Searching on Ebay is heavily filtered - you don't get all offers arround the world! https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/10283/searching-on-ebay-is-heavily-filtered-you-dont-get-all-offers-arround-the-world Wed, 30 Apr 2014 04:24:05 +0000 Psyco 10283@/talks/discussions Hello,

as I DIY a lot and also prefere to get my gear without the "premium price tag" of European resellers, I order things very often directly from China via Ebay. Its the general market place in the web, its quite save, a lot of offers arround the world....oh and you get fucked over quite hard:

If you use the search function in Ebay with "world wide" enabled (and who doesn't?) it does not display all offers that match your search words. It filters out many auctions that 100% match your search, especially offers from China!

I had this issue with Olympus pro lenses for arround $2000 from Japan and tiny parts for soldering for $0.50 from China. I typed in some words to search, got 0 hits and the exact item I was looking for was displayed in the "more items related to.." below. I used copy&paste of that auction headline into the search window and again got 0 hits. I clicked on the item, the auction/item was display properly and also stated that this seller has 935 other items for sale. Klicking on "see other items" resulted in 0 items found.

I was using ebay Germany. So I tried ebay USA - some items got now "found" properly, others didn't. Lately I was using ebay Germany but with a proxy server in between - this looked like it showed all results. If ebay doesn't know where you sit, it doesn't know what to filter for.

I contacted ebay support with this issue:

  1. "It can take time to display your auctions properly" - automatic answer, totally off topic.
  2. "You should update your browser and enable cookies. The ebay search function is working fine." - standart reply, off topic.
  3. "Can you please give an example of that problem" - wow! I did.
  4. "We had a look at your problem. This is a KNOWN issue. We are working on it." - What?! Now its a known problem...and not solved..?

But...they solved the problem: Today I was using a proxy server again to get some "single row 2.54mm round pin male headers" for PCB soldering and the proxy-method doesn't work anymore. And it will take them not much time to adjust the "related items..." search function aswell to not display auctions that are not "good" for you.

The only way I know of now to find all items that match a search frase is using Google. But as Google scanns through all listings from time to time, its not up to date and very often you find what you are looking for, but the auction allready ended.

Has anybody any ideas how to get around this censorship?

Strategies to win on ebay https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/3196/strategies-to-win-on-ebay Sat, 12 May 2012 22:40:30 +0000 brianluce 3196@/talks/discussions I buy a lot of stuff on ebay, but 99% is Buy It Now. Now, I found something that is kind of rare and is something I really need. It's open bid. I have little experience in the ebay trenches. As of this post, 36 hours left, 4 bids, minimum still not met. Is it best to dive in now? Jack up the price to separate men from boys? Dive in at last second? Use an auto bid software? I think I used used something call "Esnipe" once upon a time. Advice sought. Help me win!!!

Fisheye for GH2 : Rokinon 7.5mm f3.5 OR Rokinon 8mm f2.8 with adapter ? https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/8798/fisheye-for-gh2-rokinon-7.5mm-f3.5-or-rokinon-8mm-f2.8-with-adapter- Sun, 17 Nov 2013 04:41:27 +0000 TruHype 8798@/talks/discussions Hello everyone,

I just recently wanted to buy a fisheye lens to filming skateboard videos, but I came across 2 different fisheyes :

  • The Rokinon 7.5mm f3.5 for Micro 4/3

Or

  • The Rokinon 8mm f2.8 for Sony E-mount (NEX-7, NEX-5, NEX-3...) + Adapter

The thing is I know the Rokinon for M4/3 is going to fit directly on my camera (tried it in a shop), but the Rokinon for Sony is much faster, but maybe a little less wide...

Can you please help me choose ?

Thank you.

Hacked GH1, GF1, or GF2 for a student filmmaker? https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5694/hacked-gh1-gf1-or-gf2-for-a-student-filmmaker Mon, 07 Jan 2013 10:57:06 +0000 IronFilm 5694@/talks/discussions Based on my research the GH2 offers by far the best bang for your buck in terms of video performance (although maybe the GH3 will take its place latter this year once its price has eased off a little), however for me even the GH2 is just outside my personal budget.

Currently I have an older Nikon DSLR which lacks video, as next month I'm starting a year long film course I have a need for a new camera which does video well (also will be using it for various personal projects too: short films, music videos, web series, etc.. and hopefully even a paying job or two).

It seems to me at first the obvious choice would be the previous model from the GH2 so thus get the GH1 secondhand on eBay, but the GF1 & GF2 also appear to be attractive options?

Made a comparison of what I know so far about GF1/GF2 vs GH1.

Pros:

a) does "comparable" video to the GH1 (I think it is the same? But struggling to find this out for sure)

b) goes for about half the price as the GH1 on eBay, which is a very compelling point for me at the moment (oddly the GF2 & GF1 are both going for about the same price on eBay??)

c) is exactly the same system and brand as the GH series, thus my future acquired knowledge/lenses/accessories will be very easily transferable when I get a GH2 or GH3 (or GH4? haha)

d) smaller bodies, for extra stealth should I wish for it as they're almost nearing compact size

e) the GF1 & GF2 are also hacked (thanks @Vitaliy_Kiselev! I'm amazed by how much you've contributed to this field)

f) the GF2 uses the same spare batteries as the GH2 (although I think the GF2 does not have the same degree of manual control in video as the GF1 has?)

Cons:

a) lacks a view finder

b) lacks an adjustable rear screen

Any extra advice or information about a hacked GH1 vs GF2 vs GF1 would be appreciated, thanks :-)

12V Battery for a Shure PG88 receiver ? https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/4881/12v-battery-for-a-shure-pg88-receiver- Sat, 13 Oct 2012 01:00:44 +0000 010101 4881@/talks/discussions I am trying to find a suitable way to power a Shure Mic system receiver that is made to be powered with a power adapter ( 110 > 12 ). There are many options for all sizes of 12V batteries on eBay. Any specs from these batteries I should pay attention to ? Are there any chances I fry my receiver ?

Here are the links to a sample battery and my receiver :

The battery : http://www.ebay.com/itm/Hot-New-Black-5V-9V-12V-3-in-1-portable-DC-Rechargeable-Li-ion-Battery-Emergency-/321000318189?pt=US_Rechargeable_Batteries&hash=item4abd1c24ed

My receiver : http://www.shure.com/americas/products/wireless-systems/performance-gear-systems/pg88-dual-channel-diversity-receiver

The power adapter that came with the system is indicating :

INPUT : 120/127V~ , 60Hz 150mA Max. OUTPUT : 12 --- 400mA
