GH6 and Varicam GH camera https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/13464/gh6-and-varicam-gh-camera Sun, 26 Jul 2015 21:11:56 +0000 endotoxic 13464@/talks/discussions There is a rumor that a panasonic representative from my country told me.

There will be no GH5. It will be called GH6 and it will have all the full sensor redout, and 10bit internal but only on 1080p they said.

Then the other new camera will be a new GH series of camera with super 35mm sensor the varicam one. It will be expensive, but will be video orientend machine. The price of both cameras where not dislosed.

I have and idea that GH6 will be arround $1500. And the varicam GH camera arround $4500 to $5000.

From my point of view, i think ill pay arround 5k for such compact camera with the varicam sensor. And about GH6 it sounds like a winner, bummer its not 4k 10 bit internal, but sounds like a progress.

How would you design the next Panasonic GH camera? https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/11649/how-would-you-design-the-next-panasonic-gh-camera Mon, 27 Oct 2014 06:34:09 +0000 driftwood 11649@/talks/discussions If you could design the body outline of a new Panasonic GH camera what would it look like?

Would it look like the current GH4, or more like the shape of a Canon C300? Would it incorporate the features of the YAGH? Must it be useable for both video and photography? Where would you put the functional buttons, the battery, main shutter/record switches, external outputs for HDMI, audio; where would you place the LCD/s? the evf? Battery? What features would be included on the body?

All in all what would it look like? I'm sure Panasonic would be interested to know. Please show any kind of artwork, scribbles, CAD designs, wireframe outlines, together with discussion below;-

P.S. It is pure Nick initiative, I or PV does not support it. We really like collaboration with Panasonic, but on different thing and of different kind. VK.

TRAP (2013) - MY SHORT FILM I DID LAST YEAR (Shot on GH2) https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/10406/trap-2013-my-short-film-i-did-last-year-shot-on-gh2 Mon, 19 May 2014 11:31:30 +0000 boriginal 10406@/talks/discussions Trap by Brian Mendez explores religion and beliefs, the prison system, and consumerism. Through the depiction of three different yet interrelated character studies, the filmmaker challenges viewers to reflect on their own decision making process and how societal influences may dictate one’s own state of being, one’s own reality.

This short film was shot on a hack GH2 during my last semester of undergrad film school.

If you like the version on top, watch this, the unseen version.

Advice for correcting white background shot with 20mm pancake at f1.8 https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5781/advice-for-correcting-white-background-shot-with-20mm-pancake-at-f1.8 Mon, 14 Jan 2013 23:58:31 +0000 Rambo 5781@/talks/discussions Yep, I got caught without a good lighting setup in a studio and shot a clip with GH2 and 20mm pancake at f1.8. The clip is of a white and red machine with an actor onboard. The background is a white wall and the combination of the lens at 1.8 and and uneven lighting resulted in a graduated vignette effect (getting darker further from the centre) I guess the pancake has a fair bit of light falloff at that aperture.

I've applied a grad exposure from two sides with Magic bullets and a general lift in exposure and Neat video. This results in banding, washout out colours and the white subject parts disappearing into the white background.

I bounced a very bright tungsten light off the ceiling as that's all that was available in the studio.

Any ideas please.

My cinematography showreel (a lot of GH2 stuff in there). https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/2240/my-cinematography-showreel-a-lot-of-gh2-stuff-in-there. Fri, 10 Feb 2012 10:33:30 +0000 Gabel 2240@/talks/discussions I hope I don't get warned for blatant self-advertising, but I just wanted to share my shoowreel here, there's some GH2 stuff in there (some of it hacked, one shot in the HBR mode). Here's a breakdown: First shot, done with HBR mode and Lomo OCT-19 primes 0:26 Driftwood GOP-3 with Nikon AI primes

0:37 HBR with Lomos

0:48 Cbrandin 66mbit with Lomos

0:56 HBR with Lomos

01:02 Cbrandin 66mbit with Lomos

01:03 Driftwood GOP-3 with Nikon AIs

01:11 HBR with Lomos

01:18 Stock AVCHD with Nikon AIs

01:37 Driftwood GOP-3 with Nikon AIs

01:40 Cbrandin 66mbit with Lomos

01:42 HBR with Lomos

01:55 Driftwood GOP-3 with Nikon AIs

02:04 HBR with Lomos

02:14 HBR with Lomos

(sorry for the double spacing, but otherwise it would all just fall behind each other)

This really shows what an amazing camera the GH2 is! Even unhacked it looks amazing (I think what I got with HBR looks the best to me, but that has more to with my work).

There's also some anamorphic stuff in there, done with my generic anamorphic on an AF100 with a Nikon AI 35mm (third shot, you'll recognize the rest)

And if you like, feel free to check in my site or like me on Facebook!

Filmmode Settings Tests: detail handling, color shift, exposure, etc. https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/1248/filmmode-settings-tests-detail-handling-color-shift-exposure-etc. Sat, 22 Oct 2011 16:48:09 +0000 qwerty123 1248@/talks/discussions
So here's one thread to start that. If you look at the pictures attached, there are four blown up frame grabs (from video, not still). They are: Standard, Cinema, Nostalgic, and Smooth. These all have the same white balance setting, shot with same lens, aperature, shutter speed, and lighting (a practical floor lamp). The picture profile settings are at 0 for everything except sharpening which is -2. This is pre-hack.

There are few noticeable things.

One thing in particular stood out to me, which I don't think people talk about. Look at how highlight and midtone *DETAIL* is handled on mode.

1. Cinema captures more highlight detail than the other settings--the wall on cinema has detail that was actually there, whereas in the other modes there are patches of white mixed with wall detail. These patches aren't blown out highlights!

2. At the same time Cinema captures midtone detail pretty poorly relative to the others. To see this, on the phone jack panel to the left of the phone jack. There are smears there in nostalgic especially that were present, but that cinema doesn't capture.

3. Nostaligic also has a pretty bad color shit to yellow (with a touch of shift to red) as you can confirm by a waveform.

4. Finally, it's worth noting that to achieve comparable exposures in each profile, one might need to allow for a bit more light in cinema and a bit less light in nostalgic.

Thoughts?

I've also been curious about what @cbrandin has been up to with his film mode research (or whether that's petered out).

EDIT: color shit = color shift :p]]>
