US: Soon in green https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6768/us-soon-in-green Mon, 22 Apr 2013 00:07:31 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 6768@/talks/discussions

The US economy will officially become 3 per cent bigger in July as part of a shake-up that will see government statistics take into account 21st century components such as film royalties and spending on research and development.

Billions of dollars of intangible assets will enter the gross domestic product of the world’s largest economy in a revision aimed at capturing the changing nature of US output.

Brent Moulton, who manages the national accounts at the Bureau of Economic Analysis, told the Financial Times that the update was the biggest since computer software was added to the accounts in 1999.

“We are carrying these major changes all the way back in time – which for us means to 1929 – so we are essentially rewriting economic history,” said Mr Moulton.

GDP will now include:

  1. Research & Development
  2. Artistic Originals
  3. Pension Accounting among other items

The slave who is aware of his slavish condition and fights it is a revolutionary. The slave who is not aware of his slavish condition and vegetates in silent, unenlightened, and wordless slavery, is just a slave. The slave who drools when smugly describing the delights of slavish existence and who goes into ecstasies over his good and kind master is a grovelling boor. You do not realise that instead of turning the slave into a revolutionary you are turning slaves into grovellers. All your talk about freedom and democracy is sheer claptrap, parrot phrases, fashionable twaddle, or hypocrisy. It is just a painted signboard. And you yourselves are whited sepulchres. You are mean-spirited boors, and your education, culture, and enlightenment are only a species of thoroughgoing prostitution. For you are selling your souls, and you are selling them not through need, but for “love of the thing”.

Short "Coincidences" (shot with GH3 & various primes) https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5861/short-coincidences-shot-with-gh3-various-primes Mon, 21 Jan 2013 17:19:04 +0000 Meierhans 5861@/talks/discussions

This was our fun winter project, its in german (no subs), but one can get the meaning anyways I guess. ;-)

Technical details

Camera:

  • GH3 (unhacked since no hacks available itm)

Lenses:

  • 12mm 1.6 SLR Magic (should not have passed quality control at SLR Magic as you might see)
  • 25mm 0.95 Nokton
  • 35mm 1.4 Samyang
  • 40mm 1.8 Hexanon
  • 50mm 1.7 Pentax K
  • 85mm 1.4 Samyang (what a nice portrait lens for this money!)

Post:

  • Premiere
  • After Effects
  • bunch of plugins
  • bunch of people
  • a little time

Additonal Comments: The GH3 is a nice little cam and dids its job very well. I did not really recognize the difference in latitude, but had no direct comparision anyways. Moire did hit us once pretty hard. Until its hacked I prefer GH2 since 72 Mbit is just not enough for Intra.

Any kind of feedback is very welcome.

(edit: Markup preview and final view if completly different!)

About forums https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/2752/about-forums Sun, 01 Apr 2012 22:15:37 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 2752@/talks/discussions Thread Title: Nails for Stiletto TB15?

Hammeruser: I’ve saved up for months and just got my Stiletto TB15SS titanium hammer. At $220 they’re pricey but with the replaceable stainless steel face, ultra light weight handle, and excellent balance I can see myself using this for many years. I’ve had it 3 days now and it’s just wonderful. Does anyone have any suggestions for a good framing nail to use with this hammer?

image

Hammergeek: You say it’s wonderful but I don’t see any photos of nails you’ve driven. I think it’s just overpriced crap.

Hammerfiend: You know, Ken Rockbuster said the Stiletto is really overpriced and he wouldn’t have one. For $14 you can get a Tekton rubber mallet set. It’s not any good for driving nails, but it is great for body work on your car. That’s what Ken recommends.

image

MC: If you really were a professional, you’d be using a Graintex SH 1660 sledgehammer. It’s got a 36 inch handle and 20 lb head and can tear through walls in a heartbeat. Your Stiletto can’t touch this.

image

Hammeruser: I do framing work and carpentry, so tearing through walls really doesn’t apply to my work.

M.C.: That’s because you have absolutely no skills. A good hammer user can drive nails with a 20 pound sledghammer with no problem. You’re one of those rich doctors, aren’t you, that thinks upgrading your hammer is going to make you a better carpenter?
