The new DMC-G5 features a 3-inch fold out screen and a top of the line 16-megapixel sensor powered by Panasonic's Venus Engine VII.

G5 is capable of things like full HD video recording and capturing images up to 12,800 ISO.

Also it looks like we have power zoom control near shutter :-)

Specifications:

  • 16Mp sensor (18.3 megapixels total!)
  • 6fps burst
  • 1.44Mp viewfinder
  • 1080p50/1080p60 video recording (28Mp)
  • Additional control lever. Control lever behind the shutter button which controls the power zoom on compatible lenses. Alternatively it can be configured to operate exposure compensation or aperture in M-mode.
  • Higher-resolution 920,000 dot rear LCD
  • Regains the eye-sensor to automatically switch between LCD and electronic viewfinder.
  • 'Touchpad AF'. It allows you to move the AF area across the frame with your finger on the LCD while you're framing the shot through the EVF.
  • The newly added Electronic Shutter mode allows silent operation which is helpful in areas where silence is needed
  • The Extra Tele Conversion function extends zoom range Max 4.8x without deterioration of image quality.

After reading a litany of small but pesky issues with the GH3, I decided to pass on it. So, I could get a time proven GH2 now for only $649 w/o any of the GH3's known issues, or else get the new G5. Not sure if the G5 has same quality hacks for video as the GH2 does? There is also an Lumix LX7, there must be a list someplace that shows all the camera makes and models for which we can find a firmware here, right?

Also, where to see a list of presently available firmwares for either camera, and how can one decide which one to use? Is there like a "10 best" list someplace? Thanks a bunch, ladies & gents.
