJ m43 ones) ?

Thanks to answer.

Nikon F to m43 adapters https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/2492/nikon-f-to-m43-adapters Mon, 05 Mar 2012 15:57:31 +0000 WarrantyVoided 2492@/talks/discussions The go-to shop for good adapters, ciecio7, unfortunately does not list a Nikon F to MFT adapter. I did send some questions, but unfortunately I did not receive any answer. Apparently they do exist, Grue has one, but I can't sit and wait for years to come. I did consider getting some Canon to MFT, but this leaves the issue of a solid Nikon to Canon adapter, preferably one which allows to change aperture by means of a ring or so. (There do exist adapters with a confirm chip, but with the Canon to MFT this won't work anyway.)

Does somebody know another seller which offers the cheaper adapters, but has a solid check to deliver consistent adapters? I'd love to get an adapter with aperture control (manual of course) and a tripod mount.

I am wondering about the right decision in choosing an anamorphic option. There are so many, that have become rareties in some respect. There is the Panasonic AG-LA7200 16:9 Anamorphic Lens Adapter, which is average price is 1000 dollars. Than we have a Century Precision adapter, which is harder to find, but a cheaper pick-up, that seems to provide intense flares. Now we also have the endless array of anamorphic projector lenses, adapted with lens clamps and such, that some say is better, and some say not so much. These include Kowa(which do look pretty nice sporting a 2x Anamorphic, ranging from 100 bucks to over 700, Isco-Optic focusing ana proj lens, and the Sankyoscope anamorphot 1.5x including a +0.5 diopter, focus through, which I haven't found for less than 1000 dollars, and I'm not sure how much the diopter will assist me, but anyhow there are many more, which I'm sure most are aware of. I am just hoping to get a little more insight into what the best and most effective options are.

Thank you Kindly, -Trev

This is the one made and sold by Ciecio7 on ebay. I bought it from a nice guy on this website, but when I brought it home, I couldn't get it to work. The adapter connects perfectly to the camera, the lenses slide in smoothly, but the focus ring won't turn. Most likely I'm just having a brain fart and need to adjust one of the small screws on the adapter, so maybe this will be easy for you to do. So if you need one and are interested, I would suggest we meet locally so you can try it on your camera and lenses to make sure it works for you. I'm selling it for $120. I just recently wanted to buy a fisheye lens to filming skateboard videos, but I came across 2 different fisheyes :

  • The Rokinon 7.5mm f3.5 for Micro 4/3

Or

  • The Rokinon 8mm f2.8 for Sony E-mount (NEX-7, NEX-5, NEX-3...) + Adapter

The thing is I know the Rokinon for M4/3 is going to fit directly on my camera (tried it in a shop), but the Rokinon for Sony is much faster, but maybe a little less wide...

Can you please help me choose ?

Thank you.

RedRock LiveLens MFT adapter for Canon lenses https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/1009/redrock-livelens-mft-adapter-for-canon-lenses Thu, 22 Sep 2011 12:05:51 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 1009@/talks/discussions

The Redrock Micro LiveLens mft™ is the first active lens adapter that enables Canon EF lenses to be used with any micro four-thirds (mft) camera, such as the Panasonic AG-AF100, Panasonic GH1/2, and Olympus Pen cameras.

Canon EF lenses require power and electronic controls in order to adjust the lens’ aperture. Without power and control electronics, The aperture of the EF lenses are stuck wide open, severely limiting the usefulness of the lens. The Redrock LiveLens mft active lens adapter solves this problem by providing power to the EF lens and a control pad to adjust the lens aperture. With LiveLens mft you can set the EF lens' aperture to any stop in increments as small as 1/3 stop. It works with just about every lens available today, including variable aperture zoom lenses, prime lenses, consumer-level lenses, and professional L-series lenses. It also works with most third party EF-compatible lenses. There are some limitations to please make sure to read Technical Details.

Question about FOV and DOF in relation to M43 and metabones speedbooster https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6705/question-about-fov-and-dof-in-relation-to-m43-and-metabones-speedbooster Tue, 16 Apr 2013 07:11:12 +0000 andrevanberlo 6705@/talks/discussions I've seen a questions in the speedbooster topic and saw a similar question in a DPreview thread.

"Has anyone heard if there will be a Speed Booster for m43 LENSES on m43 bodies"

people say it can't be done because the m43 lens is built to cover a m43 sensor and this does seem logical. However (and i'm probably thinking way off here) the m43 has a cropfactor. FF does not. I always thought the FF lenses were so expensive because the entire lens has to be perfect as the entire image falls on the sensor. Where a lens designed for a cropfactor camera needs to be sharp mostly in center and not on the outside as that will not hit the sensor anyway.

So my thought was, if a GH3 has a cropfactor of about 2X, doesn't that mean that part of the total image is cropped? If so then i don't think that question for a m43-m43 speedbooster is such a strange question. As only part of the image actually hits the sensor.

So a speedbooster (i know, probably impossible) would then widen the FOV and increase DOF on m43 lenses and decrease the F-stop.

Off course there will be a lot of vignetting but still when i buy a 50mm lens for m43 that 50mm is what it would be on a full frame camera, we get a cropped version on the m43 camera but the full 50mm image has to be there for us to crop our image from.

In this video they do it the other way around: cropsensor-lens on FF camera

Could someone please explain where i'm wrong in my thinking?

Cine m43 lens set topic https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6323/cine-m43-lens-set-topic Mon, 04 Mar 2013 16:06:20 +0000 tjnavyblue 6323@/talks/discussions Hoping to start a useful thread on building a MFT lens set from scratch.

I thought this could be it's own topic, as I think there are more and more people in a similar scenario, whether as photographers moving over into video, DP's that want a run n' gun MFT setup for travel, or budget film makers. I (like many of you) have grandfathered a fairly random set of different mount primes into my MFT setup, but I thought it would be an interesting "what-if" to think about starting from scratch.

There are a lot of new lens options in the last year from some new guys - SLR Magic, Nokton and as well as some zooms from Pana - I'm really interested to see which of these are must-haves for you guys.

Parameters:

-Please keep suggestions to lenses that are available new, or used from a reputable seller (ie. I like/own vintage primes, but let's assume you need to be able to buy and expense this equipment through a corporate finance dept.)

-For budget, let's say you have $2500 - $3000. And you don't want to blow it all on one Leica.

-Let's assume you're using MFT because you're traveling and need a light, yet flexible kit - everything from two camera interviews mixed with lots of run and gun art-docu type shots (let's say you have something standard, like a couple of tripods, a small slider and a Steadicam arm/vest).

Given that - what are the three/four/five lenses you would buy for your set?

PS. In the spirit of keeping things short and readable, please do not list a bunch of lenses that you don't recommend and all your reasons for not recommending them.

Fotga Nikon G to m4/3 adapter https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6006/fotga-nikon-g-to-m43-adapter Mon, 04 Feb 2013 11:17:47 +0000 inqb8tr 6006@/talks/discussions I have bought this one on Dx for 20$ something, shipped from Hong Kong.

If you need any more details read on.

When I attached Tokina 11-16 to it, first thing I noticed is very tight fit, no wobble at all, between lens and adapter, and between adapter and GH2 as well. That is the only good thing about it.

Lens does not focus to infinity, actually it does not focus at all, somewhere in the middle the focus scale it does, but it is useless. Than I measured it and it is 0.8mm smaller than the Voigtlander Nikon F - m43/ that I have.

Then I tried to hack/fix the adapter. I have made some kind of nano washers, drilled tiny holes in pieces of metal around 0.5mm thick and inserted them on small screws in between lens mount ring and adapter body. That way I've increased flange distance to the point where lens could focus to infinity (and beyond :)).

But the small screw in the adapter that pushes the aperture lever of the lens now got 0.5mm above the lever, so I had to push something on that too to make it working.

After that I proudly attached the lens and gotten outside only to find out that I have enormous light leaks inside the adapter. The pin that holds Nikon lens has a HOLE to clear it's lever when pushing it. When the pin gets in the lens, hole gapes open. Great thing for lens whacking light leaks experiments.

Then I wrapped some velcro cable ties around, to prevent light from entering the adapter.

Aperture control ring on the adapter is off by few degrees, so it does not reach it's lock position at 'open' side. So i had to unscrew the lens from the adapter for few degrees to allow that ring to open the aperture all the way. So the lens does not click to the adapter, but that tight fit and cable ties hold it quite well.

Now it works.

What a waste of money and time.
