I am planning to go for Used Canon 70-200 f4 lens. I have 2 offers for sale for the IS USM and the non IS version of the lens. Except the IS bit, what are the other differences between these two lenses? (Construction, Element quality, Element coating quality etc.) I think i can still live without an IS as i use my GH2 for videos and it will be strapped on a tripod.

Any guidance is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

I asked him to shine the lens through with a flashlight and it has this dust inside the lens which you can see in the pic. Can anyone here who has a good understanding of this check it out and suggest if the level of dust seen in the pic is fine for me to go ahead and wont hamper the image quality.

I have the SLR Magic 12mm lens with me which is a 24mm equiv on the GH2 and will be 28mm on the GH4 in 4K mode. The samyang with the SB will be wider (14mm on the GH2 with SB & 16mm on the GH4 in 4K mode and will be a F2).

Which out of the 2 is the better lens? I have the option of selling the SLR Magic to a film maker i know and the Samyang costs roundabout the same as what i am selling the 12mm for.

Kindly advice.

P.S- I have been recommended to go for the Samyang compared to a Tokina 11-16mm (EF) as they said It's sharper and has better CA control. Views on this.

I bought this a year or two ago as I was using my GH2 and assembling all my gear but have now upgrading to the GH4. Lots of threaded holes and cut outs for the doors. I wish this cage fit my Gh4 but it doesn't. All threads are in good shape. Aluminum on the Tripod mounting screw show wear at the base turn but threads fine. Wear on that screw hole is from screwing on and off my tripod and mounts occasionally. Looking for 350 shipped. I will ship priority USPS insured domestically. Payment can be paypal or USPS money order. Can ship international but cost will be increased.

I don't have feedback on this forum but I can link to other forums feedback, ebay feedback or my e commerce site. Panasonic GH2 not recognizing SD card https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/12875/panasonic-gh2-not-recognizing-sd-card Sun, 26 Apr 2015 14:52:11 +0000 ilia310101 12875@/talks/discussions So, I have a problem, and that is that my GH2 will not recognize that there is a card inside of it, no matter what I do. I have tried about 10 different sd cards, ranging from good to bad and small to big. Nothing works. I have even tried licking the card.

Can this possibly be fixed without disassembling the camera, or would it have to be taken apart to be fixed? and if it does have to be taken apart would I end up having to replace the whole main board?

I am incredibly sad about my GH2, so any advice would make me happy. Thanks;)

p.s I will probably only be able to reply tomorrow as it's almost late now.

In all the excitement with the GH3 (some 1200 replies in 5 days here only ) I wanted to start a new discussion, because I feel we (or at least some of us) have to face the reality. Should we buy the GH3 or start filming again with a camera that is made for it ?!

I have the GH2 for 2 years, have 3 different lenses and tried several hacks, I bought the Tascam DR-40 for sound (and other stuff). I needed a rig to hold everything, and now it looks stupid. If you are not doing fiction, (always) filming on a tripod, or in a studio and you also want to be fast and flexible (which is often necessary) it just doesn't work! (for me ;-)

Therefore I am considering a 'normal' video camera again. But which one? Next month the AG-AC90 will be available for only € 1800,= . I got it yesterday to try it out for 1 day. As there is no information (or footage) about the camera, I wanted to do some video comparison.

I compare footage of the AC90 with the GH2 (As we do not have the GH3 yet, but I don't expect it to be a miracle anyway ;-). It was not my intention to make good shots, but to put both cameras in 'hard' circumstances, such as high contrast, back light, movement, moire, rolling shutter effects etc. I did different tests and tried to keep equal settings, same shooting moments and movements, tripod / handheld, slow motion, rack focus / auto focus, daylight / low-light / dark, menu / settings. I only had the camera for a day (without a manual), so I don't know it well. Most images in standard settings were a bit too bright (but this can be adjusted in the camera).

The AC90 has a smaller sensor so less DOF (but in daylight can be achieved with a ND filter.) I didn't have one during testing (but I did use a ND in some shots with the GH2, so that is not a fair comparison). I expected the AC90 to do worse in lowlight but I am actually quite surprised!

The video is definitely not a 'scientific' pixel tweaking test. I know little about how to test GOP, I / P/ B structure, 4:4:2, peaking, dynamic range, AVCHD profiles, etc. But you guys do! @Vitaly_Kiselev @Driftwood @Ralph_B @cbrandin and others ?! I can put some original files online for some deeper analyses. What can you tell about the footage? GOP, I/P/B, etc? Is it hackable (or worth hacking ;-) to give it a bit more Mbs? etc?

I hope to open up the discussion (from the large sensor cameras such as the GH3) and look forward to hear everybody's opinion!

Ps1 Some shots in the end are only with the AC90 because it was too dark for the GH2 (with the 14-140 mm lens)

Ps2 I know YouTube is not good, but I also think it is only showing HD 25P as I rendered it 50P (and the orginal looks better and more smooth)

Ps3 Sorry for the stupid music (without sound was even more boring)

GH2 > GH1 > GF2 > G2 > GF1.

Is that correct?

For now I must thank you all. The Hack was a good reason not to take the Canon (rebel) way, no regret here ;) I've compiled 3 years of various shooting made with our creative collective, I will be glad to know your personals views on this :
. I'd like to say that a GH4 is VERY tempting, however I chose to invest in glass, small rigs acessories etc. Not much money left so no excuse for GAS :D Force me to prep more my shots (GH2 is not very forgiving in post for heavy grading, even with the hack).

So... Cya, videographers !

Been away for a long time having a blast shooting all sorts of wild things and acting directing. I thought I would share this little clip (to show off my new car ** cough ** I mean spaceship) and also show 60fps vs 30 fps vs 24fps in the same shot.

24p film look vs 60p live look in ONE file so you can see the psychological effect. You'll need to DOWNLOAD and play (only 1280 x 720p sorry full 1920 x 1080p was too big. This switches in REAL time between the two in the same shot so you can really feel out the difference. I prefer 24p for narrative story telling and 60p for POV horror or news live look or 3D holographic shooting which I have been doing lately (not with the gh2 - using modded sony 3D pro cam, consumer ts10, and red epic for that). Note: this will only stream at 30p online (i really dislike 30p) you must download and play to see what I am talking about, No current online streaming service that I know of except for LIVESTREAM currently supports 60i or 60p streaming. I HAVE done it with livestream on my site which is astounding WHEN it works but it is still a little unreliable as of yet you need a business class hard wired ethernet cable and black magic card and an upstream of at least 20mbit down 5 megabit up CONSTANT. 1.5 won't do. Wifi won't do even dual band it gets blips. I can do 848 x 480 and sometimes 1280 x 720p live with a 4G card.

Enjoy... hope everyone is well...let me know what you think.....more to come!

Exactly what are GH2 hacks? https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/12673/exactly-what-are-gh2-hacks Thu, 26 Mar 2015 07:31:03 +0000 Fieel 12673@/talks/discussions I've been practicing with my GH2 for some weeks now, this is my first serious camera. I've always filmed with a Gopro but i never had money for a serious camera, after asking in many forums i decided to buy an used GH2, and people suggested me to hack it.

Now i feel like i want to hack it, but i have no idea what it is, how it works or what are the differences between all the hacks around here. There are a lot and i have no idea what changes between them. I've been following this guide: http://www.movingpicturetv.com/gh2-hack/ and even if it is idiot proof i still have some questions!

It asks me to download the original firmware and links directly to a download. I'm worried it might be dated? The guide is 3 years old.

It tells me to choose the patch i want, and links the "most popular one": http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/1375/ptool-v3.63d-topic/p1?Sort=newest[2]

Isn't it outdated, too? I mean, i know nothing about different patches and i don't know which one i should choose, can someone help me? How am i supposed to choose the one i want if i don't even know the peculiarities?

At some point is asks me to "Format an SD card in your GH2." . How am i supposed to format it in my GH2...? The only way i'd do this is by formatting the card on my PC and then inserting it on the camera.

I have so many doubts.

Diagonal rain appears using GH2 + Premiere Pro CS6 without a hack https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6094/diagonal-rain-appears-using-gh2-premiere-pro-cs6-without-a-hack Mon, 11 Feb 2013 19:53:46 +0000 PeterParkorr 6094@/talks/discussions Hi,

I've been trying to work out why exporting some noisy low light footage in premiere pro CS6 is giving me 'diagonal rain' problems that aren't present in the original m2ts files from my GH2.

Reading two similar topics (below) the problem seems to be related to GOP length, which hack is being used, and the decoding abilities of certain players. But I shot this footage with the original firmware so this can't apply? Possibly it is a CS6 specific issue?

http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5120/please-help-problem-with-my-gh2-footage/p1 http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/3804/strange-pulsing-diagonal-pattern-in-gh2-hack-footage/p1

It's not footage I can take again so any advice on how to export this without the noise would be amazing... I'm a beginner but not posted it there as the problem seems to be a complicated one.

I just uploaded the start of my edit to youtube for an example of the problem. Some of my footage was 24p and some was 50 fps 720p but the problem persists in all the export formats I've tried;

My Film "Blind" and the experience! https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/12300/my-film-blind-and-the-experience Mon, 02 Feb 2015 08:18:52 +0000 Gardner 12300@/talks/discussions Hi guys, just wanted to showcase the film I've been working on. It first started off as a feature length project, but after decisions were made later, we decided to make it into a feature short film (that's for another discussion). The project in itself took about 5 months to complete due to various reasons, most of them being out of my control, but I ended up handling all of the post production for the film. While I don't encourage people to use this motto in filmmaking, I told myself that if you want it done right then you have to do it yourself. After failing to find an appropriate composer for the film, I decided to score the film myself which meant learning audio. We also originally wanted two editors on the project and found an amazing editor who was local, but of course he got tied up with projects and that plan fell through.

All in all, I was the "Jack of All Trades" for the film, and due to the fact that I'm an avid procrastinator, it was a very tedious process. By far any attention or advice I've gotten has been from the personal-view forums, so of course this film was shot entirely with the GH2, aside from about 2 scenes, and I wanted to update the people who I spoke with consistently on the site about the project. The project is now finished and we released it on IndieReign.com alongside a brand new trailer for the film! Though I'm terrible at taking constructive criticism (all filmmakers are), I wanted to share the trailer with everyone on the personal-view site regardless, I mean after all we all don't just get crew and actors together just to film a personal home movie to lock in a vault!

I'm currently back to writing a new project but I plan on putting together a few youtube tutorial videos focusing mainly on how I scored the film, went about color grading the film itself, and how I went about with the pre-production of the film (casting calls, paperwork, shot lists, scheduling). I hope you guys enjoy the trailer for the film and thank you for the ones who read all of this before actually watching the trailer!

I have decided to make DIY product for Universal DC converter. This unit will allow use of any power source 3-30v as input and max output current will be 2A. The unit consists of voltage converter that gives you adjustable output for example GH2, GH3 8.4 V or any other equipment that is sensitive and requires exact voltage.

Consider this unit as a protection "Layer" between your DSLR and any power unit.

I know there are many ready power solutions already out on the market, but many still struggle and burn/brick their expensive equipment trying different alternative powering sources.

I decided to take my time and make this DIY product as a test but if there is an interest might get as batch production.

The unit will cost a $75 USD + postage (P-V members price). More than 65% of the price to buying needed components the rest a small compensation for research, drill and soldering :-)

For EACH UNIQUE SALE (per member) I will contribute a $10 USD to support P-V !

Found this lens in a thrift shop https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/12449/found-this-lens-in-a-thrift-shop Mon, 23 Feb 2015 22:30:59 +0000 MBlue 12449@/talks/discussions I need some help figuring out how to use this lens I found in a thrift shop. I've been lurking around this forum for a couple weeks and you guys seem like the friendliest most knowledgeable group so I figured I'd give you a shot.

I'm pretty new to m43 photography, and digital in general. My last camera was a Minolta X370. I just went out and bought a used GH2 and an adapter for my old MD mount 50mm f1.7, but I've been wanting more lenses so I was cruising local thrift shops and I came across something that looked like an anamorphic lens. I bought it without thinking (it was pretty cheap) but now I have no idea how to use it.

It says "SANKOR ANAMO-PRIME LENS f=95mm-3.74in Japan" on the side in blue letters. I googled that and apparently there are a million just like it on ebay, but no reviews, camera tests, stats, nothing. It looks kinda like this:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sankor-Anamo-Prime-Anamorphic-f-95mm-3-74-in-Theater-Proector-Lens-/271743605595?nma=true&si=Vg%252BTHgfPDrHc8kswmEhylSSwtXA%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

Except its a little more beat up.

I've read about mounting anamorphics with a taking lens and focusing both of them to the same distance, but that doesn't seem to be working for this one, or at least not with me hand holding it against my 50mm. It only cost $30, but after buying the GH2 I'm pretty broke and now I'm scared I threw away what money I had left on a shitty, unpopular lens I can't use.

Does anyone know anything about this lens?

My latest project - Norfolk Island shot from Drone, Land and Jetski https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/12334/my-latest-project-norfolk-island-shot-from-drone-land-and-jetski Sat, 07 Feb 2015 14:21:26 +0000 Rambo 12334@/talks/discussions I shot the jetski and Land footage, the Phantom with HD3+ and the Inspire Drone footage was piloted by a friend of mine. The 4k from the tiny Inspire camera is stunning. I had to defisheye the Gopro footage to make it match the Inspire clips which has no deformity at the horizon. I must say the phantom and gopro did a fantastic job ( 90% of the clips are Gopro Phantom)

All other cameras were GH1 and GH2 with LPowell hacks. Interviews and voice over were Cheap lav with Zoom H1 or the Video Mic Pro plugged into the GH2 with Pasadena Audio Hack Lenses were the ever reliable old Panny 14-140 and Pancake 20mm.

V-lock Solution https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/7597/v-lock-solution Thu, 25 Jul 2013 05:59:32 +0000 Jon2323 7597@/talks/discussions Hi, I'm looking for a v-lock battery solution, to power GH2 / TVlogic 5.6 external monitor etc.

Does anyone have any recommendations please? I've found these two:

Lanparte http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lanparte-V-Lock-Battery-Pinch-Power-Distributor-HDMI-Splitter-for-DSLR-RIG-/161071666608?pt=UK_Tripods_Heads_Stablisers&hash=item25809e95b0

Tilta http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Tilta-V-Mount-Battery-15MM-Plate-Power-Supply-For-BMCC-BlackMagic-Camera-/281139018655?pt=UK_Camera_Batteries&hash=item417530fb9f

I'm assuming the monitor would be powered from the Dtap, and camera from the DC out 12v?

Cheers Jon

Panasonic Lumix gh2 - continuous motion picture patch https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/9939/panasonic-lumix-gh2-continuous-motion-picture-patch Fri, 21 Mar 2014 14:14:45 +0000 Norway 9939@/talks/discussions Is there a patch that makes the camera to record motion picture continuously?

I, living in Norway, can only record for 29min 59sec. (This limit is an EU law has this restriction as it is a still picture camera and not a motion picture camera. Different taxes).
