This to[ic is to discuss the upcoming SLR Magic 25mm .95 lens on its own merits.

They are not very populat today, but on m43 they are quite good tele lenses.

My personal favourites:
1) Vivitar Series 1 135mm F2.3
2) Soligor 135mm F2.0
3) Nikon 135mm F2.0 AI
4) Canon FD 135mm F2.0

From all this lenses I had expirience with Vivitar only, and I really like this lense.

E mount fast standard zoom options https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/15778/e-mount-fast-standard-zoom-options Thu, 22 Sep 2016 06:30:02 +0000 joethepro 15778@/talks/discussions The list of fast standard zooms for E mount APS-C Sony is small, but I want to make sure I havent missed any (under $1000).

  • Sony 18-105 F/4 is a good contender, but its limitations are softness at the zoom extremes, and 18 is not very wide. It also has a very poor close focus distance.

  • Zeiss 16-70 F/4 is sharp, and this may be the best option. Unfortunately its max aperture is also F/4.

From my understanding, neither sigma, tamron, nor tokina make E mount fast standard zooms. Have I missed any obvious contenders?

FS: M4/3 Zoom Lens, F/2 16-160mm 10X Parfocal, covers GH4 sensor in 4K mode https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/14569/fs-m43-zoom-lens-f2-16-160mm-10x-parfocal-covers-gh4-sensor-in-4k-mode Fri, 12 Feb 2016 08:37:41 +0000 BrennanK 14569@/talks/discussions image

RARE: 16-160MM CONSTANT F/2 M4/3 CINEMA SPEED LENS IMMACULATE CONDITION

  1. INFINITY FOCUS. The lens is made "parfocal", providing proper infinity focus. Minimum focusing distance with this lens is about 3 to 4 feet.

  2. PRECISION GLASS. Manufactured in Japan, this zoom precision lens is nearly perfect in optical quality. As the photos demonstrate, the glass on this lens is stunning, though it only resolves 1080p.

  3. PARFOCAL. With most zooms you lose focus as you zoom the lens. However, this lens maintains perfect focus throughout the entire zoom range of 16mm to 160mm. (See photos straight off GH2)

  4. ZOOM. The zoom throw on this lens is about 55 degrees, the zoom barrel is tight with no play. It is smooth and a pleasure to shoot with.

  5. VERY FAST. This is a constant F/2 lens which is an exceptional low light performer. An 8 blade aperture produces a nice round bokeh. The declicked aperture for silent, butter smooth operation. Aperture throw is 45 degrees.

  6. NO VIGNETTING. As set up and tested on the BMPCC and the GH4 in 4K in UHD, there is no vignetting anywhere on this lens. This lens covers the 4K image circle on the GH4, but it only really resolves 1080p resolution, you need Canon Cinema lenses to resolve 4K… As you consider, remember that this lens has a CONSTANT aperture of f/2 all the way out to 160mm! Please be aware, the lens has better sharpness at F/5.6... F/2.0 wide open, like any lens, is relatively soft.

If you are interested in purchasing this lens from me, please send me a PM or contact me below... This lens is valued at $500USD, but I am willing to sell it for $400USD and free shipping because I know people like good deals! Besides, I need to buy a Canon XA35 so this lens will no longer be needed by me. You win!

Which CCTV lens for wide angle fisheye use ? https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/7609/which-cctv-lens-for-wide-angle-fisheye-use- Fri, 26 Jul 2013 05:31:26 +0000 TruHype 7609@/talks/discussions Hello everyone,

I've recently started to get interested in C mount (CCTV) lens, for they are fast, wide, and cheap. So I wondered, is there any CCTV lens that I could use as a Fisheye (and get the same effect as the Panasonic 8mm f3.5, but faster) ? Here's a few lens I've found looking on the internet :

  • Rainbow 3.5mm 1.6

  • Tamron 4-12mm 1.2

  • Pentax 6mm 1.2 (+ wide conversion lens x0.45)

Wanted effect :

The GH2 exact m4/3 sensor crop is x1.86.

So I would like to get the same widness as the Panasonic 8mm or any 8mm Fisheye (Samyang, Peleng, Rokinon...) :

Panasonic 8mm : 8 x 1.86 = 14.88mm equivalent (no need for ETC mode)

Rainbow 3.5mm : 3.5 x 1.86 = 6.51 -> 6.51 x 2 = 13mm equivalent

Pentax 6mm : 6 x 1.86 = 11.16 -> 11.6 x 2 = 23.2mm equivalent -> 23.2 x 0.45 = 10.44mm equivalent

x 1.86 : GH2 Sensor Crop

x 2 : ETC tele conversion mode crop (to cover vignetting)

x 0.45 : Wide convversion lens

Does that mean we could use any CCTV c mount lens instead of the Panasonic lens to get the wide fisheye effect ?

A few videos :

Lenses :

C mount lens (1/2") work well on the GH2, but I heard that the CS mount lens (1/3") would still have really heavy vignetting because even with the ETC mode it would not cover entirely the GH2 sensor. Is that true ?

Interesting CS mount lens, but 1/3 inch : http://www.ebay.fr/itm/TAMRON-Manual-Iris-CCTV-Lens-3-0-8mm-1-1-0-ASPHERICAL-C-Mount-3-Mega-Pixel-/261248954560?pt=UK_CCTV&hash=item3cd3a6b0c0

I would use the fisheye to film Skateboarding.

Thank you.

Fast and small zooms https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/13984/fast-and-small-zooms Sun, 25 Oct 2015 16:21:40 +0000 joethepro 13984@/talks/discussions After checking out some 1" and micro 4/3 point and shoots with very compact f/1.8-2.8 zooms, it makes me wonder why it is apparently so hard and expensive to make similar zooms for interchangeable lens cameras. I mean look at the lx100 lens. Its really freaking small and has a wonderful f/1.8-2.8 3x zoom range. Why cant manufacturers make the same lens for $500 or less for their interchangeable lens cameras? It makes no sense to me.

FAST and FURIOUS made in China. 9 minutes Making Of https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/10576/fast-and-furious-made-in-china.-9-minutes-making-of Tue, 10 Jun 2014 07:10:40 +0000 eurocameraman 10576@/talks/discussions STREET OF FURY: I directed, edited and partly shot this 9 minutes Making Of video, a documentary related to a unique and huge project shot in China, near Shanghai, during 4 months. An international team of 300 people was build up around Gary Hymes, the stunt director of famous movie series "Fast and Furious" for shooting a 3D feature film filled up with car and motorcycle chases and crashes.

All team was fantastic and very helpful on the Making Of, with a special thanks to Gary Hymes who is both a great director, a great technician and a very humble person.

This is the first time in China, a project of that kind is produced at such scale. Interesting thing is that all those effort were made for a theme park, not for a theater release.

On a technical point, shots for the making if were done by 3 cameramen (including myself) working with Sony EX1, Canon 5D2, Panasonic AF100 and GH3. We collected more than 20 hours of footage and I had a hard time to choose among all the great stuff we had. Finally, I succeed to compress the best of it into a 9 minutes exciting piece (edited in Premiere CS6). Enjoy!

Fisheye for GH2 : Rokinon 7.5mm f3.5 OR Rokinon 8mm f2.8 with adapter ? https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/8798/fisheye-for-gh2-rokinon-7.5mm-f3.5-or-rokinon-8mm-f2.8-with-adapter- Sun, 17 Nov 2013 04:41:27 +0000 TruHype 8798@/talks/discussions Hello everyone,

I just recently wanted to buy a fisheye lens to filming skateboard videos, but I came across 2 different fisheyes :

  • The Rokinon 7.5mm f3.5 for Micro 4/3

Or

  • The Rokinon 8mm f2.8 for Sony E-mount (NEX-7, NEX-5, NEX-3...) + Adapter

The thing is I know the Rokinon for M4/3 is going to fit directly on my camera (tried it in a shop), but the Rokinon for Sony is much faster, but maybe a little less wide...

Can you please help me choose ?

Thank you.

I thought of Leica R Summilux, Zeiss or Voigtlaender, maybe the Minolta 58mm 1.2?. But as a GH2 user I don't really know what works well on a 5D MKII. Anyone could give me some advice? Does the Metabones adapter work onthe 5D?

What's Inside a Smart Phone that Makes it Fast or Slow? https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5024/whats-inside-a-smart-phone-that-makes-it-fast-or-slow Mon, 29 Oct 2012 04:11:08 +0000 goanna 5024@/talks/discussions I was interested in the Huawei Honor because I hoped its 1.4GHz processor might help me watch videos on its big screen while I travel light. The Honor was on special last week at DSE for $AUD229.00. But when I asked the staff about speed and responsiveness they looked at me blankly. My web searches have been as blank as those pubescent staff's stares.

It turns out the Honor can take a full second for a single app to load.

When I talk to anybody about phones they want to convince me to buy a brand or an OS. I don't want to know which phone or OS has the fastest graphic, but how a phone can be fast. I want to talk CPUs, multi-threading and especially GPUs.

For Sale: Canon FD Prime & Zoom Lens Package w/ ND Filter Set - Complete & Color Matched https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/2148/for-sale-canon-fd-prime-zoom-lens-package-w-nd-filter-set-complete-color-matched Mon, 30 Jan 2012 19:26:12 +0000 cowpunk52 2148@/talks/discussions I'm selling a complete set of Canon FD Prime Lens + 1 constant aperture zoom with a screw-on ND filter set. I spent several months putting this lens set together, making sure all the samples matched as closely as possible with no visible color shift between them. This is a perfect budget manual focus lens package to go with a GH2, AF100, FS100 or NEX camera. The glass is pristine and they all function flawlessly. Each lens is also already geared with zip tie focus gears and are ready for follow-focus attachment and operation.

I just finished shooting a feature film with these lenses on a GH2 with the Quantum 9b settings created by @driftwood and the images came out f-ing amazing. This is a truly beautiful set of very high quality glass. However, I'm purchasing a C300 package now, and these will not be adaptable to that camera... so they must go, sadly. I hand-picked each of these lenses, and love them all. I'm 100% certain you will, too!

The lenses are as follows:

20mm f2.8 FDn

28mm f2 FDn

35mm f2 FDn

50mm f1.4 SSC

85mm f1.8 SSC

135mm f2 FDn

35-105mm f3.5 FDn

The ND filter set includes:

Tiffen 72mm ND 0.6

Tiffen 72mm ND 0.9

Tiffen 72mm ND 1.2

Tiffen 62mm ND 1.2

B+W 62mm ND 1.8

Step-Up Rings: 52-72, 55-72, 52-62, 55-62, 46-52

I'll sell the complete package for $1500, including shipping to CONUS. Payment is made by Paypal as a gift, or purchase payment with fees added. I would prefer not to separate, but if you want just one or two items, send me a PM with an offer.

I also have a Novoflex m4/3 to Canon FD adapter that I will add for an additional $100 if you want it.

Complete package will be shipped in a foam cut-out hard case. Two filter slings are included for the ND set.

Speeding up your SD card (the unexpected way) https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/2134/speeding-up-your-sd-card-the-unexpected-way Sat, 28 Jan 2012 21:42:01 +0000 duartix 2134@/talks/discussions Short story: My SD Card got a speed upgrade from stock and it cost me NOTHING!

Long story:

Bought a Samsung SD 16gb Plus Class 10 (this kind: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-16GB-Class-Extreme-Speed/dp/B00569J5JC/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1327802435&sr=8-5)

First thing I did was format it at 32K and 64K clusters for optimal speed and benchmark it. Speed gains from 64K were marginal, and IIRC the camera didn't like them and defaulted to 32K if I formatted in camera.

Benchmarked the card at almost ~15MB with 16MB files and ~13MB with 8MB files. "Nice!" - I thought, 15MBs is better than Class 10 and since it's 120Mbps it will hold some pretty aggressive patches for a card that costs 20€.

But one day as I was moving FW from my laptop to the card I noticed the transfer speed was way below 10MBs! :( This started a heavy series of benchmarks that were all flawed (basically the problem was that the internal SD reader on the laptop is speed limited) but that had an unexpected development in my struggle to get the benchmark back to the speed I knew it was capable of. In that series of events I used some SSD reasoning "It's flash memory, I should try a Full Format not a Quick Format."

When I returned home and benchmarked the card on the external reader where I originally got almost 15MBs, this is what I got:

I don't know if this will transport to other brands, but I know I'll be doing this every now and then....

So, I am making this topic and add small bits of my expirience

Note! Only F1.4 and faster lenses are discussed here. Exceptions being fastest lenses in their focal ranges (like ultrawide and telephoto).

My own expirience is not very big.
While I like my Samyang 85mm F1.4, I rarely use it wide open.
My tests with various F1.2 and F1.4 50mm lenses showed that I really do not need them and do not like their quality in open state.
Sigma 30mm F1.4 is also not for me. I'll try to test Samyang 35mm F1.4 soon and hope that it'll be more suitable.
I do not own Nokton 25mm F0.95 and do not have any intention to have it. Looking at reviews it is fine lens, but it have many similar things with AF100 - same heavy marketing trying to sold pricey lens to people who do not need it. I can only prise PR department of Cosina sending amazing amount of lenses to bloggers and leading shooters for review. Many companies need to learn from it.]]>
