I have used PTool to “upgrade” my GH2 since the first version supporting GH2 came out. My favorite settings have been cbrandin 44 and 66, and they still works, but actually I have found that simple “settings for end users” in current PTool also works very well for settings that is not as extreme as many of the “expert” tester and developers settings like @cbrandin, @driftwood, @LPowell and others.

I have found a gap between stock and extreme settings in the forums for us interested in an enhanced GF3. In current version of PTool 3.65d @vitaliy_kiselev in the background of the tool have built in the experience from the testing by the core team so when we end users are using “settings for end users” a lot happens in the background. I have tested a number of different settings only using “settings for end users” with bit rates spanning between 24 and 66 mbits and stock GOP’s of 12/15 as well as 6 and 3. When doing this I have adopted cbrandin’s method of using a multiple of stock bitrates.

With this Topic I encourage people like me to discuss and disclose basic settings in between stock and “extreme”. I start to include three different settings, one stock GOP, one GOP6 and one GOP3.

Hello, i want to buy another Lens for low light conditions for my Lumix GF3. Currently i have the standard "Panasonic 14 - 42 mm / F 3,5 - 5,6 " I know there is the "Panasonic 20 mm / F 1,7 Pancake" but its quite expensive (~250€ on ebay) , so i wonder if there is any cheaper alternative? I think it can also be another connector (with m4/3 adapter) as long as the autofocus works. Thank you!

Hey everyone I have a quick question. I have seen videos online with the Lumix GF3 hacked. I have found out how to hack the gh2 and gf2 but I can't figure the gf3 out. Also when I'm at No adverse effects I cant download the links it only give me the PNG options. First things first has anyone done the firmware hack on the GF3 ?? If so please help.

I've got a GH2 as A cam and just recieved a GF3 as B cam that I'm using for skateboard filming and would like any suggestion to hack the GF3 for best motion and being fully stable cam (span etc) and GH2 for best shoots (I've tested MOON and looks great). Is GF3 hacking like GH2 hacking (same flow)? And can you use the same patches on both? THANKS.

Just purchased a secondhand GF3 that I will be using for aerial photography. Need to add a remote trigger function. Before I go down the route of having a micro servo physically pressing the trigger button, I would like to see if these software modifications offer intervalometer functionality. Tried searching but could not find anything.

Hello all, as, looking to a multiple number of posts, I haven't found an answer, I look for an answer.
Meaning, technically, what would take to have the gh2 encoding in AVCHDintra 10bit?
Does the camera lack of processor juice? Is it too complex programming wise? All of these combined? Developers need more supports?
And please no aswer like "Ask Santa for next Christmas" or similar.

GF3 Live HDMI output?

I have a GF3 which I am using occasionally for transfer of old 8mm and 9.5mm films, rigged together with a projector through a "custom-tinkered" combination of lenses to project the tiny film frame on the GF3 sensor. I find the "pseudo-live" video output very useful because it helps focusing and adjusting the image a lot if you can watch on a full-size monitor. But as you know, the A/V output is switched off the moment I turn video recording on, and on the small GF3 monitor I often won't notice when the film slips slightly out-of-focus due to mechanical problems, or a hair or other bit of debris gets stuck in the picture area during projection. Now I don't have HDMI input facility at hand, so could someone with a HDMI monitor and a GF3 please check if the video output via HDMI stays on during recording? I've googled and used the search function here, but couldn't find anything definitive enough to make me buy a HDMI converter or new monitor for the purpose. If "live HDMI out" depends on the firmware version or on certain hacks being installed, I'd appreciate clear instructions as to what I need. I have little spare time to re-invent the wheel and try out everything available in the hope that something will work.... Thank you!

Hello. According to the version history gf3 and g3 are almost identical to gh2. So I have a question: do they live hdmi out while video recording? Or does some other bodies maybe? Thanks in advance.

This is a bit of a weird post. I have a small army of GH2s and completely love them. I run them all hacked and use on every paid gig. However, I am going to purchase the Panny X 14-42mm lens for an upcoming concert (not a paid gig, just one I am attending) and noticed that for a few hundred above the cost of the lens, I could get the 14-42mm WITH a GF3/5 or GX1! THEN, I noticed the GX1 is supported by the hack..

Do you all have an opinion on a nice SMALL M43 camera supported by the hack? This would likely be a B camera on future shoots, and would be a great travel/family camera. The GX1 looks nice. If the hack allows me to get great footage and manual app controls over filming, then I would be THRILLED!

Any feedback is GREATLY appreciated. I love my hacked GH2s... Vitality has done amazing work.

Hi. I do own a Gh3 and am thinking about another little camera as a backup.

So possibly the GF5 or GF3 or GX1.

I do not need the viewfinder or hotshoe... GF3 and GX1 are hacked...but GF5 not...

Any ideas when using them 50/50 for photo and video?

Hello. I am selling the GF3 body with two batteries, one original and one from ebay which is showing power meter on screen (Yes!) in the original box plus a car charger. I bought it from the member @Kong brand new before almost three months and i used it for backup solution only, so i have record only 10-15 hours video. I use the SANITY 5 hack on it with no problem! Price 160 euros + shipping. The reason for selling it, is because i want to buy FZ200 !!! PS My location is Greece!

EP2 / EPL2 short films vs GF1/2/3

I like very much Panasonic GF line, however it's a shame that it's very hard to find short films made with these little camera. This is due to the fact that a Panasonic user prefers to shoot with a GH1/GH2 camera, great video quality indeed. However I am very interested in "compact"and cheapy m43 cameras like GF cams since I love shooting in extreme situations. I have discovered that many young filmmakers have used Olympus PEN in their projects: this is often due to the fact that because Olympus promotes every year 72/48 hour film contest...I was suspiscious at first, however when I've seen some short film realized with PEN ep2 , epl2 etc.. I realized that these cameras could be a good option for "street" and cheap projects...even if the video quality is no doubt worser than gf2 camera, I got the impression that overall quality of PEN, thanks to IS body, is better..

Will we ever see a hack for this? Is it feasable? Is there some way of loading part of the GH2 firmware on to a GF2 or 3? (yes, I just oversimplified to an annoying extent most likley :p)

I really wish there was a way to completely lock all exposure controls while shooting video on these little cameras. Is there anything on horizon or techniques for an exposure lock while shooting with the GF 2 or 3? This auto ISO is giving me a headache.

I have seen lots of topics dealing with cheapy (and fast) cctv lens, c-mount lenses on Panasonic GH1/2. Vignetting is a serious issue on these lenses, in particular for wide angles; many videomakers on GHx use ETC; However, most of the problems of vignetting seems to be caused by the non-standard size (16/9 crop etc) of GHx-sensor, which is a little wider than standar M4/3; GF2/3 cameras, on the contrary, have standard M4/3 sensor, so these cameras shoud have less vignetting issue... What's your experience with GF1/2 and C-mount?

for example, here you can read an article about wide and fast c-mount lenses..they work better on GF series!
