I need to convert my G7 4K footage to either FHD MP4 or MOV but I'm having an issue. The first is that my 24 fps footage is being converted to 30 fps and I see no way to stop that. Is this the way it is or a bug anyone else notice it? The other issue is I converted to both MP4 and MOV and the MOV file seems to be identical to the UHD file visually but the MP4 version definitely has increased contrast. Can anyone explain this? Looking for any solution or suggestions. I'm using Resolve 12 to edit which on my system has a very difficult time with the UHD files which is why I need to convert.

Do I have to format scandisk 64gb 95mb on my gh2 with LPowell hack? https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/7375/do-i-have-to-format-scandisk-64gb-95mb-on-my-gh2-with-lpowell-hack- Thu, 27 Jun 2013 13:07:34 +0000 gh2owner 7375@/talks/discussions Hey guys, I'm a newbie here and for a while I've been trying to search if you have to format the 64gb 95mb scandisk once its inside the gh2 camera. I bought my camera used with the LPowell hack (seller said it has the100 mbs) and I MUST have this type of scandisk- so I just got it now.

My question is....and please excuse me for I am new to this all- once I put the scandisk into the camera, is there anything I have to do? Do I have to format it? Are there any settings I must do first before I can record?

Any input is appreciated--I feel I cant start until I know what to do first. Thank you guys.

The stage of DSLR cameras in the future https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6662/the-stage-of-dslr-cameras-in-the-future Wed, 10 Apr 2013 16:13:48 +0000 Manu4Vendetta 6662@/talks/discussions This thread isnt for talk or praise the quality of the Pocket Camera that are already well known and there are two thread of it, its for analyze and maybe a little speculate because I havent a crystal ball and dont know anyone who works within the industry film or camera makers to speak firmly of things to come.

Some time ago I've been thinking that one day they will see cameras with dreamy benefits available to our pockets and BMC has taken the first big step.

After impact caused by Pocket Camera at NAB seems as if all DSLR cameras literally stay in the past, the film market and videographic intermediate, semi-pro and professional low budget now has a gear of very low cost, then I wonder how that argument would have for example someone who wants today to buy a 5D MKIII about U$3000 for videos and films when for a third of the cost you have a body that offers RAW with 13 EVF of DR. Who less would suffer possibly are cameras under US$1,000 where the user amateur looking a camera for photo and with video to record the dog pacing on the garden, the family eating BBQ, an afternoon at the beach or something without more pretense, but I dont know if that market segment is sufficient for these traditional manufacturers.

I assume that traditional manufacturers must have a headache because they did not expect this movement. Anybody what will buy a camera for video a film low cost will prefer a DSLR digital -regardless the record format- to a camera to record in RAW?

BMC's movement beneficent the market because it will be forced to Sony, Panasonic, Canon and Nikon to compete with similar or better gear features, that or leave the market for inematographers and filmakers low budget because they havent argument to compete equal now.

PS, sorry for my poor english.

SD Formatter vs In-Camera Formatting https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6320/sd-formatter-vs-in-camera-formatting Mon, 04 Mar 2013 11:20:27 +0000 matt_gh2 6320@/talks/discussions Is formatting your SD cards in SD Formatter important, or are we just fine formatting in-camera? I use Sandisk 64 GB 95 Mbps with my GH2 and have recently started seeing a lost.dir folder appear. Not sure if this has to do with formatting or not.

So is SD formatter needed and if so which version/where to download?

Thanks

Adapting Mamiya 645 to GH2 (flange distance) https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/4899/adapting-mamiya-645-to-gh2-flange-distance Mon, 15 Oct 2012 10:40:33 +0000 kazuo 4899@/talks/discussions Hi everyone,

I've been looking at medium format lenses for sometime now, and have half a mind to slap them onto my GH2. I have seen footage produced by such lenses on an unhacked GH2, and even then, the images are quite out of this world.

I managed to track down an adaptor in the market that interfaces 645 mount to m4/3, but it's exorbitant. A cheaper alternative would be to use a 645 to EOS or Nikon adaptor, and then adapt a second time from EOS or Nikon to m4/3.

Does anyone know if this workaround will cause me to lose focus to infinity? In the first place, will the flange distance be right?

Cheers

Formatting external 1TB Drive - NTFS or ExFAT? https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/3520/formatting-external-1tb-drive-ntfs-or-exfat Sat, 09 Jun 2012 05:10:25 +0000 pundit 3520@/talks/discussions I have just purchased an external 2.5" 1TB USB 3.0 hard drive. The drive will primarily be used to backup GH2 MTS files from SD cards while on location. It will be connected to a Win7 laptop but also needs to connect to a Win XP PC. (I have installed the Microsoft ExFAT driver)

I would also like to be able to connect the drive via USB to my Dune Smart D1 media player. Currently the Dune will not directly read my Sandisk 64g 95mb SD cards which I think maybe a Dune/ExFAT incompatibility issue.

I believe the GH2 formats SD cards to ExFAT.

After searching for a definitive answer I'm still not certain whether to format the hard drive to NTFS or ExFAT. Advice needed - TIA

Card formatting for better reliability https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/685/card-formatting-for-better-reliability Tue, 16 Aug 2011 15:00:35 +0000 allenswrench 685@/talks/discussions it is my first post so be gentle.
Ever since the hack came out, I have mostly been trying the highest bitrate settings and have spent most of my time with 65000 with no card read/write errors. This was really great since I only have 1 card.
I have used my card for other things too (watch movies reformatting to NTFS etc) and have noticed the performance going down....
To cut the long story short, if you need (and I know you do) your card to be as good as new or better, you need to do a THOROUGH format every now and then. Use the CCleaner's Drive Wiper option (takes about 25 minutes on my one and only great 16GB card) and it really will wipe the s**t out of it. Then you just pop it into your GH2 and format to it's heart's desires and it is fast as hell.
CCleaner is free, you just need to go to the "drive wiper" section and format your card.
Hope this helps, as many people have been complaining about the write/read errors and I have never had them. My card is the el cheapo Transcend 16GB 10 class BTW.
QUESTION: Anyone has this card in the 32GB version? Please advise if the performance is the same.
Thanks all and all the best!]]>
Speeding up your SD card (the unexpected way) https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/2134/speeding-up-your-sd-card-the-unexpected-way Sat, 28 Jan 2012 21:42:01 +0000 duartix 2134@/talks/discussions Short story: My SD Card got a speed upgrade from stock and it cost me NOTHING!

Long story:

Bought a Samsung SD 16gb Plus Class 10 (this kind: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-16GB-Class-Extreme-Speed/dp/B00569J5JC/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1327802435&sr=8-5)

First thing I did was format it at 32K and 64K clusters for optimal speed and benchmark it. Speed gains from 64K were marginal, and IIRC the camera didn't like them and defaulted to 32K if I formatted in camera.

Benchmarked the card at almost ~15MB with 16MB files and ~13MB with 8MB files. "Nice!" - I thought, 15MBs is better than Class 10 and since it's 120Mbps it will hold some pretty aggressive patches for a card that costs 20€.

But one day as I was moving FW from my laptop to the card I noticed the transfer speed was way below 10MBs! :( This started a heavy series of benchmarks that were all flawed (basically the problem was that the internal SD reader on the laptop is speed limited) but that had an unexpected development in my struggle to get the benchmark back to the speed I knew it was capable of. In that series of events I used some SSD reasoning "It's flash memory, I should try a Full Format not a Quick Format."

When I returned home and benchmarked the card on the external reader where I originally got almost 15MBs, this is what I got:

I don't know if this will transport to other brands, but I know I'll be doing this every now and then....
