GH2 HDMI Monitoring https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/3269/gh2-hdmi-monitoring Sat, 19 May 2012 11:02:29 +0000 iamfoxman 3269@/talks/discussions So I'm trying to figure out why my hacked GH2 (basic hack with just the bit rate pushed to 42/35), seems to monitor perfectly via the HDMI cable during pause & recording. The issue I'm having is when I go to look back at the scene, I don't have playback control from my camera and thus can't look back at what was just shot without disconnecting the HDMI cable.

Does anyone know the fix for this?

Thanks

GH2 with Livestream for live webcasting? https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/1477/gh2-with-livestream-for-live-webcasting Thu, 17 Nov 2011 07:34:16 +0000 Blackout 1477@/talks/discussions
Procaster is free software on windows or mac and I use it for webcasting live events. I am thinking it could take the 1080 50i and deinterlace it and you could livestream at 25 progressive.

I am going to buy the blackmagic intensity and test it out..... http://www.blackmagic-design.com/products/intensity/

So do I need to hack the camera first or does it not matter?

Do I need to hit the record button or does it not matter?

Any help on this ASAP would be appreciated as I have the event Sunday. I have backups should the gh2 / blackmagic to laptop into procaster livetsream software not work.... but I would love for it to work.

I want to set up the gh2 with the 1.7 pancake lens for a wide live stream and the jump around with my gh13 for actual coverage. I'm still very new to the GH2 and make some boo boos where as I know every crevice of the gh13 like my ex girlfriend.

ps to give you an example of what is capable with livestream: this is a live broadcast in hd with webcams and the gh13 prerecorded footage cued and played live from a laptop:

pretty f-ing impressive.. make sure you full screen it.

Uncompressed recorder for cheap? https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5/uncompressed-recorder-for-cheap Tue, 12 Apr 2011 00:59:04 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 5@/talks/discussions Thing will be called HyperDeck Shuttle.

With $345 announced price.

BlackMagic recorder

Something tells me that selling old facioned cameras like AF100 for 200% profit will be tougher and tougher.

Bad thing is that BlackMagic is famous for paper announcments, like their H.264 recorder that had been postponed for almost a year.

Good thing is that making uncompressed recorder is not so complicated as proper H.264 encoder, contrary to common beliefs spreaded by camera manufacturers.

Modular cameras are real future.

Hacked GH2 24p patch - Does Live Hdmi Out Monitoring work? https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/1975/hacked-gh2-24p-patch-does-live-hdmi-out-monitoring-work Mon, 09 Jan 2012 19:02:14 +0000 Toronto 1975@/talks/discussions Hi, I have a hacked GH1 and like it because of the blackout-powel native 24p hack that allows the native 24p where I don't have to do any fiddling with pulldown bla bla stuff at all. Problem with GH1 is that I can't have HDMI live out monitoring, so it is almost impossible for me to keep eyes in focus with a manual lens since I can't make out details well enough on the lcd screen alone. I can setup the focus sharp using the focus assist zoom at first, but if someone moves a tiny bit after recording starts then the shot is basically no good to use. I am hoping the GH2 can help me with this but I have a question about it.

Q: If I get a GH2, and hack it with the GH2 version of the blackout-powell native 24p patch, can I hook up my hdmi computer monitor to it and be able to monitor the output live with that 24p patch installed (at 1080p)? I want the live HDMI out so that I can easily see when the focus goes out and be able to keep adjusting the manual lens as I look at the hdmi computer monitor while recording. My question is I don't know if after I hack the GH2 into 24p native if it will have a live HDMI monitoring feed that is useable direct into an hdmi computer monitor or not. I read that the output from the GH2 only works in 1080i mode, so from that I was thinking if I hack it and put on the 24p native patch the hdmi out may then not work, and that I may be forced to keep it in 1080i mode only if I want to get a live HDMI feed that works into a computer monitor while recording.

I hope everyone can advise me on this if you have tried what I am talking about and know what the results are. Since I don't yet have a GH2 I can't test this and don't want to buy one unless I know I can do this because I don't want to ever again work with anything except native 24p footage, and I don't ever want to work with any new camera that can't do that and give me a live 1080 output that I can use as a focus aid while recording, since the lcd is not sufficient to visually see well enough to focus at a professional level of exactness.

The live hdmi 1080 will probably work as i or p, as long as it is true 1080 out, since I am not recording the live output to a recorder, I just need it for a visual focus aid to magnify the image into a big computer monitor so I can get better focus whenever someone moves a bit out of focus.

Thanks very much.

Mac software to fix GH2 HDMI output https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/1716/mac-software-to-fix-gh2-hdmi-output- Mon, 12 Dec 2011 14:14:45 +0000 jeschot 1716@/talks/discussions The telecine method used to convert from 24p to 50i or 60i results in very irregular interlace patterns that defeat standard inverse telecine procedures.

The following cases need correction:
1. 24p output in NTSC mode (60i)
1. 24p output in PAL mode (50i)
3. 29.97i output as 30i (NTSC)

If there are more, let me know.

So far I have been able to deal with the 24p->50i case. If you have a Mac and a PAL camera download my software JES Deinterlacer (Mac only) and give it a try. You need the latest alpha (v3.8).
For the other two cases I need test files. One or two minutes of footage is enough. Just provide me with a download link.

Sony CLM V-55 Monitor https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/587/sony-clm-v-55-monitor Thu, 04 Aug 2011 15:40:15 +0000 marks 587@/talks/discussions Main purpose in buying was for my 2nd cam person. She had been having trouble focusing our FX1's and now with GH2's I was worried. I had looked at the offerings from Small HD and others but just couldn't get my head around the cost....especially since my primary goal was focus assist. When the Sony model came out I looked at it a while then finally decided to buy it. I got it from Amazon for $399....figuring I could return it if it was junk or keep it if it was nice. Turns out it was a little of both.
First thing to note is that it does not come with any means to power it. You're on your own. I went to Batteries Plus and bought a 3000 mAh battery and charger for about $50. I have run the monitor for as long as 4-5 hours and have not had it die. I haven't tested to see how long it will run.
It arrived the same day I had a dance recital so my first test was also a working test.
First thing I noticed as I was setting it up was the colors. They looked amazing on the monitor.....except for the reds. The stage curtains were that nice deep shade of red.....but on the monitor they were brown. No manner of adjustment could make them red. I spent an hour or more tinkering with it before giving up and adjusting it so all the colors but the reds looked good.
Peaking worked really well.....and there is also a pixel magnification function that zooms in on the picture to help with focus. I haven't really used that function as the peaking works very well.
The fold up lens hood is also nice. Works well in most outdoor situations....though if you get the sun to your back forget it. The screen is reflective so that is a small problem outdoors....but not a deal breaker.
After some reading on the internet concerning the reds, I decided to return it for a new one. The couple of reviews that were out seemed to not have a problem with the reds. One nice thing about the return was the price was now lower....$322.00!
The new one arrived and I had the opportunity to use it again at the same venue. The reds were MUCH better....though still slightly leaning towards brown. The consensus of those I have talked to seems to be that you can't expect perfection at that price.
All in all I am happy with it. My 2nd shooter doesn't have any problems with focus now, and that is the main reason I bought it. If you need critical color I don't think I would recommend it. If you need focus assist and just want to have something bigger to look at then it works.
Would I buy one again?? Matter of fact I did. I liked it so much I bought another for my cam.

I use live view on it and its not working for pal, only ntsc. Problem is that no mather whad mode i wish to record the video is always 1080/60i. I tried to set it to 720p, switched on the hdmi for liveview and recorded. Checked the file info and it was 1080i/60.
If i go movie mode i get 1080p/24.

Is there any way that i can use live view and still record 720p. And i saw like 3 posts that said this is not true that hdmi out and recording are not connected but belive me its true. When u plug in the hdmi, the setting for 1080i or 720 are not awalible.

Is there any chance to see something near RAW quality via HDMI link in the future ?

Does any of you know a HDMI onboard monitor with a setting to desqueeze the anamorphic picture to proper 1:2.35 format for viewing?

I know the Zacuto EVF can do this. But is there a cheaper option?

I will be happy about any hints.
